Still a fair amount of dough for a not very nice looking kettle. Would never have a stainless steel one as they just show the fingermarks. Not voted

"features" on a kettle. You mean the on/off switch

like mentioned above, still a lot of money just for a kettle. i cant believe people would pay the full ridiculous price for this kettle.

You think so?
A quick scan of Argos shows the CHEAPEST 3Kw jug kettle at pennies under 20 quid, it's a plain plastic thing - this is less than 4.50 more, and whatever else might be said, it is a lot more attractive! OK there might be a cheaper one around, but clearly the going rate starts at this level!

I think you might be confusing cheaper kettles with this type - and it is like comparing apples with oranges - a 3kw disc element kettle is nothing like the cheap 1.8Kw exposed element type - for one thing the time it takes to boil isn't comparable at all.

My only complaint with this item - had 3 Breville kettles over the last 5 years or so, and am now onto another brand which is poor too, and the surface finish is damaged, but at least it still works!. The Breville ones last no time at all, other brands are not much better, just the Breville ones are so short-lived :-(

i remember when you could pick up a decent kettle for a tenner and would've lasted years.
and im not talking that long ago

Jug kettles were a big step forward in terms of functionality and convenience, but from their first days were a lot more expensive, and not as reliable, and I am going back certainly 20+ years! (I struggle to think when I first had a jug style kettle, it must have been very early 1980s). More recently, VERY cheap jug kettles have been around, but only very basic external element 2Kw ones. I have seen them as cheap as a fiver in the recent past, but other than for use in a shed or garage, I can't think I would want one!

Old style electric kettles did last years, but they used masses more electricity, as you need to boil pints for just one cup of coffee, and slow doesn't adequately describe the process!

I have this kettle and it really is great, good capacity, boils quickly, fairly noisy but worth it for the speedy boil. Only grumble is that if you need lots of boiled water, boil it and go to refill it can flick a drop of boiling water onto your hand as the lid flicks open.

nasty kettle, wouldnt buy breville again after midhaps with 2 irons and this kettle.
NASTY!

the lid made load noises as if something loose inside after only two weeks of buying it. The same problem happened to my friend.

and mine too! I got mine in the sale in Sainsbury's about a year ago, but when I went back there were none left, so I thought I'd put up with the rattle.

It's not too bad - but like everyone else, I certainly wouldn't pay full price!

They should sell it as an eco kettle, because my husband insists on switching it off at the wall because of the blue light which lights up half the kitchen! :whistling:
