I can just see Boardman on The Tour now.... going over the L'Alpe d'Huez with panniers on his bike
good value for £10, they are no ortliebs, but then again they are not £100+ a pair...
I've got the ortliebs for the rear, I don't think the design is all that.

I've reserved these, hoping they will fit ok on the front.
Nice

What front rack do you use?

(As for the Ortlieb design - I have tried lots of other panniers, but the Ortliebs are the only ones that are tough, strong, light, easy to attach and fully waterproof. All the other bags I've tried are compromised in one of those ways)

It's a cheap (£3) halfords one.

I don't doubt the ortliebs will last a lifetime, I have got a couple of their drybags that have been shoved in a canoe every weekend for nearly 10 years and still look great. The annoyance I have is the way they can only be rolled down and clipped to the bag. I've now realised it's my own fault for going cheap with the city rollers, the others don't do this!
typically what is the maximum weight these can take?
Few in stock around South Yorks
Taunton & Bodmin too. Too far for me in South Devon. :-(
Thx, just ordered one, should work great for the commute
looks like all the boardman bags are reduced. Plus water bottles a £1.00

What's the verdict on the bags? & is there any kind of latching mechanism to hold the pannier bag on the rack? Looks like it's just a hook, with no clasp closure...

I don't rate Ortliebs at all I'm afraid. I didn't even get a year out of mine before the seams starting splitting. I will give you the easy to attach bit though.

You get a 5 year guarantee on Ortliebs. They also seem to be THE choice for long distance tourers. Perhaps you just had one from a bad batch? Whatever the case, I'd definitely get in touch with Ortlieb. They'll probably send out some new ones (apparently they have pretty amazing CS - sending bags/parts off to the far reaches of the world when particular things fail for cycle tourers).

Yep you're right, just two hooks at the top and one at the bottom. Pretty tight fitting though (although I've had them less than a week) about the right balance of stiff enough not to budge on rocky terrain but malleable enough to unhook from the rack without sacrificing a finger.

The bag itself is pretty good quality, two side buckles to close the top which rolls down and certainly waterproof.
