I bought the carmona a couple of years ago. I watered it, fed it, and looked after it -- it's now in my garden and it's 7ft tall. (_;)

well by doing that your breathing carbon dioxide on it which plants like

Have a bonsai tree in the office; it's dying. Probably something to do with a lack of water ...

I had one that died. Turns out a lot are outdoor plants. Sub-tropical ones that is. They're harder to grow than you think.

Think all stick to a grass head and Level 1...heard these are like level 50 impossible to keep alive!

They are Bonsai trees. "it didn't grow". That's the idea! They are supposed to be miniature, you clip them to keep them miniature. Bonsai has to be an obsession, you have to nurture them every day. Think of them as your children. Neglect them, even for a short time, and they'll die.

I bought one from B+Q @ xmas for 50p. It had dried green leaves on it through neglect of watering @ HQ. The guy said it would flourish if it was well watered, I didn't think so. Well 7 months later I was right. It didn't flourish! it is firmly dead but it does have a lovely covering of moss all over the soil! ---- Worth 50p for the bonsai pot alone.

I work in Pastoral care in a secondary school. Neglected children in this country don't die very often, they usually act out in some way. Better to compare a Bonsai to a tamagotchi than children; that's another kind of oriental import that's for easy to please Westerners, isn't it?

This explains why my Bonsai was taken away by social services then

Always nice to hear a success story!

You ate a bonsai tree?!

Buyer beware - the last carmonas I bought from Lidl were infested with blackfly. Months of treating the problem and it never went away, the filthy things just kept pooing all over my windowsill and killing off the plant, so they went in the bin.

I've got at least 6 or 7 other Lidl houseplants which are all flourishing though, including a few more bonsai.

Awesome!

Wanted one ever since watching Karate Kid

Looks like a good price. BUT it would that at least 10 years to get it to where you want it to be, much patience is needed and skill. My hobby is in Bonsai trees and your life and soul has to go into it. My oldest is coming up to 30 years now and it now looks like a proper miniature tree, which is of course the name of the game.

Wipe on. Wipe off.

I bought a 70 year old very expensive, gorgeous, bonsai tree about 20 years ago. I followed the instructions on how to look after it and was devestated when It died! They certainly aren't easy to look after. I still feel guilty that I murdered a plant, that was as old as my grandparents!!!!

You can get one in IKEA for £10, nicer looking pot as well

I think people are just having a joke...

I used to work for the first ever UK importer of bonsai trees.
"Indoor" bonsai are notoriously difficult to keep alive and I would recommend you steer clear and start with an outdoor bonsai.

I just use the Father Ted School Of Bonsai. I have so many great bonsai that need no special care at all!

D'ya know, I really really can't stand self-righteous holier-than-thou lacking in humour people. He was having a joke. If you can't take one, you're in the wrong profession. Please keep your faux piety to yourself, eh?
