I've been looking for one of these for quite a while and have never seen them below £35-£40. I was in B&Q picking up some of the half price shelving when I spotted it so bought one. This was at the Watford store and they had around 20 on display. Very good price for a Dremel if you're looking.

That was the Dremel 300, old model as said, this is the 3000 and never been under £39.99 from Amazon - uk.camelcamelcamel.com/Dre…NZC

They had the engraver too for nine quid there a few weeks back too.

and don't forget your oap discount on Wednesdays and I think I'm right in saying weekends too now. (B&Q)

Would this drill holes through a small aluminium box?

sorry I really know nothing about tools and DIY

If the alli was only a couple of mm, then yes, no probs. (and assuming you have the correct sized drill bit for the job. You can't use just any drill bit, the shank has to be the right size).

tempted, my cheapo b&q one has locked the thread on the collett....

It probably would but so would a drill at a fraction of the cost.

It's not really for drilling - it doesn't have nearly as much torque as a drill. My 3000 handles plastics fine, and the cutting discs can handle pretty much anything, even 3mm steel.

I have an Aldi dremel equivalent.

Not actually sure how I ever did without one - just yesterday I was cutting off some rounded bolts to save myself £100's from a garage.

If you do any type of DIY and don't have a dremel - get one.

hot.

I wonder if Amazon will price match as it's a pain to get to my 'local' B&Q!

I hear you. The £10 savings is rendered moot after the time + travel to get to a B&Q for me.

About 20 in stock at the Reading branch this morning.

Does anyone know where this Dremel is made? Is it made in Germany or China because I heard the only reason that the genuine Dremel is better is because it uses quality German components and motors. Also are spare bits expensive to buy and are there generic compatible ones?

Might pick this up but I don't know how easy it is to handle from small scale projects like model making, don't want it vibrating all over the place!

Although I would prefer a large item such as a car or washing machine to be made in Germany... I think that the factories in China that make these will be state of the art. In terms of electronics, the best stuff is nearly all made in china now

Mines make in Mexico!
