Good budget camcorder from Samsung with nod bad reviews.

Real Schneider lenses with x10 zoom and 5M still pictures so much better choice than lots of cheap noname camcorders on the market.

£129.99 @ Play.com

It's 1080i, not 1080p.

looks decent

Been looking for something to record "moments" ...this seems the ideal price for a brand name item

Compatible spare batteries are nice and cheap for this (£3-£10).

Amazon price £110

This looks a great piece of kit... decided to upgrade my old video camera... new baby on the way, so I'm sure it will get a lot of use... good spot op

will make a good cam for YouTube and general mess about.

"Real Schneider" wasn't he the guy who played chief Brody in Jaws
looks good heat added and apologies !

Strangely its also for sale in their listings further down their items for sale as £89

Is this the best you can get for around £100?

Heat from me

Will this have a better video quality than an Iphone 4?

great price.

It's 1080i, not 1080p. Calling it 1080p or 'Full HD' is incorrect and misleading.
Still a decent price for what you get.

This is an okay camera for the price. If you're looking for a traditional video camera form factor then it's a good buy, especially with the 10X optical zoom and optical image stabilization - both of which you won't get from a phone.

However if your primary concern is picture quality, then it's definitely worth putting the £80 towards something over the £100 mark. The camera has been on the market for 2 years and the image quality will appear a little blurry and miscoloured compared to the latest generation of smartphones.

tempted as looking for something to take to Disneyland Paris and take simple pics/movies.

Ahem. Lumia 920 has OIS. No optical zoom though ....

a friend of mine has one of these and although the price is ok the picture quality isn't as good as he thought. He says his iphone 5 has better video quality under the right conditions.MY advice is get a decent compact camera and use the video camera on that.I read in some tech magazines that video cameras are taking a dive now as the newer compacts have excellent video capabilities not to mention the smartphones.
And remember if the lens itself isn't great theres no amount of megapixels that will save the the image quality

You've been looking in the wrong places, get a smart phone... X)

Mixed reviews guys...

A friend has asked me to film his wedding, I'm looking into finding a camera to do this, hopefully good quality at an affordable price, anyone got any suggestions other than this please?

Sample vid from this camera if anyone's interested:

Think you'll find sales of both compacts AND vidcams are suffering from the use of smartphones. Same story for SatNavs, Organizers, calculators, mp3 players, address books, etc etc etc....... where would we be without them?

Not it isn't. Its just a personal youtube account. Have you even looked at his other videos. They vary from other stunt videos to freerunning and guitar hero vids. Stop making silly presumptions

Does your mate know that you don't even have a video camera?

That made me laugh Mcspank.

Anyways time to plug some awesome freeware for you - Deshaker. A plug in for virtual dub and gives very good results. Better than some pro stuff. Its an image stabilization soft for your wobbly vids.

Yep he does, he's not getting married until next year so I'm not in a massive rush for one.
We even spoke about hiring one for the day.

I've got a couple of DV cameras but obviously not very practical these days.

Hmm - nod bad.

Looking at reviews on the net for this camera, it seems to be well rated. I've had a punt on it as I want one for holiday but don't want to spend a fortune.

External mike cannot be attached.

Nephew's going on holiday to the States this July for 20 days, would this be okay to get some good footage on two 16GB Cards?

Thanks!

I've researched the camcorder market quite thoroughly a few months ago and I came to the conclusion that this was DEFINITELY the best that £99 could buy (Argos ebay refurbished). Took a punt and bought it, it turned up with NO POSTAGE PADDING broken mechanically out of the box (could only turn it off by taking the battery out). ANNOYED.

But new and £80 and I'm SERIOUSLY tempted to give Argos ebay another shot, this is head and shoulders above any other camera quality wise for this price. Bought a JVC HM445 for £125 after my Q10 fiasco and it's slightly worse quality. Gutted.

I bought one of these from Argos ebay just before Christmas, it was for a gift. Supposed to be new, was an open box very tatty and obviously used as all the cables etc were held together with 1 elastic band, and the camera was covered in fingerprints. It had a "checked by" sticker on the box which would not peal off and a signature in permanent marker that covered not only the sticker but the tatty/scuffed/ripped box.
I called them and was told this was normal, as they open and check all new electrical items to make sure they work properly (_;)

Ordered. Thanks

I agree, even Argos eBay are very good with returns. I bought a refurb camera from them a year or so ago. They were clear that it was a customer return and it was in perfect condition. Mechanically it was sound, but it had a really bad smell of cigarettes. I contacted them, and they refunded and paid for the return postage with no issues whatsoever. The refund took a while, but they accept the return with no problems. I have ordered a few items from Argos on ebay, that were listed as new, and each one was factory sealed, so I have no reason to doubt that this is the same.

As they sell a lot of refurb, returned products on their website, those with negative experiences may have thought that they were purchasing brand new, but were actually purchasing a return.
