Might be an idea to edit the title so people don't get the wrong idea.

I wonder when/if anyone will hack these. As long as there is enough space in the flash storage for the software it could be done as the actual hardware in these things are capable of decoding HD content easily and as such would make great DLNA streamers.

I'm happy with this news .
this is a total bargain, generic brands often have nightmare remote controls but for that price, as long as it works, who can really complain.
great item, but thanks rich u just saved me some money, the net connection is what pulled me in.

and for that im out.

Stupid manufacturers overestimating demand for boxes without PVR functionality means anyone who does want one gets it cheaper than it costs to make, no complaints here
Does one have to be a 'member' or something for Makro? Like a cash and carry? I've never used the place....
that's going to get hot
Where's Makro? Never heard of them. I don't think there is one in Plymouth.
Is it a local thing?

I thought that. Might be worth adding into title, yes? Perhaps folks have mates who are either of these above......
great price... shame I not got a Makro card
Got to get heat for using the term 'Holy Moly', oh and the great price too!
No dvb t2 mean no uk freeview hd, dvb t mp4 would be for europe.
bloomin eck - what a bargain!
Not sure if it would be getting this heat if the title said standard freeview box 12 quid, as that is what it is !
So this doesn't do Freeview HD and the Ethernet is useless unless you want to do a firmware upgrade??? Cold if so as the post is very misleading. £12 for a cheap standard Freeview box from Makro sounds about the right price.

I was also concerned by this, but I've found the manual akura.com/ima…pdf which confirms it is T2 capable and carries the Freeview HD logo.

Seems to be the same as STBHDV2010 - a thread about it here.

agreed. this is one of those deals that has a great title, and sounds like a bargain. until you start to dig a little deeper into the finer details, and realise its actually a piece of 5hit for £12.

this aint a good deal

How?

Just because you don't have a John Lewis nearby doesn't make any of their in-store deals cold - does it?

Please excuse my naivety but doesn't it need a satellite connection to get HDTV? There doesn't seem any connectors for in in the user manual...
Might be best to check if you can even get HD in your area first - over 6 months until Freeview HD is available in my area so I think I'll wait.
A year ago freeview HD boxes were about £100 ! Absolute no brainer deal.

No, you don't need a satellite for Freeview. You're confusing it with Freesat.

Having a Makro nearby me STILL makes this deal stone cold.

Just what percentage of the population qualify for Makro membership - 10%, 20% , 30% ??? Probably less than 10%!!!!
