Get a diamond cutting disc. They are so so much better than the abrasive ones, and not much more expensive. I’ve just learnt this lesson for brick cutting.
Don’t bother buying them in bulk unless you use them a lot. How many people know that abrasive discs have an expiry date?

We use 2.5mm cutting disc on stainless steel in our workshop. Just let the disc cut and you won’t have a problem. Not for heavy handed ppl lol

I do, used to work in a metal testing company and we had a decent healthy and safety management in place

I only cut mild steel and aluminium, but always use 1mm discs. Much quicker, more accurate and less wastage.

Would it be okay to cut big nails? I need to replace some split fence boards.

It would probably do the job. I use 1mm discs for cutting steel, they cut much quicker and makes it an easier job:

amazon.co.uk/Ultra-thin-stainless-steel-cuttings/dp/B00LX4J6KW/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?dchild=1&keywords=1mm+cutting+discs+115mm&qid=1592399858&sprefix=1mm+cutti&sr=8-4

These ones vary in price, the lowest the go is about £3.50. I use dewalt ones now, which are a tenner for ten but last longer doing lots of steel bar and angle iron cuts. The Amazon ones will be fine for what you need. The thicker the disc, the more it moves about before it cuts in, and the more material it has to grind away.

Always wear safety glasses, hot metal bits flying into your eyes is no fun.
