Is 1400rpm the best spin these days?

No but in decent brands it seems to be an arm and a leg more for 1600 spin :-(
How does the performance of this compare to the much cheaper Bush posted on hotukdeals previously?

argos.co.uk/pro…699

Also, does anyone know more about the 2 year guarantee from Bosch. Will I have hassle or extra costs (e.g. parts or labour?)

I'm hoping someone can convince me to go with this Bosch
Excellent find, have some heat!!!

Well I think a lot of the "great" domestic appliance brands have been bought out and closed down with the names still used for "badge engineering". So I maybe whoever told you may have just muddled Bosch up with one of those.

As to Bosch machines, well we have a Bosch machine that, I think, is about ten years old. It's been pretty solid, except the outlet pump failed at one year, exactly to the day, then again within a week of the second anniversary. The door handle broke, but was cheaply fixed with a pattern part. And then this year it started pouring water onto the floor when pumping out. So I thought maybe it was time for a change, particularly as a couple of "features" of the Bosch have endlessly annoyed me - it always defaults to 60C on the cottons wash, you can't select full 1400 spin on quick wash etc. So I started looking at Korean machines, well LG and Samsung, because they seem to be popular. After reading countless reviews, and several user manuals, I came to the conclusion that they were likely to be even more irritating than the Bosch. eg. I think one of the LGs, I was looking at, has no spin only function, you can only set rinse and spin - wtf? As it turned out our Bosch just needed a perished hose replaced, I cut a piece down I found in the shed, and we're back using it for the time being. When it does finally succumb, I think I will go back to a mid-range Bosch, or maybe a Siemens which are effectively the same machines, but often have free five year warranties.

when you add to the basket, if you then click on basket you have options to tick free connection and free recycling.

wouldn't have thought it would be that much hassle to cancel with currys
bearing failures common in bosch exxcel machines, whether these newer models are better remains to be seen.
Great machine I think this is the same one I've got, similar deal from Currys the 15 min wash is great only annoying thing is the constant bleeping when cycle has finished

It's 11 since I bought mine, and all that has happened is the spin speeds are slower! :-(

I have heard that is meant to relate to where it is made, e.g supposed better Bosch machines made in Germany versus more budget machines made in Poland etc., indicated by a certain handle design.

That's what I first thought, but if you look at the figures on ao.com, some 1400 spins leave clothes drier than some 1600 spins!

That's manufacturers for you... remember VW's do 70mpg and 0 to 60 in 7 seconds or whatever figure they want you to believe that week! ;-)

Raw power is more convincing
Sealed drums - £10 bearing goes after 3 years (common problem) = scrapheap, or buy a new drum + labour

Or hack a fix by cutting the drum in half, changing the £10 bearing, drilling pilot holes and sealing with special adhesive, then tighten up with bolts.

Drum = £230+
Labour = £120+ easily

These are not the Bosch of days gone.

Just buy cheap, gone are the days when you would invest in a brand and have it last.
Edited by: "scooby555" 11th Sep 2017
agree with this. Last Bosch lasted 2yr 1 month. Bearings gone, prospective £350 to fix or get a new machine. At the same time bought a Bosch fridge freezer which finds it hard to keep the doors shut. Utter shit. I would go for a super cheap one or a "reputable" one with the longest warranty on it, as they all seem to break.
Got myself lg few months ago and will never look back.
10 years is for motor and they might as well give 20 as motors die very rare. I would suggest to try to find a deal with 5 year warranty if you are after big washing machine for a large family

From my (not very) extensive research, from what I understand the machines sub £300-ish are made in a different country to the more expensive ones, thus the quality of the wiring or some gubbins inside is quite different. I can't remember where I read that.

Except for Miele I absolutely agree.
I've got the same model. Best washing machine I've ever had. Very quiet and good power consumption. If your after a new one this is a bargain at this price and you won't regret it.
