£12+k for something that looks like a 1970s Austin Allegro. You have to admire BMW's marketing.

BMW make......

Badges......which you could stick on any design and up the price by 50%.

No way in Hell the 116 is 50% more of a car than the Focus or the Astra!
But at least it has a BMW badge so everone will know how successful you are.......NOT!

Actually all joking aside; this is a pretty good deal if you're in the market for such a car (the 118d is probably the best of this bunch).

A poor mans i30

BMWs dont have indicators anyway!

Probably a great deal if you're specifically after this car. It's just that you can get a much better car than this for the money.

Original Poster

I think its an optional extra. Maybe you can haggle with them to get the indicators included in the deal?

I'm sorry; but why is this cold?
I know BMW drivers are the butt of all jokes (and the cars are stupidly overpriced), but surely £12k5 for a £17k3 car (including the scrappage discount) is a good deal; even if said car had no business being £17k3 in the first place?

got a bmw 1 series 2 years ago with 6 miles on the clock 118D £12k from cotswold bmw but i do think its still a gud deal for a new bmw.........

You don't need indicators if u drive a beamer...

I voted hot, its a great deal for anyone looking for a one series. People are just voting cold because they have some weird brand hatred for bmw.

Probably all the people who would say "I can buy a Kia for half that price, so why get this when they both do the same thing?"

Good price. Heat and rep. And for those that think a Focus or an Astra is better, I suggest you do your homework before trolling in forums. You look a bit silly.

Not sure buying to a brand that shouts 'I'm a c0ck master' is everyone's cup of tea.

But each to their own.

Just for clarity (in case poor reading resulted in you referring to me) I said it's not 50% better than a Focus or Astra; I didn't say the Astra or Focus are better cars (because they're not).

He must have been.
Whilst there are striking similarities between both cars (like they look identical) there's no comparison......The i30 will be Korean and the 116 will be a decent (albeit overpriced) German car.

I think all the gimps with the negative comments secretly would love a beemer

I wish people would keep their posts objective. I hate Fords but don't go around calling their drivers stupid names (I don't own either a Ford or BMW buy the way).

I have voted hot as to be able to get this sort of discount on a car with emissions that low which equates to low road tax if nothing else.

Yeah I am assuming he was joking, as all the people that post on his link are australian, and thats one country with poor cars:thumbsup:

whats with all the double posts on here tonight?

How does buying a good, practical hatchback shout that? If that's what you think when you see one, then I would suggest it's you who has the issues, not the owner of the car...

Cool; I've no idea why this is so cold.
Yes; BMWs are overpriced.
Yes; some of the drivers act like total whatevers (although I just think they're more noticable in a BMW).
But; This is a good deal.
Compared to the new Astra out soon (starting price around £15k7), even the 118d would make even us BMW haters (I did have one, I just couldn't get used to the far too hard suspension) think twice.

If only similar deals could be found on the 3 or 5 series (although I'm sorted for a while as I saved close to £7k on my new CRV).

Didn't the German Government give subsidies to keep BMW (and other) factories producing cars whilst other governments took a more relaxed view ?
Do you want to support one of the most smug economies in the world?

thelagmonster;6549447

If that's what you think when you see one...

It's not what I think.......I just tend to think "you paid too much for your car", or "didn't your price per month on your company leasing scheme allow you go for a 3 series?".
This deal eliminates the first thought, as £12k5 (or £14k5 without scrappage) is NOT too much for this car and makes it quite an attractive buy.
It's a better deal than £15k for a new Golf whichever way you look at it!

Test drove the 116d ES the other week. Very disappointing. Ended up with a Civic Type S GT for the same money. Both cars brand new! The BMW did not even have a cup holder as standard.

I have owned a 1 Series, albeit a 123d M Sport - They are the worst car in the world at the moment, BMW has turbo lag, or heistation (www.bmwland.co.uk) - even went as far as having an independant engineer look at the vehicle.

The kind of discount you can get without scrappage on a BMW is huge, I got mine for £25.5k instea of £31.5k. So it is quite easy to get discount, just have to work at it.

Oh an about the suspension (especially if you pick the upgraded wheels to 18") lets put it this way, if you want to find a way to firm up your tits drive an M Sport.

topbloke77;6549558

Since when was a cup holder the deal-breaker on buying a new car?

Good luck in your new (and so much slower than the previous model) Civic. ;-)

Personally, I thought the worst drivers were more noticeable in black cabs...:-D

NB heat and rep. Standing on its own (and not comparing it to Astras, Mercedes, helicopters, bikes or roller skates:w00t:) IT IS a good deal. Poor you, your first post and this is what you get. You'll learn soon enough that you need to dive for virtual cover when posting anything relating to chicken or eggs (unless free range) and now BMWs.

Nice post, ignore the haters - heat and rep added.

Just thinking to buy 118i M Sport 5 doors 21xxx miles Reg on June 2006 for £14890, everyone think is it worth?

Thanks guys!!

Check out Autotrader.co.uk (no I don't work for them). I've found that it gives a good indicator of what prices are actually out there (private and trade). Don't forget to haggle - aiming for an 8-9% discount. If, lol, it has no cup holder walk away from the deal! :-D Good luck

No probs. I always used to use Parkers online guide( parkers.co.uk/car…=81 ), which says:

BMW 1-Series Hatchback (04 on) 1. 118i M Sport 5d Change
2. 2006/06 Change
3. Average mileage: 30,000 miles Change
4. Adjust for mileage and options Change

No options selected

Original Price £21,420
Franchised Dealer £13,140
Independent Dealer £12,655
Private Good £11,815
Private Poor £9,960
Part Exchange £10,610

Hope that helps but of course it depends on the extras it has fitted PLUS you're getting the benefit of a BMW sourced car

Cant believe some people are comparing the likes of vauxhall/ford/honda to bmw.. :? they're aimed for a diff target market group..

But on with the deal, it looks good. But i prefer 2nd hand for the price..

They're not actually. BMW were specifically targetting the Astra/Focus when they built the 1-series.

They really aren't that much of a premium car -- it's only in the UK that we feel this way.

Next someone will start waffling on about "emotional attachment", as if that means anything on a 1.6 shopping cart.

Hyundai, BMW, Ford, whatever. I'll take whatever gives me the best combination of price, reliability and what *I* feel is the nicer drive. Which doesn't always match the general opinion.

FWIW, the 1-series is a decent car. But it really isn't that much of a premium product as compared with the (actually very well-made) Hyundai i30.

Frankly I'd take the Civic over either of them. Fantastic 1.8 petrol VTEC engine.
