Thanks for posting. I’ve added the price and merchant to the title.
Here’s a ‘Help’ link which gives tips and advice on thread posting.

cold. It's not £65.

just kidding.

Was this not £255 recently when Halfords had 15% off Boardmans?

Ah no that was the Boardman Performance Race Hybrid. Not that I can tell the difference but still.

great bike. ideal for a fairly lengthy commute to work. and will last for donkeys years if regularly serviced.

Halfords are really sowing the budget bike market up cant knock these Boardman hybrids and Voodoo MTBs at all.

what no disc brakes

don't forget to say you just joined british cycle club online and waiting for your card to get another 10% off

The cheap ones from a few weeks back were old stock - similar spec level to this, but were 2013 models with limited availability. I got hold of one and I am happy with it. I think they just found a load of old boxes in the back of the warehouse!

I bought one last week at this price less 15%. Very nice bike.

Can anyone recommend a set of mudguards?

Too high end for my taste. Can think of wiser things to spend £400 notes on when you can pick up a bike for £150.

This is nice, good looking bike but the equipment is pretty basic.Altus, FSA tempo, the wheels and the rest are all very entry level. This price is not low.

Try using a £150 bike for a daily commute and see how long it is before you need to change/repair it.

It's going to be hard to get anywhere on a bike that has no pedals. Flippin' cheapskate Halfords!

I did, 10 miles a day there and back for over a year, on a decathlon. Still looks almost new, never had to repair anything.

Nothing wrong with having an expensive bike if that's what you choose to spend your money on. My point being that it is not necessary though. Bit like an expensive car, it's more about image projection than function. Again not a problem but I personally don't need a bike / car to do that. I do it with personality

Can't argue with that.

It just happens that my colleague comes commutes 8.5 miles each way on his £50 bike from gumtree, in last 3 years he had new tyres and some basic service for peanuts in local bike shop.

Hmmm can you still get the %22 discount scheme working ? Is it still live ? (e.g. buy vouchers with a discount and then use British Cycling membership ? or is this a on-line only deal ?)

You can by any non-budget product for many reasons, to show off, because it serves some purpose, because you feel the quality is worth the extra price, etc. To make a sweeping statement that buying a more expensive bike is about willy waving is disingenuous nonsense. Following your logic Tour de France competitors would simply ditch expensive carbon frames (as they serve no purpose other than bragging, right?) and compete on Tesco value mountain bikes.

Part of the demographic of this site are just bargain basement pound-shop penny pinchers who have no concept of quality.

It just happens also, that I managed to get full marks in an exam without learning a thing for it!!!!
See what I mean? Just because your colleague has such a bike by no means makes it the rule. Naturally, a cheap bike often goes wrong. I have experienced this many times.
This isn't a cheap bike. It is entry level. But this isn't a hot deal. It is what it is worth. Not any more, not any less. But the welding on Board man's is by far the best

This appears to be the normal price? Am I missing something?

I'd rather have a Trek 7.3

Besford

This appears to be the normal price? Am I missing something?

exactly. Really don't get it.

My boy wld love this!

How is this a deal? It's normal price for a very average bike. For that sort of money there are plenty of better bikes around.

To be honest it is a cheap bike, with an inflated price and a brand name put on.

I would expect to pay £250-300 for it in reality. It is so basic and everything is bottom line Shimano componentry and they ain't even put a full matching groupset on it. They have cheaped out even further by putting a pants crankset, rubbish bottom bracket and naff brakes on it. I bet the wheel hubs are pretty short life things as well.

Come on people, wise up. for £400 you should expect a full Shimano Sora groupset, a carbon fork or some quite decent finishing kit.

To be clear, I'm not saying it is a crap and useless bike, but this price it is too high for what it is. Why is it even on here.

Edit, 60 second search and for £400 can find a hybrid bike with 10speed full groupset, disc brakes, good looks and a better warranty than this.

Edit 2, £350 for the above now too.

Nope, Boardman welding is no better or worse than anyone else. The welds are covered in body filler to hide them. Look at the bottom bracket and behind the seatstays to see what the welds look like before they are filled in.

The chrome finish on last years CX bikes led to a full recall as the chrome paint wouldn't adhere to the filler and cracked making it look like the frames themselves had cracked. It was purely cosmetic however.

Dont take me too seriously (_;)

Seriously though I would love to see that tour de france where all the competitors have equal tesco value mountain bikes. Same as I would like to see formula 1 where all the cars are equal. True test of skill then.

Right, if you could ever so kindly show us one of these bikes I would be incredibly grateful.
Expecting Sora at £400!? Is the frame made of plastic!? Not realistic at all considering the group set itself would cost significantly more!!! Disc brakes? Possibly. BB5s or 7s are realistic. But other than that, don't speak nonsense. Unless of course you could provide evidence I do agree it is only worth £300 but at £400 you shouldn't really be expecting a high quality bike!

Still trolling I see, MAdam98!

I'll stay out of the **** contest but anyone with links for a £400 road or hybrid with Sora gear or carbon please, do share.

Edit: actually: wiggle.co.uk/mek…ra/

That's all Sora and not vastly more expensive.

Not really a relevant comparison, that is a road bike, not a hybrid.

Can you post said links?

Or just buy a B'twin.
warranty plus after sales care at decathlon beats Halfords. All day any day.

Now 449

ok, just spotted it's 10% off certain Boardman bikes at the moment - They inflated the price of this bike days ago from £385 to £449 (17% price increase) and now they have a 10% OFF "sale" - What a con.
