these are great wee cars - do exactly what it says on the tin

Hear added. Alto is not that bad. Good post op.

Looking forward to the next generation Alto. Don't own one but think the current model might need a bit of finessing.

Second hand BMW bla bla bla..

I used to own a 2009 alto sz3. It was a basic econobox but did what I asked of it. The equipment was a bit sparse but was ok. Fuel economy was pretty good and on a good run would do 60-65mpg, around town I'd say about 40mpg. I never had any problems with the car other than the windscreen washer cable leaking, but that was solved in about a minute at the dealership. It was cheap to run and a fun little drive and I have to say it was probably one of the most fun cars I have driven (not the most comfortable though).

I paid 4k for a one year old model that had some extra exterior add on's so may be worth looking at second hand for this but for a brand new car you can't go wrong for £5999.

For anyone interested in this also consider the Nissan pixo which is the sister car of this. It's also sometimes cheaper to get Nissan parts for the alto (sometimes...).

Hot from me. Best cars I've ever owned were all Suzukis.

That's a bargain for a brand new small car. I could have about 5 of those for the price of my car - scary thought that! oO

Can they do 60mph? that alone is news to me.

If you paid 30 k for that m3 then don't worry, it will soon be worth only 2 of these cars #depreciation

great if you're an old woman or a midget. Even then it's a stretch...

I bought one brand new in August and it has been great FREE road Tax a real world 60mpg and cost me £100 fully comp to insure. Fair enough it sounds a bit tinny but it has saved me loads on my daily commute. The equivalent Citroen C1 with elec windows central locking and 5 doors is well over 8 grand (Its what I traded in for the Alto). Almost 4500 miles done and no probs. A steal for the money in my opinion, only real minus is the miniscule boot

Been driving a Wagon r+ for ten years - sorely tempted!

Ref the C1, not french build quality as they (aygo,107,c1) are all built in one factory in the Czech Republic at a rate of a about 1000 a day on a basic toyota platform. However my 2006 model had the exhaust bracket come apart (common) clutch failure (common on pre 2009 models) Gearbox syncromesh failure at about 55k miles. Glad to part with it in the end

It does it in 13.5 seconds which seems fine to me.

In contrast, some of the basic 1.2l VW Polo models take around 17 seconds.

So what you're telling us is that you paid £30k for your car.

Anyone impressed? ........................... thought not.

Ignore any road tests on these cars they all seem to slate them, I had exactly the same concenrs when I purchased the previous model for my wife back in 2004.. No they are not BMW's but they are very good little cars. My wife and I have neglected this car beyond belief. Its been washed less then a handful of times; left standing for 3 years and then heavy usage the year after and many missed services. The only thing I have replaced (last year) was the back box on the exhaust and the battery. Actually the back box did not strictly need replacing just the out shell of the box was a bit scruffy. My two daughters now have this model and they also seem very good. Only time will tell if they are as hardy as the previous model but I do not see any reason why they should not be. They are certainly more refined then the previous model. In my experience the Suzuki Alto is a fantastic cars and one of the best things I ever purchased and I have owned many top of the range with all the modcons. The most you can ever loose is £5999 and they actually hold there price very well. If you need a cheap car do not hesitate buy one.

I've had my alto since 2009 and I love it, my partner uses it for work and he uses it fine. My dad also drives it and likes it. I paid more than that for mine new.

no automatic at this price.

why do I always dismiss cars with only 3 cylinders ?

I'm sure they're well designed , just 40 odd years of only driving 4 cylinder cars I guess.

I own a Suzuki Alto and got this deal in July. Great little car and fun to drive - does me for school runs, shopping, going about town, etc. Issues include the fact that it steams up pretty easily. In terms of acceleration, if you're quick with your initial gear changes you can get it speeding up pretty damn quickly - don't expect a rocket though! Have taken it out on a B road and you do notice its inability to get any high speed going. The boot isn't bad, I should add, for its size - I can fit most of a full shop for a family of three in it and stick the last few bags on the back seat.

If you want a fun, economical car about town for new and on a budget (like me) then you can't go wrong with this.

Cheap basic car that gets you from A to B. Not particularly comfy but has low running costs. Only point I would make is, basic model does not have air-con.

Incredible price so heat added. Pay a tad more and look into a Hyundai i10, similar price band and very popular at the moment, the wife and sister have one. Just my humble opinion. Props to OP.

Bought this in their last offer in January. I can only give positives about this car to be honest. Its nippy in and around city streets. Its taken me and 3 friends to Holland, Amsterdam. The gas consumption is ridiculous sometimes, on that particular journey, its was £70 to Amsterdam and back, I live in London with all four of us and luggage. The finish of the dashboard id give it its lowest points, can be scuffed quite easily and its not anywhere the level to impress someone. I get a pretty large pram in the back with space for a shopping bag or 3. If its empty you could fill it with around 12-15 bags of shopping. It has never let me down the beautiful little thing.

Economically its a sight to behold, but if your into the ''TRAFFIC LIGHT IS CHANGING TO GREEN and revving the hell outta the engine to fly off at breakneck speed'' this is not for you. If you like a car thats economical, gets from A to B. Can stay up with the best of them. Trying to go up a hill from 0mph is not its best attributes mind you but boy can it keep up whilst in its motion on the motorway. Ive hit 100mph and the beauty wont do more than that though. Even at that speed it never felt like it would rattle out of its hinges, its quite sturdy.

Its a family car, its a singles car, couple car, its a city car, its a cute car, its a 4 door car, its the cheapest new model you can buy. Its not a look at me my car can go 256mph but yes, I know, the speed limit is only 30. Engines never let me down but its not a car if you live in an area reminiscent of San Francisco though.

I love the Alto. Really, I do. I didnt even bother reading any reviews in this thread, especially from people whove never owned or ridden one. I use this thing everyday.

November 2013

A bit of topic this, but of all of the motorbikes i have owned Suzuki's had the nicest gearbox's in my option.

Great car. Bought one in March and it drives beautifully.

i didn't realise these things hit 60mph as all the old coffin dodgers round lincolnshire drive them at a constant 35mph in all speed limits so thought they were fixed speed

oh dear... you do realise that the C1's were neither designed nor built in France?

I bet you're one of those idiots who would pay a hefty amount more for a Toyota Aygo because it has a Japanese manufactures badge when they're exactly the same car underneath.

dude. how dare you spend £30k on a car. get off HUKD and never come back. you dont deserve to save money. the only way to redeem yourself is by selling your car and buying 5 of these. do it now!

Looks a good car for the money, but wouldn't buy a model without air con, and it's only the most expensive model (£8k) that has curtain and side airbags and things like a 50:50 split rear seat. The latter came in handy when loading our old Aygo (with lack of much boot) with shopping, or when you had one passenger in the back and needed more luggage space. 0 - 60 in 13.5 secs isn't bad, about the same as the Aygo which was pretty nippy around town. Choice between a new and nearly new car I guess.
