Bosch Rotak 36 Lawnmower reduced to £89 at B&Q (reduced from £129)

Found 17th Apr 2011Made hot 17th Apr 2011
We're currently looking for a new lawnmower, and noticed this in our local B&Q (Stafford) reduced from £129, but the deal is also available online for reserve & collect

The price is cheaper than amazon (£119), and the closest price on ebay was for a grade 2 version.

The Amazon.co.uk reviews are favourable, with the only complaints being assembly of the grassbox, and a couple that have died within 2 years, but this offer includes a supplied 2 year warranty.

Quidco also available i believe.

Specs from the B&Q website:

Suitable For: Lawns up to 180 sq. m
Weight (kg): 10.5
Collection Capacity (L): 40
Brand: Bosch
Colour: Black, Green
Collection (Y/N): Yes
Warranty/guarantee: Guarantee
Warranty/guarantee details: 2 years
Model No.: Rotak 36
Cutting Width (cm): 36
Electric/Petrol: Electric
Material: Plastic & Metal
Engine/Motor Power(cc,watts,volts): 1400w
Category: Rotary Mowers

First deal I've ever posted, and more than happy to find out I can get this cheaper elsewhere, but I certainly think it's a bargain.

edit: looks like it's only reserve & collect online

edit: Amazon price has increased to £119

These are really good mowers, much superior to the flymo I had before.

Seriously amaziing lawnmower, bin your useless flymo's now!!!

I've got a flymo and yes, they are useless. I'm not sure I want to spend £89 just to cut the grass though.

Top job. Was looking at these last summer - heat for you

great reviews on amazon

Just bought one from local B&Q.... Very good mower for the price!!! Was about to buy the Rotak 34 for same money!!!!

very good mowers. shame my grass is patchy and terrible condition. need to work on it this summer

Got one of these last year. Works well.

It 'hoovers' up the grass quite well as it cuts it, so you have less clearing up to do after.

great deal, thanks

been looking for a mower last few days and was going to buy the Bosch Rotak 34 from Amazon today.

gone for this now

bought one of these 4 years ago its been faultless. before this i had bought flymo's and own brands every year and were useless.

Hope this deal lasts a week, I'm out of the country until Friday

Just so that you all know, this is last years model hence why they are discounting it.

This years range come branded as 'Ergoflex' and have a more ergonomic handle.

Still a good mower at this price, don't get me wrong, but for an extra £10 you can get this years model from some online retailers.

Just looked at manufacture date on mine .. March 2011

on amazon the ergoflex 34 model

Well I've got the Rotak 34 version of this but the ergoflex version looks like it'll be nicer to use. I find mine uncomfortable but as it makes such short work of the grass I can live with it.

Sicoe: this one from b and q. It cut is wider.

The ergo flex is jut better handles.

Bought one from local b and q. Stunning performance.

The basket is a pain to line up and put together though.

If you've got relatives over60 they could get you an extra 10% off on Wednesdays with the B&Q Diamond card.

These do cut the grass nicely. I've had one 2 years. But the grass box is poorly designed and requires more shaking than it ought, in order to empty. On my old mower, I just tipped the box over and everything came out. And the handle to adjust cutting length needs a bit of wrestling with in order to move.

It doesn't come with anything to wind the cable round. Incredibly that is an optional extra (how very BMW of them!). Worth getting because it saves you having to wind the cable off but why couldn't they just give you that.

I'm not unhappy with mine, I'm satisfied with the results, but I probably wouldn't buy one again because of these little annoyances.

The price is cheaper than amazon (£110)

That's not true. It's cheaper at amazon, £87.30 delivered. Plus Amazon have the updated Ergoflex model with the more comfortable handles for £89.99, the same price as B&Q is selling the older model.

Voted cold. No idea how this got to 407 degrees, ppl don't bother to do any research before voting

I have one , used it today , easy to use , light and good even cut , 100 times better than fly-mo !

The grass is compressed inside the grass box, thats why it needs shaking out.

Not an issue with mine..

Not a big issue, I wrap mine around the handle.

Is a 2cm difference in the cut width an epic fail these days? But, yes, it is the smaller model.

Just checked the Amazon price again to be sure, and it's actually gone up to £119!

Yep, the whole post was full of epic fail.

Why not post a wrong priced reply for the Rotak 40, after all it's only 4cm difference

Picked one of these uP at the weekend, box is small enough to fit in a car boot easily. If the handles are the only real difference then I can live with it being last year's model. Going to give it a try this week.

LoL wut?!

Thank you for taking the time to make a response to every point I made, as though each and every one of them needed rebutting. I was simply stating my experience.

I don't agree with you about the grass box. What you say sounds like a claim you might read in the manual. In real life the reason the grass doesn't come out is because the opening is poorly shaped. The last bit of grass that doesn't come out because it is stuck behind a lip is nothing to do with compression. And yes I realise you can wind the cable round the handle. But Bosch are happy to sell you a quick release handle at extra cost - it's just a bit of plastic, and I can't see why they don't throw it in with the mower. I'm glad you don't have a problem with your height adjusting handle, our collective experience seems to inform the audience that these mowers 'can' have a problem with the height adjustment mechanism.

As I said I am pleased with the basic functionality of this mower but some of the design features are annoying. What is to 'wut' about that?

This is a thread about a lawnmower. It's good that you are enthusiastic but I'm not entirely sure the attitude you have taken in several posts, in a thread about a lawn-mower, necessarily paints you in a good light. Look above your head, tell me, what can you see?

Bosch Rotak 40 @ Argos outlet for £100 or there abouts

Petrol FTW!.... although only if you have a sizable lawn!

Man in local store said they will be offering 15 percent discount, on ALL products, on spend of £50 upwards over Easter weekend.

But will it be off this price or the original price? I need one of these as my garden is out of control. Alos, I am absolutely clueless when it comes to lawnmowers etc... from what I gather from everyone on here this is a good one to go for right?

Picked up the rotak 34 from Argos a few weeks ago, to replace our broken petrol

These things are brilliant. Much much better than our previous flymos.

You've got one idiot arguing against a different price for a different product on Amazon and another trying to put everyone else off buying this fantastic mower at a great price over a few 'little annoyances'

LoL Wut = You are a very hard person to please. The best electric Lawnmower on the market and you wouldn't buy one again because of a few 'little annoyances'

What would happen if you came across a bad Lawnmower? A Nuclear Strike??

Thanks for taking the time to my reply but you needn't have bothered basically....

I think the Bosch marketing department, if they saw this, would be ABSOLUTELY DELIGHTED with your strenuous efforts to promote their goods. A man who loves their mowers SO MUCH, he will NOT COUNTENANCE so much as a 4 out of 5 from a user of 2 years experience who basically likes the product but notes a couple of minor flaws.

By the way, do you talk to people in real life like this? Or do you get big and nasty when you are sitting at your computer desk?

I have the Rotak 40, i think that it has a slightly more powerful motor. It is very very good and I would recommend. Does stripes, cuts the grass with ease and is quite light.

Top mower.

I'm confused I need a lawnmower, is this a good deal or not?! The comments have confused me!!
