He was trying to say you made a typo in the op.

So tempted for a Pro 2 at £647 still I must resist

Do these come with a keyboard?

You must admit, these are very expensive but you cannot find it any cheaper than this. Hot! Sold my iPad already to buy Surface.

expensive, but well worth it if you ask me. my only resevation on these is the 10" size. it seems a bit too toy like for the money and use for me. I would have preferred 11 or 12". I like the toshiba z10t, but it doesn't have the build or customisation options of the surface 2 pro. I settled on the vaio flip 13, but even then I'm a little dubious about the n-trig pens... I'm just too picky it seems.

Another code post that should be in the vouchers section.

Laptop anyone? It's like a new fangled "tablet" but it has this amazing interface called a "keyboard" which offers precise control of letter inputs. Also has this amazing "touchpad" which means you don't end up with finger grease all over the screen and a stiff elbow.

Android still better tho sony tablet z rocks :-)

Just buy the pro1s not the 2s, not much difference and I'm sure if checked can be gotten cheap

I've been using a Windows 8 tablet for a while now, and it's a revelation. I don't bother with my Android tablets any more - it's proper PC productivity, and the interface is really powerful once you get used to it.

I was originally going to get the Note 10.1 or Nexus 10, but I've decided to go for Surface Pro 2 with 256GB SSD.

Surface Pro (And the 2nd version) can easily be a latop and tablet replacement!
Surface RT is an expensive paper-weight..

So when looking at pricing be sure to compare like for like
And iPad + MacBook air for instance.

Also if your feeling adventurous you can dual boot android onto the Surface Pro! For those few apps and games you just can't live without on a tablet

The Surface looks like a nice bit of kit but for what it is and how much it costs I don't know why anyone would buy one.

I have both the 128GB Pro 2 and 256GB Pro 2.

bought one for myself and fiance, we both love them so much, will be replacing our laptops and ipads.

Love my surface, lights year ahead of my old android tablet.

These are too dear. I was looking at trying a surface to replace the original iPad and touchpad but no chance I'm paying that much just to run windows 8 which I deleted off the laptop.

I love the ideas of these, I bought a Dell XPS 12 (the screen flips all the way over to make it a tablet) but found it too big and heavy to use like a tablet and the screen was too small to use as a laptop. I replaced it with a proper laptop and a Nexus 7....much happier now. The End :-)

Bought one for my son for university, he loves it and its very pretty. We got our from John Lewis who gave us a 2yr warranty and they also price check so might be worth seeing if they would price check this offer and get the extra 1yr warranty

Dual booting sounds amazing flexible. Wonder if there is a windows android emulator.

I went for the Surface Pro 2 128GB as it looks awesome and also tried Quidco for 5% cashback on Android Tablets.

Too expensive for what it is. You can get a laptop with similar battery life and specs for under £400 (Acer, Asus for £150 more, etc).

This is so expensive you can get this for less:
ThinkPad T430
£719.99
Intel Core i5-3230M/14.0" HD+ (1600 x 900)/HD Graphics 4000/3 Year Depot/Express Warranty

Or:
ThinkPad T430s
£845.99
Intel Core i5-3230M/14.0" HD+ (1600 x 900)/NVIDIA Optimus Graphics (NVS 5200M, 1GB)/3 Year Depot/Express Warranty

And both of those come with the keyboard included! So it isn't £100 more than that.

The people saying they'll buy this toy for their kids to take to Uni' are just fools. Don't buy a toy to be a tool, buy a tool to be a tool. Tablets, even the "pro" ones with full 8 on them, are just toys. The way the kickstand works on this thing is seriously annoying and terrible and I wouldn't want to type on one long term in lectures (even with the "good" keyboard they sell).

Just do what everyone else does: Buy a Macbook Air, Macbook Pro, Thinkpad T or W, or a Asus (if you cannot afford "premium"). There's a reason why these are cookie cutter recommendations: because it actually will last you throughout a university education.

edit: Just want to add that my post is specifically about the concept of buying one of these for a student in place of a real laptop. It is not an indictment of the device(s) as a whole. As content consumption devices with the occasional content creation they're quite good, they're just a little expensive relative to other content consumption tablets on the market (iPads, Nexus 10, etc). If you want something to use while you watch TV, then this might prove to be a good buy for you. Ditto if you want something for travel and mostly want to consume content (i.e. read online newspapers, eBooks, play games, etc) with the rare need for content creation (writing the occasional emails or a little word processing).

As said before, if you want a hammer, buy a hammer. Don't buy a Swiss Army Knife with a hammer attachment and then claim you can do all the things a real hammer can do just as well. This is not a laptop replacement even with the keyboard.

Yeah..... recently bought a Latitude 10 ST2 off Dell Outlet. Win 8 Pro, 128gb SSD, 3G, 4-cell battery all for £300. 'Certified Refurbished', but built to order!. Have sold my Android tablet on eBay, and my i5 Dell Vostro 13" notebook will be appearing on eBay soon!

I've just had a play with the original Surface - modern/Metro interface - and it works a dream with a touchscreen.

Ok, so the integration with the original Desktop interface is a mess BUT the touchscreen is great for :-
people that aren't that computer literate and/or
are clumsy with a keyboard and/or
find Apple too expensive and/or
haven't used Android

Combined with the recent price drop and free Windows 8.1 upgrade on the original Surface, £251 is a great price. Also bear in mind you can add an extra 64GB memory with a £35 micro SD card!

Thanks, have ordered one and heated. Noticed Microsoft offer 5% on surface through Quidco if you want one direct.

was holding out for the asus t100 for ~£400, but the extra for the surface pro 2 is worth it. Best tablet on the market imo. sure you could get a laptop, but thats like saying theres no point buying a bmw m5 when you can get a mondeo for less.

Yep there are android "emulators" for windows. You can run almost any android app on Surface Pro. But why? For those few android games if can install Steam on it?

I had use of a Surface Pro 1 for a few weeks and loived it and would love to own one. However I couldn't justify the cost when you consider that the keyboard cover was an extra £100 and that (unlike the RT models) don't include Office.

Not worth it IMO.

Ooh cheers for that. Must be the 64gb thats 399.

best tabs on the market. prices are worth it IMO, thanks OP

I had an original surface, was really excellent, only sold it to try an ultrabook. For this price it may be worth jumping back. For media consumption these are amazing. And the build quality easily rivals anything else.

Grrr. Decisions decisions. VLC is almost out too. Grr again.

Likewise. I just bought a Latitude 10 with 4-cell battery, Windows 8 Pro and 64GB SSD for £240. Absolutely fantastic piece of kit and no more expensive than a good Android tablet, which could never have the functionality of a full Windows tablet anyway. It's certainly a far better deal than buying a Surface.

Good arn't they! The Asus that you linked, the t100 is a better device if you need the full windows experience. You get a lot for your money with the asus and if I was going to ditch my ultrabook it would be between the two. But buying a surface is a lot like buying a nexus device for android, it just seems to work very well. If you enjoy aesthetics (I do), you will like the surface. If you want power and the full Windows experience i'd go with the t100. If you want the best of both the surface pro 2

Shame the t100 is $349 in US and £349 here. Even taking in to account VAT we're being screwed and its even worse with the dell 8 venue pro. $249 and £300! Anyone know of a good US website? Only heard of newegg.

Yes, it's part of the Android SDK.

Each to their own really. To my mind, the Surface Pro 2 isn't bad value at all when measured against the T430. The T430 is a little bit faster, has a larger screen and more storage. The Surface is smaller, lighter, uses solid state storage and has touch/pen input. I expect the Surface's screen is probably the better quality of the two as well, given the resolution and generally very positive comments coming out of reviews.

The CPU is the most significant nod in the T430's favour, and it's not exactly a giant leap ahead in performance.
