I currently have a Casio Exilim ex-z1050 that my dad really likes, it's his birthday soon and I'd like to get him a camera, but how do the two compare?

I found this link but it doesn't mean a lot to me unfortunately: geekwithlaptop.com/com…348

Thanks

Good deal ... was thinking of buying this camera a few days ago when Argos Ebay were selling it for the same price PLUS £4 delivery, so a small reduction, but a reduction nonetheless.

Heat.

If you don't mind it being refurbished (by the factory itself - mine arrived looking absolutely brand new) this one might be a better deal for £115.59 Delivered

@blizeh I'd go with the Samsung personally

They have these in the corby clearance branch for £54.99

treat this as a rough comparison as they sometimes miss a few differences but gives a ok gauge

ive tried the samsung wb600 and wb650 and they were good cameras but like the panny tz10 suffer from low light as do alot of point and shoots....i didnt like the samsung menu system and felt some options were buried too deep in the menu but im sure its been 90 for ages, the tz10 was a bit better imo

snapsort.com/com…500

depends what pics you will take but whilst the casio isnt a bad camera the samsung is alot better id say

better light sensivity, hd recording (720p), image stabilisation for drunks, plus a few other big diffs - see link

Does this camera have image stabilisation? Otherwise a 10x zoom will be useless if you're not using a tripod.

Not had direct experience of either of these camera models, but I have owned both casio and samsung compact cameras in the past and both were good.

My only comment regarding these two is that as a general rule sensor size is absolutely critical, in combination with lens quality and image processing circuitry. Your ex-z1050 has a 40% BIGGER SENSOR than the samsung, which should translate to significantly better quality images (sorry Royals).

The counter-argument to this is that camera quality tends to increase year on year and the ex-z1050 (Jan 2007) is 2 years older than the wb500 (Jan 2009) so the difference may not be all that great. Then again, the samsung is now over 2 years old itself, so you may be better just buying a brand new model for around £100, which could be better than either....

Thank you so much guys, I think with that in mind, plus the fact it's almost impossible to find a EX-Z1050 nowadays anyway I think this Samsung could be the way forward, unless of course like andy said I could get something newer for only a bit more that'd do a slightly better job? ie better 720p recording or something?

Sorry to be a pain, just want to get the best camera possible for my dad, this one does look good though, cheers.

You might want to try checking out the canon ixus 110is at Argos, they are normally over £150, but they have (very limited stocks of) the silver one currently for £99.99:

I'm a big fan of Canon cameras and I actually bought one of these for my daughter (for quite a bit more than £99!) last year. Image quality is top notch, it has 12 Megapixels resolution (samsung is 9Mp) and the only thing the Samsung beats it on is zoom range.

I don't know if there are any of the ixus 110's near you, though, there aren't any near me.

Ah, many thanks andyken, that one looks great but no stock in my area either Would've ordered it otherwise...

Note: don't count higher pixel count as a "win" between models. Its a great marketing ploy. Many of the best current compacts still sit around the 9-10mp mark.
