This would be a competitive bike for events such as sportive time trials, but also could shave 10 minutes off your commute time compared to a £250 bone, which could mean an extra 86 days of life that you get to spend with your family, or alternatively the reduced exercise from riding such a fast and light bike could lead to a premature death so really it's a gamble.

No kelloggs cereal reflectors on the spokes either!

I’m guessing the XL is the 57.5 frame size ? Also doesn’t say the weight and how this compares to the Halfords slr 8.9 version

Carbon at that price irrespective of how it compares tbh if it's made in Taiwan good chance Giants made the carbon. 105 is a great group set, got it on me winter steed and summer carbon (defy).

Can't be that bad weight wise.

IMO price is good and upgradeable aswel at that price, thoughts?

Anyone confirm where the carbon is made on these boardmans, I'm presuming if its team boardman it'll be decent carbon.

And there's no hydraulic disc brakes.
Shame
Very good price
Tempting - boardmanbikes.com/gb_…tml

No mediums though for a 5ft 9" chap....

Does it come with rear and front lights? It is a road bike...
8.6kg based on a 56" frame is superb for that price. My mountain bike is a Boardman. The generally make excellent value for money bikes. These will soon be all gone at that price.

Me neither - plus it doesn’t have a mud guard or panniers - awful deal!

No kelloggs cereal reflectors on the spokes either!
I bought this bike in 2017, it came with hydraulic brakes.
Was originally £1000 (it conveniently came out at the same time as most companies cycle to work schemes so was priced accordingly) but cycle republic had a deal (%20 of all boardman) on where it was reduced to £800 give or take.
I then got to spend £200 on parts as the voucher I had was for the max cycle to work amount at the time.

Apparently there never was a limit, rather a company lending more than a £1k had to carry out a credit and affordability check, an overhead most companies didn’t want to adopt, hence the arbitrary £1k limit.

No "limit" now anyway, was scrapped a month ago
Calling all midgets, calling all midgets!
Good deal but don’t trust the boardman carbon frames anymore since my Uncle’s frame dropouts have disintegrated in a few years
What a pity, quite fancy a decent bike. Not sure how big the XL frame would have been (I'm 6'3), possibly too big for me... not that it matters now as all gone.
Only XS and XXS still available

Great deal though - nearly had a new bike

No, I think that's size L. It is pretty terrible on the Cycle Republic site the way they don't clearly relate the sizes with the measurements, a basic task. Here's a link to the sizing on the Boardman site. "8.6 kg Based on a Medium frame".
Why's it so expensive?

That doesn't explain at all

So it's just in the name?

Not a lighter body, higher quality gears, just seems a lot of money for something not *that* much better

That's a very stupid comment.

what makes it so much more expensive and where the money's going, is what I'm basically asking.

And comparing a £250 to a £750 bike isn't the same as comparing a fiesta to a Ferrari. And I didn't say they were the same, I asked why it was more expensive.

I think you're confusing your made up reality with what was actually said.

Is this really a genuine question?

The more expensive the bike the more likely that it will be lighter, stiffer, better quality components and better built.

If you want to compare your bike to a £1k road bike then go to Halfords or any bike shop and see. Ask to take it on a test ride and you may be amazed at the difference and how much easier it is to peddle up a steep incline or keep up a decent speed on the flat.
