Looks great but do you need a Bose system as well?

Looks like you need the Bose Lifestyle system.

OP, can you confirm if you can use this as a standalone with, for example, an iPhone?

Yes you can use it as a standalone speaker connected via 3.5mm AUX connection on the rear of unit. remote control wont work though' although you can still use mute touch sensitive button on the front. You have to control volume on external device.

Hope this helps.

whats a roommate? Does it eat all your food and leave washing up everywhere?

Seriously though , what does it do?

Unless you've got another piece of Bose kit that can transmit to it, it's a speaker.

Good if you've been mugged into the whole Bose ecosystem, otherwise avoid.

Hot considering the price but I'd prefer an AirPlay enabled one instead.

Shame, I got all excited then....

C'MON THE HOOPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is it possible to have this plus Apple's Airtunes via 3.5mm?

List price seems a lot for what is basically an amp speaker. Though £99 is quite good.

Bose are infamous for knocking together the cheapest schlop, making a bunch of wild and crazy claims, then charging a ridiculous price for it.

Hey, I'm a dull prat then! £1000 speakers are better than £100 s … Hey, I'm a dull prat then! £1000 speakers are better than £100 speakers..! Agreed that Bose is style over substance. Still overpriced at £100!

Me too, as I have two sets of Focal JM Lab speakers.. the mains costing will in excess of that

But if money was no object, I would spend up to £60-70k on speakers, as anybody who knows anything knows there isn't much in the way of diminishing returns with speakers

Good price for people who like their BOSE stuff.

I sit on the tube each morning jealous of all the people with their ipods and bose earphones....

If money was no object I've always wanted a pair of these at a mere £55,000http://www.hificorner.co.uk/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/5e06319eda06f020e43594a9c230972d/n/a/nautilus_1.jpg

paired with 4 pairs of these mono bloc power amplifiers that cost a modest £18,900 per mono bloc http://www.stereophile.com/images/archivesart/306chord2.jpg

Am currently using a DPA DAC, by Rob Watts who went on to design the DAC 64 for Chord, the company that produces those amps.

The Nautilus are pretty nice speakers, but I've already decided to get the JM Lab Grande Utopia, since I already have their juniors and I like their accuracy and the inverted dome tweeter is patented so nothing sounds similar. £65k last time I looked.

The Halcro dm58 monoblock amplifier is a "no brainer", as it's arguably the best amplifier in the world. Actually they make more expensive models, but seeing the distortion is so low it is below the self noise of test gear, such that it can't be measured...................... should suffice

I will note that my speakers and amp appear to be larger than your speakers and amp.
