U have to pay £99 for excess and there is no annual service. Pointless.
Worked ok for me and I’m not with Sky.

With the excess it’s not ideal but if the boiler stops working, get a plumber in to quite to fix, if it’s more than £99 use this. If not get them to do it. The cover isn’t costing anything so why not

Wouldn’t bother - “This is an introductory price for your first 12 months. …Wouldn’t bother - “This is an introductory price for your first 12 months. We'll contact you before your renewal date to notify you of your renewal price, and you can choose to change or cancelyour contract if you wish.“

So because in 12 m time it's renewed this offers not worth it.Probably the strangest comment I've heard on HUKD.

Follow the link and fill in the form anyway..... doesn't ask for any payment details.
Its not free if you choose the anual service option.

Slightly off topic, I'm with British Gas for cover already, been meaning to check for better deals for Boiler cover with central heating cover, anybody aware of any going at the moment?

They don't ask for any payment details, so nothing to lose
As an alternative you can get this (as I have) if your a British gas customer for £50 with a £50 excess. It covers more breakdowns around the home too (electrics etc) . It's called Energy Extra 50. Used it last week as my boiler broke down and needed a new valve

Are British gas still offering free hive bulbs to customers and if so would being a customer of this make you eligible? Thanks.

Interesting. I don't have existing cover and have registered without any trouble.

As A2DY_ says if your boiler breaks down for £99 British Gas will come and fix it. If they can't fix it you get your £99 back.

So no loss really - unless it is a really simple fault (which is what BG rely on) and you have a blown fuse or the system requires topping up.

We have Britiish Gas cover on a landlord policy and this past year the service levels have been very poor - 2 missed appointments (and compensation paid both times) so I'm surprised to see BG effectively signing up loads more customers without payment.

I get heating cover with Admiral platinum home insurance (which is excellent cover regardless of the home emergency element). Last time I used the heating cover I got British Gas out and passed the cost on to Admiral for a refund. It's like windscreen cover on your car in that a claim on that element doesn't count as a claim on the main policy (so no hike in cost next year and no claim to declare if you move).

Don’t know of any other current deals out there, but when you get your renewal quote you can always ask them to see if they can better the new deal. Most advisors are authorised to give 10% discount. My renewal quote has gone up £52 per year so I will be ringing them next week to get the price down
Might be a silly question but does British Gas have to be your current Energy provider?
Thanks for comments. Will investigate Jules_HT. that's high, paying £38/m for HomeCare 4, and no, you don't need to be with BG for utility.
I'm a Sky customer and would have taken this up as my cover with SSE is about to renew, but that cover already has no excess and includes an annual service... so once you add those to the British Gas cover, it comes out same price.
Would be great if Annual Boiler Service was included.
Anytime know when this offer ends? My current cover is till 5 Jan 2018

Thanks in advance

Haha, so you’re expecting a ‘plumber’ to come out to your property and spend time diagnosing the fault all for free?

As this is free you could just get this and let your existing one lapse in Jan
I've had this cover and used it a few times. It used to be free with british gas dual fuel customers, then they started charging for it. The main point is they will fix your boiler for as cheap as possible. I has a noisy fan, and the engineer was in and out in 10 minutes, he just oiled the bearings, even though they were worn. It started making a noise again a few months later, and after a bit of hassle they replaced it. Another time, after torrential rain some water got inside the boiler. The PCB started arcing and smoking. I thought they would replace it, but they didn't, just dried it with my wife's hair dryer. Didn't seem safe to me, again a 10 minute visit. I did feel ripped of paying £99 for that. Another occasion the thermistor failed, and the engineer replaced it, spending over 1 1/2 hours, so I was happy with the service on one occasion. For free it's worth having, just bear in mind if there's a quick fix, that's what they'll do over a reliable fix. On the other hand, you're less likely to get ripped off being charged for unnecessary work.

Just be prepared for the old chestnut,,"your boiler is knocking on and it's that old we may(lie) not be able to replace parts",to subsidise their wages the engineers are pushing this one to death, they get £10 for just a phone call to give you quote for new boiler,,having said that compared to the rest the decent cover option from them is arguably best for value, dear ,yes, but better than a two bit egit that probably is clueless !

Good point, went ahead with it and set a 12month calendar reminder to cancel, just in case.

I pay less than that for buildings, contents (incl away from home and about £7k of specified items), and the home emergency cover. You'd need to check exactly what the cover levels are, but it's worth a look.

If you look at the list of what is actually included in a BG boiler service you'll realise how pointless it is. Service a car and you get new oil, maybe plugs and fuel filter- something for your money.

What do British Gas engineers do during a boiler service?

  • Our engineer will inspect your boiler and controls to make sure they are operating safely.
  • The inspection will include checking your boiler for corrosion and leaks.
  • Your boiler casing will be removed to check the functioning of its main components.
  • A gas pressure check will ensure your boiler is operating at the correct gas pressure.
  • A flue test will ensure that no unsafe emissions are being released from your boiler.
  • Your boiler’s parts will be cleaned as required.
  • Your boiler’s casing will be put back on and properly sealed.
  • Our engineer will leave a checklist with you including all of the relevant information you need about the safety of your boiler.

This service is more like an MOT than a service.

The rub is that many boiler service contracts require you to have a boiler "service".
This is quite misleading, in all honesty you would want to have the Boiler Serviced at least once a year so its more like just ensuring all is in place, you can get better offers from WOWCHER & Groupon on Boiler Services etc

Ditto. Its a free offer for 12months u can always cancel after that yet people still complain
I won’t have Sky in the house so it’s ice cold from me.
The fact the title has been misspelt for 6 hours makes me want to rip my skin off and shred it until I have a basket full of skin confetti, which I'll then roll around the floor in until I suffocate

Yes it is. Go through money Martin's and you will find it.
This appears to be worth £3/month (that's the cost displayed if you don't use the voucher code link).
I have boiler care 100 with BG for last 8 years. Currently I pay £4 a month and £99 excess. This has worked well for us. Never had any problems with BG. No hassle of finding a plumber especially in cold winter months.

It's called a gas safety check.
That's the legal term and it's a requirement if you are landlord for example in tenants property.
It's not a "service" of any kind and British Gas selling it as such are is a scam.
My local plumber does one for £40 or £35 off the books.
Nothing for free! They gonna charge u triple times more than yr local repairers!
