Good price.
I linked mine up to Google Home (Google Assistant) with use of my raspberry pi loaded with HassIO.

Note this is IR only and not RF.

sorry.

Basically you need a "bridge" to communicate between your google home and the broadlink rm mini. I use my raspberry pi as a server to bridge the two devices. Loads of youtube videos luckily on how to do this.
It won't work with Alexa out off the box. You'll need something like an Android box and a paid for 3rd party app called RM plugin.

Unfortunately the Alexa skill needed to control it direct hasn't been made available in the UK.

Haha

Thanks man! Good old YouTube has everything

I basically bought it off the back of this video

Having now looked into it in a bit more detail I'm not 100% sure it'll work without a lot of faffing around!
Worth a punt at this price though.

Good price, but the hassle in getting this done!
Definitely looks like it'll be a hassle getting Alex controlling the TV... good price, but the search continues.

Hi fellow Home Assistant user! Would you mind me asking was it out of the box working with HassIO or did you need to create a bridge server?

Also I'm a google home user too, what are the voice commands you use to change channel?

RM plugin has an awful lag! First command will be sent after like 10 seconds. Next will be fine but after couple of minutes you're back to 10 sec lag. Really annoying and frustrating!

Hi

Not out of the box unfortunately. Yes it is currently working with HassIO. A bit of fiddling around..e.g. duckdns, port forwarding on HassIO..etc I may write a guide (watch this space).

I use IFTTT to create the specific voice commands..e.g. "next channel", "previous channel", "volume up"...etc.

when you say not out of the box - I am keen to understand what you'd need to do as my Home theatre is a bit cumbersome atm, I have like 3 remotes and I don't like the harmonys. TiVo, AV receiver, TV.

What's the lag like when changing channels via voice?

When i say not OOTB, i mean you still need to program the commands into HassIO configuration.yaml

I would say voice commands is a "nice to have" and to show off to friends and family, but not quite there yet. There is a 1 second delay before commands are executed.

so do you also use it for like changing channels etc from the HA webpage?
Have a look at thisYoutube video on linking Broadlink with Google Home to voice control TV.
I was going to other it from this site just the other day, the reviews put me off.
Theres not many alternatives to this apart from the Harmony model!, Unless someone can show me something else?

I was originally going to go for a harmony but at a tenner instead of £70 thought I'd give this a shot first

Yeah, why not? Does anyone know? I can't be bothered to use a bridging device. I have the rm pro and it's just sitting there because of the lack of easy integration.

Ditto. I actually bought an Android box too but then rm plugin broke the econtrol integration in its last release (annoyed). It only emulates on/off and I found it difficult to name a command anyway as alexa had many media type reserved words!

Alexa getting no support. Is my alexa show doomed?? I'v unplugged it as its just sitting there draining power and doing nothinh.

I'm assuming this has to be in line of sight of the TV etc for it to work?

My Freesat box and Blu-Ray are below the TV, so I couldn't have this on the same stand as the TV for it to control all 3?

I hope everyone who keeps making these “snooping” comments doesn’t have a smartphone! You’re going on like your some mafia don’s organising a criminal underworld, when the truth is...your only criminal activity is SHOWBOX!

Unless you you live in a forest with no electricity we’re ALL being monitored in one way or another and it’s only going to get more invasive.

Please stop stop with the memes!
Is this in English? I bought the Xiaomi one but it's all in Chinese and so kinda useless to me

Broadlink is now supported on google home, so no need for raspberry pi for simple tasks via the app.

Seems genuine to me, it's all broadlink branded and stuff.
I spent yesterday evening playing with it, i managed to get it working with Alexa using the e-control and RM pluggin lite apps, albeit in a slightly clunky fashion. eg. every tv function is a new device that only recognises on/off. Its fine for "Alexa turn tv on" or "Alexa turn bbc 1 on" but not so great for "Alexa tv volume up on" or "Alexa tv volume down on".
Apparently the Broadlink skill is coming to the UK soon though so hopefully it'll be more useful then.

Is that when it's being released? Fantastic news if it is, I'll hold off spending a fiver on the full version of the RM plugin!
Yes! That’s what’s I heard on the grapevine. This is the last thing I need to fully automate my room as cheap as possible so I’m counting on it.

Alrhough I love smart homes, I don’t want to spend a fortune on it

From Paul Hibbert. He’s very into this stuff and is always chasing up the skill release with Broadlink.

There has been a bit of to and throw between Amazon and Broadlink but hopefully the 13th will be the day.

Ps did you guys order when this deal got posted? I did and still haven’t received mine yet.
