This is amazing value for a mountain bike of this spec. It's a short travel (130mm rear, 140mm front) trial bike with 650b wheels.
The level of componentry for the price is simply amazing. You're getting a:
  • Rockshox Pike RC 140mm fork,
  • Rockshox Monarch RT shock
  • Sram GX 11 speed 10-42 drivetrain (with an FSA crank)
  • Sram Guide R brakes
  • A very capable four-link suspension design incorporated into a lightweight frame
  • Fairly modern geometry which can be tweaked further

On the negative side - the wheels are narrow and basic, tyres will need changing, a dropper post isn't fitted as standard and the finishing kit looks cheap.

I've been shopping around all winter for a good value universal trial bike for ordinary non-gravity/enduro riding. And even with all the winter sales could not find anything that comes close in value to this bike.

The bike is also available from Halfords. And if you've got access to offers scheme like Wider Wallet or similar that include Halfords, then this can be had for even less.

Great bike, got this myself
Excellent bike for the money. I’ve replaced the wheels, cranks, seatpost and a few other minor things, but saw a couple of stock ones at bike park wales the other day, so most survive with the start spec. 2016 model, but still the latest.
I have the Boardman team FS, I got it for £800 and it's amazing for the price. Specs aren't as great as this one but you do get your moneys worth though

What wheels and crank do you recommend, just in case I want to "upgrade"

I just went for the GX crank. Never been a fan of the FSA cranks, and it’s not easy to source the chainrings (although I think they’re different on the more recently manufactured boardmans). Paid about £90 for crank and BB. For wheels I went for Superstar Electro Alpine Trail. They were £200 - Superstar have big discounts periodically. Good for the money. Aside from that, it’s probably good to know that the Brand X Ascend XL dropper post will fit right down to the collar (the seat tube kink doesn’t get in the way on the L frame). Means the saddle is well out of the way when down.
Might be worth noting that photos are starting to surface for a new FS Pro. Difficult to tell from the photos how the spec will compare, but it's probably not a reason to skip on the 2016 at a good price.

Scratch that, just finding stuff now

I only got mine this week. Apart from the wheels and tyres combo feels very solid. I'm definitely sticking some offset bushings on mine. With a slightly slacker head angle and lower bb it should handle brilliantly.

Can't find anything. Would you mind posting a link or the exact phrase you're getting the results on.

Sorry - I only saw photos a mate sent me. I think they were being discussed in a Facebook group or something. Don’t use social media so I have no idea

Thanks for the link. Not even published yet on the official Boardman website!
Not a revolutionary move, suspension design looks pretty much the same with the same rear triangle. But the new frame is a good step in the right direction. More travel, slacker head tube, boost spacing and metric shock, shorter rear centre...
Personally I don't like the long seat tubes and tall front and top tube. They could have done something about that.
As you say the top model looses out to Pro FS on some fronts. Drivetrain and brakes are lower grade. But you do get a better shock. The new Revelation fork should be fairly good.
I think it maintains it's competitiveness. But for the price I'd like to see a basic dropper post. And there's no details of what the rims are.
