One of the best things I own.

Use it every day. It's a joy to use.

So how are they getting Dolby without optical? HDMI?
I'm thinking of selling mine so I can pick up the Arctis 9X instead, just because I don't have space to put the base station

The A50s have been amazing though, they sound great, very comfortable even when wearing glasses.
Quidco are giving a quite generous 6.4% cash back as well
Would it be worth waiting for the next gen consoles to come out?
The PS5 is touting some higher end audio capabilities, I'm sure the next xbox would offer something similar.
Would these headsets be able to utilise the new features?

The higher end audio is to enhance existing stereo at the moment and they’ll get to surround later so it’ll work on current tech. It’s similar to how Dolby atoms/windows sonic works on existing headphones. No doubt they’ll be new stuff that is better suited.

Hdmi to tv/av as usual and you could either connect your headphones to that via optical or wait and see what the usb will offer.
Cheers been looking at headsets recently as my turtle beaches broke (well the transmitter/base station stopped working, and you can’t connect the headphones to Xbox without that).
Are these one of the better sets around?
I was also looking at Plantronics Rig 800LX as they come with Dolby Atmos license and are half the price of these.
Please note these are the 3rd gen, not the newest 4th gen.

I’ve not used the rig 800LX but people I know say they are good but the mic is poor.

Cheers yes I’m not fussed about the mic as probably won’t use it anyway, just the sound quality really. Cex have the Astro a50s for £140 if you don’t mind them being used already.

Mic is good but prone to failure, like mine also did.

The Mic is beyond poor. 800LX is a good choice if you want to punish the people you play with. The Astro Mic quality is in a much higher league. A different sport too.
£200 for gaming headset? What does it do that £20 one doesn't? Does it have 0m/s latency? Does it never need charging?

Does seem expensive when there’s a 4th gen version out now.

Not sound like trash? if you went to around £100 you could begin to question limited return for the extra, but £20? what surround sound wirless headset can you get for £20?
Just ordered

I have A50's Gen 3 for PS4.

There used to be a seller on ebay selling them open box / returns. I took the chance and got it for about £120 with ebay discount.

The headset is fantastic. DOnt thin twice about it.

The only downside to them is you can easily not place correctly on the base, and then they dont charge and then one day you go to play and they are dead - happened a couple of times to me.
Can someone tell me if the mic is directional on this.

I have some turtlebeach 420x+ and the mic is so sensitive it picks up every noise in my house, the kids, the Mrs etc.

Also does it have adjustable mic monitoring so I can hear myself in the headset

The jump from a £20 headset to a £200 one is huge. Massively superior build quality and materials, will last longer than your average £20 headset that breaks down or snaps or something stops working after a year or two, unmatched comfort so much nicer if you play long sessions, best audio quality for a dedicated gaming headset.

The jump from a £20 headset to a £70 headset is usually pretty significant too. Maybe the jump from a £70 head to a £200 is less, but "diminishing returns" is pretty common when going from mid-high range to premium range, usually we're talking specific features that attract.

Ultimately though, if you play games alot investing in top quality peripherals makes the experience more enjoyable.
Heard coolshop are not reliable - claim to be in the uk but are not and sending out stuff second hand when advertising it as new.... this just some stuff I found after I googled them .... just here say I was tempted to buy but naaa..
