Bought one of these as my 2nd phone on Friday and can't believe what a bargain this phone is with the specs it got.
Really well built, very nice screen, seems to be really good battery life, very smooth OS and Nokia (HMD) are promising timely updates and keeping to it!
Seems to be a pleasant bargain compared to the likes of LG/OnePlus/HTC and even Samsung especially as updates are major issues with most of them.

Anyway, hopefully someone finds this useful as I very nearly overlooked this awesome phone!
Also worth noting the software is practically stock; a huge positive I think.

John Lewis having excellent customer service is a total myth. In fact Very were better at owning up to me to bad customer service than they were. Complete and utter myth.

Yep...colleague of mine's expensive Sony TV broke just after a few months , it remains broken after months of calls / visits to JL due to the poor customer service and repair people. Still probably better than argos though

My one is running 8.1, did the upgrade as soon as I switched it on
Same, running 8.1 with April security patch.

Agreed, JL customer services are horrific with electricals. They really do try and avoid their obligations regarding manufacturer's warranty and their own 2 year guarantee isn't worth the paper it's printed on.
in store - iphone 6s replaced within 2 year JL warranty without any issues, nice as pie
This or the Nokia 7 Plus? I hear good things about both phones.

How is the fingerprint sensor on this, I’d read it was a bit too small to work consistently? I’m tempted, I really like the look of this.

Sensor is fine and fast, brilliant phone and puts my old s7 edge to shame, I would find it very difficult going back to a non stock android phone, I'm running Microsoft's excellent launcher and I have turned transition animations off and now it's even more of a rocket
Good phone

I bought this phone last week to replace my Moto Z which developed a battery fault. The fingerprint sensor is quite small and I find it works less well compared to the sensor on the Moto Z. Sometimes it takes a couple of attempts to read a fingerprint. It's a minor issue for such a great phone though.
Its an amazing phone, got one a few weeks ago, so good for the money. 128gb version went cheap with Carphone warehouse too.

We all right and wrong, I had an issue with a TV I bought from argos and replaced it for a new one straight away with another 12month warranty...

Coming from a nexus 5x, I don't find any issues with the sensor at all

This, cheaper, faster, better apart from bezels and no 18:9 screen. I own a 7 Plus and it's going back tomorrow. the software feels like it's beta, bugs everywhere, lag, slow camera etc dogy wi-fi, the list goes on. Those in India and Europe on Oreo 8.1 say the update sorts alot of the issues but we in the UK are still waiting for it. Life's to short so get the 8, save a few quid and feel smug knowing you got the better deal.

I had a good experience at Argos when I bought an LG TV only to find it had really poor connectivity, just one hdmi if I remember correctly. Don't know what LG were thinking!?! They allowed me to take back and upgrade to a better model. I'd use Richer Sounds where possible though because of the extended warranty.

I find that with my work Samsung A3 too compared to my Moto G5 Plus, along with their gesture control. One of the things Lenovo have got right. I just wish they'd sort out the bugginess and updates.

Are the days of higher number = better now a thing of the past?

8 is better than 7, right? I don't care I got a Chinese phone and I'm happy.

Eh?????

The 7 Plus has a Snapdragon 660 so performance should be nearly equal to the 8's SD 835 but in reality for th,e reasons I gave, for the UK models its not. If those issues were sorted and the price was similar then I'd definitely say go for the 7 Plus. But at the present time I can't recommend it.

Had nothing but exceptional service. Our TV got accidentally broken. Damaged pixels. Gave refund and got to keep TV.

I will never buy from anyone else again lol

TV works fine but has a couple of dead pixels. Nothing you can see unless looking very carefully on black images.

Every time I use Argos and have a problem they are polite, efficient and take responsibility. Better than the atrocious Amazon CS you get from Amazons shady, weasley, awful Indian CS centers, motivated by screwing customers out of their consumer rights. Never really used John Lewis, always seen it as a shop that sells overpriced ebay tat and general items for people who like to think they're better than everyone else because of where they buy their coasters.

I ordered this one from John Lewis on Friday, but i wish I had got the 128gb one from CPW when it was £349.

I thought that was the normal price, so I wasn't in any rush to buy it. If I had know it would only be at that pricefor a week, or so, I'd have got the one you bought.

Yeah, I meant I thought £349 was now the normal price, because the Nokia 8 Sirocco was coming out. I knew it had been dearer in the past.

Still, I daresay the 64gb one will do me just fine, but, as I said, I would rather have spent the extra £50 for the 128gb version
