Wow the cartridges have gone up in price a lot. I used to use them up to about 4 years ago and I don't ever remember paying more than about £14 for 6

Well that is with 6 cartridges. If you add 6 extra Aqua Optima cartridges that is another £12, so £29.40 and not far off the £31.99 of this deal for those who prefer Brita.
I recently bought a 12-month supply of cartridges from finerfilters.co.uk (£15 incl postage) - you can often find the jugs in charity shops/boot sales.

FYI the Aqua Optima filters in that link last for 60 days, so it would be the equivalent to 12 Brita cartridges

Thanks for pointing that out. My apologies then to dbox, the Aqua Optima are indeed better value.

However I'm wary of how fresh the water tastes if the cartridges are swapped at 2 month intervals, but on the other hand I guess that has already been factored into their design.

Most Brita users know that the filter price is where the sellers make their money, but most also now that the filters are frequently discounted to a more realisatic price. A reasonable discounted price is £2.50 each when bought in quantities of 4 or 6 and they often crop-up on HUKD at this price or less. If I ever ran out, I would buy no more than 2 filters at the inflated "normal" price because I know that within the total 60day lifespan of those two filters an offer would miraculously appear equiv to £2.50 each or less. I certainly wouldn't pay more than £15 for 6 filters.

I'm using Aqua Optima for nearly two years now and before that I was using Brita Classic. In my opinion, surprisingly, Aqua Optima offers better quality water. Even the filters are for two month it doesn't get this "aquarium water smell" (sorry can't think of better description) as Brita Classic develops after about 2-3 weeks.

Down side to Aqua Optima is that it's designed to filter only 100 litres of water per month as oppose to Brita's 150. That could be important note for bigger families or work places.
