This seems like a cracking deal considering what is included. They generally get decent reviews as well.

Price of £30.13 for the year covers the vehicle, not the person, and you need to apply the discount code MVC58481599A for 15% off.

Included:

Roadside Assistance

We will send help to the scene of the breakdown, which must be more than 1 mile radius away from your home address, to repair or assist the vehicle.

Nationwide Recovery

If, in the opinion of the Recovery Operator, they are unable to repair the vehicle at the roadside, we will arrange for the vehicle, you and up to 6 passengers to be recovered to a garage for repair, your home or original destination, whichever is nearer.

Home

Your vehicle will be covered at your registered home address or within a one mile radius of your home address.

Accident Recovery

If your vehicle is involved in an accident rendering it immobile or illegal we will transport your vehicle in accordance with the terms of the policy you have purchased.

Alternative Travel

If our repairing recovery operator is unable to repair your vehicle within the same working day or a period agreed between you and our Rescue Controller, we will pay up to £100.00 (maximum) towards the cost of alternative transport or car hire. We will also pay the cost of a single standard rail ticket for one person to return and collect the vehicle.

Emergency Overnight Accommodation

If we decide to provide alternative accommodation we will pay a maximum of £60.00 for a lone traveller or £40.00 per person per night for you and up to 6 passengers.

Key Assist

If you lose or break your keys we will pay the call out and mileage back to our recovery operator's base or your home if closer

Caravans and Trailers

If your vehicle breaks down and your caravan/trailer is attached, providing the caravan/trailer is fitted with a standard towing hitch and does not exceed 7 metres (23 feet) in length, your caravan/trailer will be recovered with your vehicle at no extra cost.

Message Assist

If you require, we will pass on two messages to your home or place of work to let them know of your predicament and ease your worry.

Unfortunately can't find them on quidco or tcb.

Thanks for that. It does state on the Start Rescue site that they use Call Assist - who provide break down cover to many insurance companies. They use a network of local agents, much like Green Flag.

They are definitely legit :-)

For £38 at RAC I think you only get the basic roadside cover. No home start, no onward or nationwide recovery etc, so not really the same.

I looked at this company at the weekend for new cover, this is what put me off:

If, in the opinion of the Recovery Operator, they are unable to repair the vehicle at the roadside, we will arrange for the vehicle, you and up to 6 passengers to be recovered to a garage for repair, your home or original destination, whichever is nearer.

Unless I am misunderstanding what is written, it isn't really nationwide recovery in the sense that most companies use it, it is "recovery to nearest garage only (unless you live closer than the nearest garage)".

They recover the car (and passengers) to the nearest garage, either at your home or where you are headed. However, you are also covered for onward travel of you and your passengers inc travel/accommodation if required.

I think thats pretty standard!

Not exactly, it is quite different. For example, the AA:

National recovery
Extends towing cover from a local garage to a mainland address – most people opt to be taken home.
The average car breaks down 26 miles from home, so this national recovery option allows you to choose where we take you. The cover includes your car and up to 7 passengers and is known as 'Relay'.

I see what you mean. Well, maybe it isn't quite the same. But for the price difference, I'm happy with what it does offer to be honest. I rarely do long trips anyway :-)

It just put me off, onward travel is fine but your car may be stuck as a bad garage 200 miles from home, with the need to go back and collect it on the train once fixed.

Well, IMO this is a hot deal.

I mainly do local trips within a 20 mile radius of my home - so this is ideal. It's worth it as it's still cheaper than paying for a single tow in most areas.

Home start is one of the more appealing aspects of this for me as well ... as to get that you almost always have to buy the more expensive RAC/AA packages.

does the age of vehicle matter?
mine is 15/16 years old and will soon not be covered with"free" breakdown cover because of age
so this could be good for me

On their homepage, select the year of manufacturer and it amends the price.

It is more for an older car but still competitive.
