IN-STORE ONLY. Next best is £4.99 at HMV. Found in Poundland Swindon, but hopefully available everywhere.

A respectable, happily married doctor (Trevor Howard) comes to the aid of an equally upstanding housewife (Celia Johnson) when a passing train blows cinder into her eye. Thus begins a tentative romance, conducted in the tearooms and railway cafe of a small English town. David Lean's classic study of a peculiarly British affair, played with straight bat and stiff-upper lip, features Rachmaninov on the soundtrack, and garnered Oscar nominations for director, screenplay and Celia Johnson. Also included is the 20-minute documentary 'A Profile of Brief Encounter'.

wife really wants to see this, will tell her to go check in her lunchbreak on monday

This film is "awfully and frightfully" good, but with some "ghastly and beastly" moments too.

Good film but was a newspaper freebie a little while ago.

Original Poster

Does the newspaper freebie have the documentary included on this release? Probably not.

but is that still available? genuinely interested as a) my wife would get that instead! and b) if its not available then there was no real need to mention it! £1 is cheap enough thank OP

Obviously, newspaper freebies are one day things. And wasn't it in a boradsheet that was more expensive than buying this?

No, but it was free and didn't involve a trip to some frickin' godforsaken poundland:p

Voted cold as it is not in my local store..a lot of these poundland DVD deals never seem to turn up in my local store.

It will turn up again. The Sunday Telegraph has two films free tomorrow - both have been freebies before.

Reach For The Sky and In Which We serve, if anyone is interested.

But how are you supposed to know when? That's like saying "Don't post DVDs, they'll turn up on the telly". It's irrelevant.

And like I keep saying, this DVD is a fully fledged retail release with extras and chapter stops, luxuries newspaper DVDs scarcely have.

That shouldn't be any reason to vote cold. Some Poundland deals don't turn up at the same time in stores. Tommy: The Movie only just turned up today, for instance.

Not always. Like I said, just because it isn't available to you doesn't mean it won't be elsewhere. Its a bit of a selfish viewpoint.

One more bit of heat, please.

well if its not in stock you can always opt for poundland porn dvds for a pound

Wonderful movie - probably the best British film of all time.

and.....who cares

I liked this film, great period piece ( Celia Johnson I mean ).

But my birthday's in June and there aren't any pantomimes

I went to see this at the theatre a couple of weeks ago and loved it. I would recommend the play to anyone and im desperate to get the movie so this is great thanx!!!

And the stage show/musical is amazing!

BTW if you want some real fun - when you watch the movie and it gets to that scene where they spend the night together and are changing into jim jams and night clothes - try turning down the sound and playing Let's Get it On in the background - now that's a mashup! :whistling:
