True forgot to mention that pop it threw quidco for £40 cashback

£40 cashback + £20 M & S voucher

£4 a month option for boilier breakdown only not servicing you also must agree to £99 excess charge on call outs. So you costs if you have a call out are;

£88 fees
£99 excess

total £187 less £40 cashback if you get it and £20 coupon if you shop at M&S

Total min cost = £127 per year.

£14 a month without it.

Well worth getting, can be an absolute nightmare getting a plumber out.
we've got this and they come out on the same day/ day after.

but can cancel at anytime as long as service not used.

So wait for cashback then cancel.....

sometimes they do the £11:50 p/m offer with '0' excess usually during sept time.

altho its a good service its extremely expensive - have a look at Corgi! their packages are the equal of BG's and much cheaper too.

This is a great deal, £40.40 with TCB which I prefer over Quidco, this and the £20 voucher means you're getting paid £12 to take the basic £4 package, just remember to cancel the auto renew for next year.

I wouldn't touch British Gas engineering with a ten foot pole.

If you want a boiler installed, get 3,4 or 5 quotes - the BG one will be almost exactly TWICE the one you select, even if you exclude the cheapest (if it looks iffy, say).

And their after care is no better. Rip off merchants.

I need a service on my boiler so figured it might be worthwhile signing up for the £9 a month option with the TCB cashback and £20 voucher as will work out around the same cost as getting the plumber out for a service and I'll get a years cover thrown in but am concerned by the icy cold temp of this deal!

You might already be insured with your Home insurance, or you can add, or get home cover a lot cheaper, and be covered for drains and electrics too.

Homserve have a free boiler service in year 1 at the basic £4pm cover. £50 excess.

On what basis 'is their aftercare no better'

If you work out the annual cost of a BG maintenance contract, it'll be twice the price of a local person recommended by word of mouth, and only marginally better. I haven't used BG for several years now, but I used to get engineers who didn't have the parts - and I've heard that still happens; I often had to wait longer than they promise - that still happens, I've been told by several people.

I've also heard that they've started using the insurance company trick of finding an excuse to exclude something from the agreement, so you have a repair bill despite the contract.

I'm not saying these cockups are routine; in general it's a good service - but at the price they charge, it damn well ought to be!

I won't use British Gas after they tried to fleece my elderly mother. Her boiler broke down and she phoned BG for a 'one off ' repair but was told no engineers were available - but if she took out a contract an engineer would be there next day !!!!! Shows contempt BG has for it's customers.

The question is when do I receive my voucher.
