better …better value?https://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/bg-twin-switched-13a-socket-with-2-x-usb-31a-ports-white-699-wickes-cc-2887038

It's the same isn't it and £2 more?

I'm no Martin Lewis, but I would suggest the cheaper identical product (this deal) is the better value.
I think he means because other is 3.1a not just 2.1a

I agree
"British General" ?? never heard of them. Re branded generic Chinese made??

At least, as it is Screwfix selling them, they are unlikely to melt or explode.

OK, a quick bit of googling later.

Made in China, with the implication that it was designed in the UK. BG name has been brought back to replace the "MasterPlug" brand name, if quality is similar to MasterPlug, I would echo someone else and say stick to MK.

Be careful with the sockets with usb points - they seem to be slightly deeper / thicker than normal sockets and you may struggle to get them into your existing wall boxes if they are the shallow ones and you may need to replace them for deeper ones, which can be a pain. Other than that I find them very useful.and these are good quality from screwfix.
2.1a is that inferior to 3.1

Is there any difference?

2.1 is 50% slower at charging newer devices

Being in screwfix almost daily for the last year there are recalls posted in store all the time.

They will sell anything to make profit.

Blame the useless CE mark for that; but at least they post a warning; I had a USB charger explode, reported and returned it to the company selling it - and they carried on selling them........

I see similar notices up in Mothercare, Tesco, Morrisons, Argos.........

The majority of the products in the catalogue are of good quality; I havent had cause to return anything yet.

If you are not thick and stick to buying real stuff, it will be unlikely something will go wrong.

But people will buy cheapest stuff because more amps + less money = more better

I don't mind these items in houses, but no in my houses lol

your getting confused with charging speed and the USB standard 3.1. A USB port with 2.1A (amps) is fine for charging USB devices like tablets and phones. I think the max amps per USB port i have seen is 2.4A.

I think you are getting confused. Another user put up a link to a 3.1A USB socket.

Lots of confusion here. 3.1a shared between 2 usb sockets (other link) or 2.1a shared (this one), I would vote for the increased available amps per port especially if you have Apple devices.

It's not the CE mark that's useless, no more useless than a BS mark or a made in UK mark - it's the forging of it, and the difficulty in enforcing it - cuts in Local Government meaning less Trading Standards officers to enforce checks of it, cuts in HMRC staff meaning less Customs checks to enforce import checking too

Nope your looking at the atlas upside down its in the province of Shropshire, easily done.

As to depth it states retrofit so standard 25mm socket box should be ok.

I have 2 of these exact sockets and found this problem. However I bought a couple of those shelf things that fit behind the socket. Not only are they handy for putting your phone or tablet on whilst charging, they act like a spacer giving you more room to install the socket.

No need to fake a CE mark, go read up on it.

That's the one. I did find I had to get extra long screws as the spacer effect made standard ones not long enough to reach the holes in the wall box. They were pence off ebay.
