I bought one of these a few months back. I didn't really research them but the sound quality is really good considering how little space it takes up. Only down side is the lack of remote to turn it off. It usually defaults to mute so if you have your remote's to switch your TV etc on then you still have to get up to turn this on. Other than than, I'm really happy with ours. It cost £20 more than this too.
Bose sound quality is always phenominal
Great set of speakers had mine for about 6months now.
no highs no lows must be bose!
My sound system just broke on me after 10 years of use and am in the market for a new one. I listen to a lot of Pink Floyd, The Who , Rolling stones and Led Zeppelin but I also dablle in Drum & Bass occasionally ,I also watch a lot of films and play games. Do you guys recommend this based on what I use it for?

EDIT : This is all on my PC

Thats kinda what I thought, sadly my old sound system died at the wrong time and my budget isn't as big as I would have liked. I have always despised BOSE but thought I may give them a chance. Just anything to save me from my crappy TV speakers.

yeah it gets knocked for a reason, its crap... but feel free to buy it if you dont mind 40% of the audible spectrum missing from your music,
wow .. good price . bought this from Comet for £249 Good find op . cheers
Got this a few months ago, great for games and movies
I had these Bose Companion speakers and took them back after a week. They sound good but not worth the price with some problems that I experienced. The problems I found:

- They are not magnetically shielded (which is surprising for speakers that cost this much) so I had that annoying noise with my phone nearby.

- An annoying hissing noise when the speakers were on.

Took them back and sought something that could match/beat the sound quality for a lower price.

Found the awesome reviews for Acoustic Energy Aego M 2.1 speaker system. They are much cheaper, yet I firmly believe that the sound quality of these speakers are better than the Companion 3's. Have a search - people have compared the companion 3 and the Aego M's to find that the Aego M's are better!

For anyone looking at 2.1 speakers for their PC and don't want to spend quite as much..I can recommend Microlabs FC330 Model 2.1
They sound fantastic for 40 quid and someone reviewed them on Amazon as sounding as good as Bose..can't comment on that as I have never heard a Bose 2.1 setup !!

In my opinion the Samson resolv a6 is by far better than the bose if you intend to use if for music. The bose are too expensive for what they offer.

Or Yamaha HS50M, KRK RP5 RoKit G2 and several others that are cheaper and better.
Great system. I've had mine connected to my TV for about 3/4 years now. I'd have a 5.1 but my living room is too small at the moment. Great clear sound. Can really kick out some power too but still retain the quality
Bose, a pioneer of style over substance that Monster successfully copied years later

Bose targeted the middle-aged well off men and Monster targeted their kids/young spending too much on luxuries

It is strange that Bose and Monster are very vague (normally none) regarding technical specifications for audio equipment, probably so you can't check you have just been ripped off on buying average stuff

Creative Gigaworks T3 are better value at £140 or Altec Lansing

Have to totally agree with those two problems, had to move my home phone on the desk away from the speakers to reduce the hissing interferance noise, also there is an odd pulsating noise if you move the volume control near to the speakers on the desk as well, and never leave a mobile phone close to them (within 1.5m)..... Haggled on mine in Currys when buying some other bits, not worth the £200 I paid.
Bose......overpriced rubbish!!!

You have to admire Bose marketing, it works, people buy it thinking it's top end gear, making a statement that they spend big on designer audio. My £35 Intempo IPod dock sounds equally as good as my mates £200 Bose dock, but he won't accept it.
bose do some cracking stuff, but also so not so good, do your research guys, just because its bose, doesnt always make it top notch,
they decent speakers, but dont expect them to blow your mind.

I can confirm after having both the Companion 3's and the Aego M's, the Aego M's are better built and better sounding than the Companion 3's. BUY THE AEGO'S!
Had mine for a while and they are great! Having owned more expensive systems right down to the cheapest stuff, I have to say these are the best. Never had any issues with phones or anything else. Excellent sound that I have not heard else where therefore brilliant speakers. Couldn't recommend anything better and a great price so HOT from me!

Bose markerting does a great job, yes they are overpriced, though they are not ****. If you cannot tell the difference between a £35 dock and a Bose £200 dock, i think audiophile gear is lost on you.

Sorry but that is like comparing iPhone standard headphones v 200 pound Bose, the difference is actually really large just not worth the asking £200. More like £100-£130

As pc speakers go for what is really a 2.1 what is more expansive ? Companion 5?

I have the 5s myself, though would strongly debate that u can get the same sound for quite less £££.

yeh sure i always hear this about bose ever since they became a name brand instead of being exclusive to audiophiles. I don't see the problem there are still high end non mainstream brands why so sour?
Researched all over for living room. Bose didn't come out favourably on many reviews compared to many other cheaper names. But when I say cheaper I mean less known outside audiophile territory. Best advice is always to listen to what you like the look of and compare with your own audio. Set your budget and you might be surprised what you can get for your money but don't be blinded by Bose name they are not the best for their sort of money
At this price I recommend Corsair SP2500, they have stellar review pretty much across the board m.techradar.com/rev…iew

I gave heat for this as it is a big saving compared to what you would normally pay but my gripe is the perceived value when better products can be found for cheaper

which dock? I find it hard to believe because I've literally tried 30 docking stations in different shops. Bose came top along with the monster beatbox and sony came closely too.

Also these companion 3s were originally £199 however they bumped the rrp up by £50
Having heard these, they really don't deserve a £200 price tag, more like half that.
the BOSE attacks are so tedious. Did I really just read that a 30 quid dock is better then the SoundDock?!
Aego M are superb they weigh a ton and are rock solid. I personally recommend Audio Engine A2 2.0 for a PC, huge fun
This is a really good price for these speakers. I got mine for £280 just under a year ago. I thought 100 times before buying these and really couldn't justify it for the price. That was even after deducting an £80 voucher I had which made them £200. In the end I decided not to go for them. My Wife got them for me for our wedding anniversary.

The one thing I will say about these is that they look very nice quality and simple design, no cluttered wires.

The sound is good but I find them too bassy. Especially when watching movies at night on my PC. Even after turning the bass down all the way low you still hear it.

Secondly it would be better if you had the option to input by phono cables. These speakers only offer USB connectivity and you have one input on the volume remote via a headphone cable.

The sound is nice but you can probably get much better sound for cheaper.

However like I said before these do definitely look the part and the quality build is good. ideal if your short of space.
Whether these are value for money or not is ultimately down to the purchaser; hi-fi equipment should be auditioned before purchase to ensure it is suitable.
Hi-fi “sound quality” is subjective and depends upon the listeners’ personal taste, music collection and room layout. A £30 IPod speaker dock may sound better than a £200 dock to one person, but not to another.
I have a semi-audiophile setup which cost over £5K a few years ago and, at that time, wouldn’t touch Bose with two barge poles tied together. After buying an iMac, I tried a several brands of 2.1 ‘speaker but settled on the Companion 3 (bought from House of Fraser last year for £190 in a 20% off event) because it is well built, discrete and I loved the sound.
If you like the Bose sound with and want this setup, £200 is a great price. Heat from me.
