I got one of these a couple of weeks ago from costa coffee for £30 ;-)

Bosch - of course - where did you get the idea about Braun?

Hi, I am a regular coffee drinker, but always use fresh ground coffee. Can someone please explain the benefits of these relatively expensive machines and why the "capsules" are so dear compared to the relatively low cost of fresh coffee.

Much appreciated. Maybe I have not yet woken up to the smell of "real" coffee.

Not cold, rather a bit warm... as its hit & mostly miss if Costa send you a code after registering card!

Convenience! I love my tassimo :-)

I think of the Tassimo as my coffee machine of choice for the work week as it is less time consuming than using a cafetiere or filter machine.

I don't have the time or energy to make 'real' coffee, these are convenient for me and a lot tastier than instant.

Not gteed , not even likely

I love my coffee but knew if I bought one of these I wouldn't use it due to pod prices so I decided to go for 'aeropress' as its quick and convenient and slso doesnt clutter my tiny kitchen. It cost me 24quid from amazon and i cant recommend it enough

Just an alternative for people to look at btw

What machine do you use to process your freshly ground coffee? Do you ground it yourself?

Not at my tesco

I was exactly the same, i would call myself a bit of a coffee connoisseur and when my wife got me one for my birthday i was a little disappointed, but i tell you what its absolutely fantastic. If you just drink ground coffee then it doesnt offer much to you as there are only a couple of varieties and they are expensive, however what i use mine for and i think its worth its weight in gold for is the Lattes's and cappuccinos, they are so easy to make and taste just like shop bought.

Also got from Costa and it is crap compared with coffee made by my old DeLonghi ESAM. And bloody expensive coffee- 30p a cup when DeLonghi made cup- 5p. After using all discs it is going to the recycling centre...

I'd agree, for coffee as in straight fresh coffee it's not as good. Latte, cappuccino ect is where this machine is a winner.

Good deal! Thanks OP.

Not now they don't sold this off to Bosch

Great machine had one for a good few years, made great coffee

Downsides - price per cup, expensive - lots of waste (tdiscs in landfill), suddenly discontinuing lines (decaf) usually slim selection in supermarkets

When it died we went to bean to cup

For taste you cannot beat fresh ground coffee, end of. The only reason you would buy one of these is because you are lazy, and can't be bothered with the minimal effort of making a good proper cup of coffee.

For these reasons I bought one a few months back.

Wrong and wrong. The machine you get from Costa is the T20, not the T40, and the offer isn't on at the moment AFAIK. Also, Costa don't give you £20 to spend, everyone who registers a machine on the tassimo website gets the discount.

The latest Costa offer was for the T40, although you are correct in saying the Costa offer is not on at the moment and it was a lottery on whether you got sent a voucher.

Can you get a coffee duck for the Tassimo machines? It's a godsend for the Senseo being able to use a duck to use normal ground coffee instead.

Bit of clarification: the most recent Costa offer was for a T40 for £30. On top of that, you get £20 credit in the Tassimo web shop when you register, as usual.

As for the Costa offer, last time it ran you pretty much had to already have a registered Costa card and they sent out emails in some order which allowed you to request one of a limited number of discount codes.

Anyway, hot! Good price!

Anyone have a costa link??

there isnt one...the offer isnt on anymore

£49 in my local.

I have the T20, its honestly one of the best things ive ever bought. Yeah the pods can work out quite expensive if you drink it daily. but i maybe have 2-3 over the weeked so its perfect for me.

HOT!!

I've never tasted or seen a tassimo in action but I used to have a cheap but nice coffee machine which makescoffee from pods and/or ground coffee. Really liked it but the machine died on me recently.

I was wondering apart from convenience, do these pods make "hot" and tastier coffee than real ground coffee machines or the aeropress/plunger machines?

I've not seen one, I agree one for the Tassimo would be great!

Tassimo machines are very good BUT if you don't like the taste of UHT milk then I recommend you give it a miss. I bought a Tassimo T65 from Curry's, registered my product with Tassimo and received a £20 evoucher. I spent over £35 on the website and received free delivery. Additionally, 3 months later I received a £10 evoucher which again I used for a spend of £35. There is more variety to chose from from the site which is great. I'm a very fussy coffee drinker, from Ground to Cafetierre (incorrectly spelt) and I imagine over time I'll probably sell it. But currently, it's a novelty and it makes quick frothy drinks.

I think you'll find that they recently offers the T40 as part of their promotion (not the T20, which they used to offer). Ok ok, you're right about the £20.... however whats the difference.... you still get £20 free! Some people really just have to be pedantic.

Got the T40 at home in a box... not even opened yet from Costa ....

Tempted to register it to get the £20 free coffee and then flog the machine

Have the T20 from the previous offer - only use it on the weekends due to time etc at home, but makes an awesome drink and unlike other machines the drink is properly hot and doesnt take a lot of messing to get a decent drink.

The costa latte is more then enough reason for me to own one!

I'd say give the milk pod discs a miss, not the machine. They're hit and miss, the milk pods, too. The Costa Latte was a fave of mine at the start, but now it's the Americano I prefer. There is a Jacobs Latte Macchiato 'less sweet' version which I've yet to try, but might prove nicer than the sweetened UHT options.

The main selling point for me of Tassimo over Nespresso (as that was the competition to my mind) was the mix of drinks available. Tassimo is a hot drinks machine, not purely a pod coffee machine. Teas and hot chocolate can also be made through the machine and they're pretty good. The Milka chocs in particular.

As for t-discs in land fill, no... no no no. Don't do that. There's a company called Terracycle that operate recycling clubs. They have one called the Tassimo Brigade - it's almost impossible to get in on it yourself, but there are charities that have accounts and they'll send you labels for you to ship your Tassimo discs off to, free post. You get rid of your t-discs responsibly and the charity get a small slice as a fund raiser. Everyone's a winner! Post a message onto the Terracycle UK Facebook page and you'll soon have a charity sending you a label. https://www.facebook.com/TerraCycleUK?fref=ts

Since we started doing that we've already sent off about four box loads from our office!
