Brabantia Touch Bin, 50 Litre, Brilliant Steel - Half Price - £34.94 down from £69.89 at Dunelm Mill (Instore Only)

Found 6th Jul 2009
My girlfriend works at the newcastle branch of Dunelm and has just picked one of these up for her mum. It's not marked up half price but scans through the tills at £34.94! All the Dunelm stores use the same database so this price should apply in ALL DUNELM STORES nationwide.

Details and specs for the bin are below from the Amazon website (where it sells for £89.41)

- Apply slight pressure and the lid opens silently - no more clattering!
- Extra large opening lets you empty a dustpan without spilling!
- Easy to use: bin liners are easy to change and invisible when fitted
- Corrosion resistant
- Robust round body made of high-grade chromium-steel, brushed stainless steel or steel plate with Galfan coating
- Dampened lid hinge
- Extra large opening
- Sturdy hand grips
- Protective plastic base
- Matching 'SmartFix' bin liners 50 litre available
- 10 year guarantee

I know some people may still think this is a lot for a bin, but this is a really good deal for this model, as it sells for a lot more elsewhere.

Please only vote cold if you know where you can find find this cheaper

Please note I can only confirm this price is correct for the Brilliant Steel version, the brushed steel and other colours may not be discounted.

Thanks :o)

Where abouts is the Newcastle Branch? I want to get one... but looking on their website Sunderland is the closest I can find to Newcastle??

Aw no its in Sunderland, can't go to that place.

Has anyone got a phone number for them as our lid has broken and we've only been able to contact their European branch, not their UK branch?

Thanks in advance!

It's the Newcastle-Under-Lyme store in Staffordshire. (near Stoke-on-Trent)

I believe the nearest store to Newcastle-upon-Tyne is Sunderland like you say

Excellent price

Bloody good bin this - great price!

:-( Great bins - great price.

Just a warning though - this isn't a national reduction. They're still going through the tills at full price in our local branch, and the manager says that it's only discontinued models that are being reduced. These were out in a special reduced display (nearly all gone), but all the others were at full price - including the 50 litre brilliant steel touch bins.

Thanks anyway, though. :-(

It's only the Brilliant Steel ones that are £34.94. If you got the manager to scan a Brilliant Steel one through it would come up at £34.94 (even though it is marked up at full price, so most staff will be unaware of the reduction), because all dunelms will scan the same barcode at the same price (as they all share the same database).

Other people have confirmed that they have got one at this price from other stores: -

I'm not disagreeing in any way with what you say - but it was a boxed 50 litre brilliant steel one that I took to the till, and it scanned at full price. I said I understood they were half price, and the manager confirmed that it was only certain models in the reduced price area of the store that were reduced. This model wasn't. Maybe the database isn't shared across all stores?

They did say they'd had people going in there late yesterday too looking for these bins at half price, but not getting them. It was definitely the bin described above (I know these bins pretty well - had them before - great quality) but the till was showing full price. ;-)

I can't understand why this would be happening... All stores share the same database so it should scan up the same as everywhere else! I can only think maybe it could have been old stock using a different barcode ? :? Which store was this at?

I went to my DM in Burton upon Trent. Picked up a Stainless Steel "polished" type. My Mrs started freaking out saying we hadn't got £70 for a bin. I told her not to worry and marched briskly to the till, to my embarrasment it scanned at full price. I did the same thing in Argos last week when I thought I would get a free jug with 12 Brita filters. I will never learn.

It would be helpful if someone who has managed to get one half price could list the barcode so we know what to look for instore,

Note: There were half price Brabantia laundry bins at the tills

no joy for me either, scanned at full price. ah well.

Thanks - Fantastic deal!!

Went into Newtownabbey store (N Ireland) this morning, picked up brilliant steel bin marked at £69 and took it downstairs to the till. It scanned at full price to my disappointment, but the lady on the till said that someone had already bought a bin at £34, and she went upstairs with me to point out a display of discontinued ones that were clearly marked at £34. The discontinued ones are actually nicer!!!. The £69 one that I originally lifted had an all plastic black lid, whereas the only difference with the discontinued ones was the lid was mainly brilliant steel, and in my opinion looks far nicer.

Could not believe my luck - Great deal.

Thanks

Hi I managed to get one of these from the Hull Store

Got last one from Newport store :-) Thanks :-)

Can confirm this was on offer in the Nottingham branch. Managed to snag the last one!

Thanks to the original poster, I printed out your post with the bar code etc and compared it with the one at the store before purchasing.

Came with no box though, did anyone else get a box?

Heat & Rep Added!

Looks like what we have in the office kitchen. The lid squeaks horribly as it tries to open itself when you tap to open (sometimes it takes ages to open as well, and re-tapping doesn't help). Not even two years old. It could be a John Lewis knock-off though.

The Brabantia Bins come with a 10 year guarantee, and from what everyone has said their customer service is excellent.

Someone on here said they rang Brabantia and they were sent out a brand new lid!

True - the lids frequently fail, but they just seem to send out a new one. Puzzling that they don't just improve the basic design to stop them failing.

I have just come back from Dunelm and unfortunately it does not come up at that price at the one in Oldbury. However, it did come up £15 less than the advertised price in there.

Can you clarify which bin you bought as you stated that it was the 50ltr one priced at £69.89. However it was a 30ltr one at that price. The price of the 50ltr one was over £80.

Anyone else had any luck with this offer?

Thanks OP - I got hold of one this morning, I went with the barcode provided and it was pretty straightforward. I think the staff were a little surprised Heat Given - Rep added.

I think you were looking at the brushed steel version, which is £84.99. As stated in the original post, this price only applies to the brilliant steel version.

No problem, glad I could be of help to someone and help someone else get a bargain!

And help you were OP; I got one from a Dulem Mills in Birmingham. They had at least 5, and they were discounted to £34.94 on the box.

I've been waiting to get one of these for some time, so thanks again!
