condemn your boiler as unrepairable then walk away

put the annual money in a shoebox under the bed and get a new boiler when it finally gives up

I would not bother to get a boiler cover if the boiler is older than 10 years. Just buy a new one.
Above points are interesting and usually I would vote to self insure as dogswotsits says, however for £36 for the first year is it not worth it for the service alone?
My boiler has started locking out every few weeks. A few presses of the reset button does the trick but I am considering getting something like this as my money is on it needing looking at over the next year.
For one year if you have one breakdown this would cost you £71+£60(excess)

As others say best to save the money and pay for a breakdown or replace boiler and get one with a 7 year warranty
my boiler broke over christmas and didn't know a plumber to call. Joined BG with a similar deal and booked an appointment the next week and they fixed it. Very happy with them.

Just like Homeserve, they want £50 excess, and their boiler engineer says they won't cover our boiler as it's over 10 years old,so will have our newly taken out policy canelled, possible £400 repair bill sometime in the future or a new one for £1500,so might give this BG one ago and see what they say

Agree with this, worthwhile only if your boiler is of an age that they will repair and not under warranty (between 5 and 7 years old?) and you only look at the year one cost and price in the annual service.

Good place to find a plumber is on the Gas Safe website, just put in your postcode
Condemned my dad's boiler (because of a repair they carried out a few years ago) and then told it could be upto 8 weeks before they could deal with the complaint ... Offered £700 off a new one still wanted £2300 quid to supply and install

Thanks for info
Sorry, not really deal-related but you all seem to know your stuff - joined Homeserve, need to get a flue inspection hatch before they'll cover the boiler - they gave me a month to get one but haven't been able to because of Christmas etc. I bet they will charge me the boiler service fee if I just try and cancel but then why service a boiler he knew from the outset he had to 'condemn' ?! Advice would be appreciated.

But it's effectively NOT working out at £20.50 a month....

You can never bank on Quidco or TCB paying out.
Just join Swinton home emergency cover £9.99 a month. Roof radiators pipes even outside pipes and toilet covered

No Excess

Includes boiler

Agree but with the £100 prepaid MasterCard alone that brings it down to 12.17pcm

Thanks - yep, they won't cover the boiler without a flue inspection hatch or some way to get into the roof to inspect the flue, a legal requirement or something now they said. So he immediately slapped a 'don't use this boiler' type sticker on it (which he said I could remove of course as he was more than confident nothing was wrong with the flue) asked me to sign a waiver and then proceeded with the service and to check other things. The boiler was well within all manufacturer parameters but 'computer said no' because of the lack of a flue inspection - which he knew about straight away

How do you get to £36?
We have BG home care on all our boilers, mainly because we don't want screaming tenants when something goes wrong but also, because it's so difficult trying to find a reliable plumber that can come straight out and fix the issue.

Yes it's a lot of money but it's an insurance policy.

We've had BG out loads over the years and each time they've come the same day and fixed within 2.

Very pleased.

A boiler is expected to last 10-15 years. Cost of replacement including parts and labour between £2000 to £3000.

This "deal" does not make economic or financial sense

Consider that the likelihood is that your boiler would only need servicing/troubleshooting towards the end of its 10/15 year life and you are paying an awful lot of money for perhaps one or 2 visits. That is £3840 for 2 visits!!!

British gas wont touch anything over 15 years old and will start complaining about lack of parts/the age of your boiler once it is 8 years old.

I paid £80 for a local boiler repair person to replace the clogged up parts on my 15 year old boiler and it is as good as new - all that just for a little over the excess on this "deal"

Nope, normal detached house.

Unfortunately it seems that it's all fine and their course of action is all above board - gassaferegister.co.uk/hel…qs/

Had my card but anyone had the quidco cashback yet? Logged a claim and it's been sent to retailer. Been like it for weeks
