Not sure if a good deal everywhere else seems to be £6 and above. Already have the AA version Maglite for 6 years now with original duracell batteries in, stored in my car for emergencies and occassional use but batteries are still good after all this time it came with 10 year warranty so hopefully this one will too.

Indeed a good price for maglite, I have one of these

but they are very dim indeed, any modern led light, including from poundland (and can get ones that use 1 battery too) outshine these by a long way

For a similar price (well, about £7-10) you can get some very nice AAA/AA torches from DealExtreme, which would have a Cree emitter and adjustable brightness levels. These Cree LEDs blow the incandescent emitters found in Maglites way out of the water both in terms of brightness and efficiency. Of course with DealExtreme you can expect 2 week shipping times and no customer service, but in my experience their torches (I have an Akoray and an Ultrafire) are very well made. Go for an AA torch rather than an AAA-powered one, unless you really need it to be tiny.

Not saying this isn't a good deal, just my recommendations to anyone looking for a good pocketable flashlight.

EDIT:
Here is my current keychain torch: dealextreme.com/det…006 Powered by a standard LED rather than a fancy CREE emitter because it's designed for runtime, not brightness. Waterproof, very well built, plenty of light for everyday tasks. Fenix is considered the best of the Chinese flashlight makers.

This is the 1 battery variety AAA but we are looking at reliability, Quality build, water & shock resistant and pocket size :?

I have this and it is a great little torch

Can't believe Maglite still make these, was a good torch once, but then Escorts and Cortinas were good long ago too. LEDs rule!

Deal Extreme torches are not a patch on maglite or similar make quality like Surefire, Streamlight, Peli, LED Lenser etc. And yes i have used DX before so do know what i am talking about.

That said this Maglite is really poor compared to others mags' better get an LED Lenser or even photon.

Good price, but "dim" product.

Yeah, but don't surefire torches cost £100-200? If I was a lumberjack I would definitely invest in something like that, but unfortunately my lifestyle is rather less manly. It's hard to argue that the DX torches are not good value for money - they are pretty well regarded by the torch fanatics over at Candle Power.
I certainly can't fault my Akoray K106 for the £10 I paid - Q5 emitter, fully adjustable power levels, Ha-III hard anodised, squared threads, double o-rings, glass front element. I would buy another straight away if I lost it.

Agreed. Escort was a good magazine once too.
