My local Booths are selling 3 chickens for £10 or 5 for £15!!!! They are a good size as well, say Medium but are much bigger than tescos P.s not live ones obviously!

Voted cold nearest Booths is 100 yards away. At last a country bumpkin deal for us country folk - thanks OP. Boots is a great small supermarket owned and run by the Booth family in the North West.

F20CAW

Good job its just round the corner from me then and not daaawn soufffffffff durhhh

uktottys

I guess the 400 mile round trip might eat in to the savings on the chicken then?

Not arguing with anyone's taste etc, but can anyone actually find it cheaper? I happen to like it (yes I drink it neat), and saved ~£7 on the usual price :) Here's a link to before they'd rebranded to Chase: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mgKp6DOpTTI

VDisillusioned

I don't get what these "premium" vodkas are all about. For centuries the goal of vodka makers was the cleanest and purest flavourless neutral spirit they could make, a difficult thing when you're using pot stills. These days with modern hi-tech reflux stills it's pretty easy to make very clean tasting vodka yet we have all these bogglingly expensive vodkas which are all "flavour" and "character" blah blah blah. We blind taste tested some supermarket vodka, think it was Tesco, and some Russian Standard, everyone thought the supermarket one tasted better. If you want a spirit drink to sip and savour you want something with some real flavour, whisk, cognac, gin etc, if you want vodka then surely you want a smooth clean and pure mix of ethanol and water with an absence of flavour?

ianshona

Unless you drink vodka neat you'd never tell the difference!

pablomalin

It's just a vodka, better go russian standard and you'll be ok.

jamesthevi

I've tried this and it's definitely not the best in the world and definitely not worth £24.00

Really quite unexpectedly nice, I don't think the UK is ready for it..

jonathanbowley

if i only i could...! the in-laws are strict methodists, can't see them purchasing the devil's drink on my behalf!

mrchowdery

Your right i would imagine that it was the 10 Y/o i have nevery seen the 16 in asda. There is a Booths in Ripon, Settle and Ilkly if thats any help. I would ask the in laws to pick you one up though if your not over until christmas (your never rmore than a few miles away from a Booths in preston) they were all gone within a week last time>

mrchowdery

Thanks for the heat. Booths is a really nice place to shop. i wouldn't want to stump up for the weekly shop there mind you. they do seem to have a fairly rapid expansion program for an independent supermarket and they always build eco friendly nicely designed shops. I think Knutsford is there most southern shop and Carlisle there most northern. Their whisky deals are consistently good though especially this time of year, i picked up a couple of the 10 Y/o aberlour recently for about £15 they have the Jura at the same price as the big supermarkets. I was made up that they brought this deal back as i have been nursing last years bottle to its final dregs because i love it so much and didn't think i would see it again at that price, and i am too tight to part with nearly £50 full price. hopefully you all can get hold of some.

jonathanbowley

that was the 10 yr old. booths are doing some great prices on whisky lately, wish they had stores over in west yorkshire. still, travelling to the in-laws in Preston at Christmas, we'll see what we can pick up then eh?

I checked and nearest shop from Edinburgh is 92 miles, and from Birmingham is 60+ miles....so only really available in the mid-north of England? Also how big are the bottles? Can't find any info on their website for it.

Unless Wills and Kate live in the north of England, I doubt it. Booths in Ilkley is awesome. I am gutted for buying them at £1.50 now they've been reduced again cos there's loads in my local store.

scallygally

Isn't booths where wills and kate shop?

Munkster

IMO, Booths is the best supermarket in the north west, Especially the new one in my hometown of Kendal.

For many things yes, but if you're just after the 'beer of the week' deal or clearance creme eggs, its quite reasonable ;)

Its a deal because the standard price in shops for a bottle of Ale is around £1.50. I posted it because many people would not be aware and the last time it was posted on here was almost a year ago. After all, the deals in Tesco at £1.20 were getting very hot - I think that they are cold in comparison to Booths. But no problem. I'm happy for you to pay more if you don't like this deal. Booths is a fairly upmarket supermarket - bit like Waitrose - so people wouldn't necessarily expect cheap beer in there (although someone has realised because I sometimes go in and find that someone has bought all the cheap ones). They vary the beers on offer from week to week. I think its worth mentioning because I'm not aware of any cheaper source. Booths are also in Yorkshire - my local one is in Ripon, North Yorkshire. (Is it the only worthwhile export from over the border? :p )

ciaran4174

Okay, maybe merited, but I repeat my second point, how can it be a hot deal if that's just the price it always is?

Wow, what a bizarre coincidence - I went into a Booths store (near Preston hospital) for the first time ever just yesterday. Prior to this, I didn't even know they existed. I was blown away by their selection of real ales, I'd guess there were more than 100 different ales, 30 foreign imports & 30 ciders/perrys; I ended up walking out with a fairly large basket full =) Prices were pretty good too (a few were discounted to £1/bottle), though tbh it's the massive selection that's the selling point for me. This should get heat simply because CAMRA rox!
