I think you get free at most of the places (tesco/asda) including optical express and even pokcet £4 cashback.. I can't believe someone now days pay for this....

Didnt know that its free at most because I paid £25, so this is good piece of information for people like me.

My local Specsavers has been doing this free for at least a couple of years.

A couple of years ago, I got a free eye test and a pair of glasses included for 10.00, really nice pair too, only just changed them, lasted well

Remember once you have your prescription it's yours and you can take it away and purchase your glasses from anywhere not just the shop that tested you.

I haven't tried Tesco/Asda but I tried Specsavers' £5 and free tests and the one at Boots was more comprehensive in my opinion.

For a £10 extra you can also have a photo of the back of the eyes taken and examined by the optician there and then, which can spot early signs of several eye diseases/issues.

I personally believe the test at Boots is worth the £10. The branch I use is in Luton's Arndale Centre.

Tesco do comprehensive testing for free including the 'photo'

Asda told me it was £15 last week for an eye test, contact lens test and any other test. I did have a free eye test voucher through the post from boots this week though.

My partner is an optician at Boots so I hear quite a bit about it. She hears a lot of stories of people coming through the doors that have had poor experiences elsewhere where the eye tests are free. The words 'cattle market' and 'pushy' come up a lot. Of course it won't be the same everywhere and it's free, so nothing lost. I've always found Boots to be better than Specsavers and Vision Express that I've used in the past.

Regarding the £10 extra for the photo, this is now included as standard in the eye test, but the regular price has gone up to £25 to pay for this. Vouchers like this one are available quite often though. Boots Opticians have also recently had a big internal announcement that their standard offers of BOGOF etc. are changing and should be better for a lot of customers - especially those that have a number of coatings on their lenses which will now be included as standard. Not sure if this has been publicly announced yet.

Cannot believe you paid £25 for an eye test, how about going to google.co.uk and search "Free Eye Test", you would be surprised to see how many vouchers available for free eye test, not trying to be rude, but just informing that doing little bit of research could have saved you £25!!!

Tesco offer free tests plus I found the branded contacts lenses prices are cheaper than other online retailers!

Bigger bonus was I could use my staff discount for a further 10% off

eye test and medical prescription are all free! I wouldn't go paying for this as it must be a con

good find. eye tests are not free unless you are using display screen equipment and then you can get a voucher for a free test and money off your glasses. and some benefits will alow you to receive free tests. heat added

I didn't pay £15. I prefer Boots not Asda.
