That Samsung printer is USB only and its generic toner cartridges are both more expensive and have a lower capacity.

And lets be honest when you think about the environmental situation making printers which are cheaper/easier to buy new rather than buy cartridges is madness. My company often bought whole new printers rather than the refills- lots of deals you see. It is (odd random thought i know) like these scampi which is caught in Scotland, taken to southeast Asian to be processed, and sent back here and labelled as Scottish. Just for the bottom line...madness.
Thanks for posting. Ordered

Honestly used to hate printers. Never connecting, paper jams, ink drying out. Have had an older version of this model for 5 years and it rarely causes any issues. And usually the culprit of any issue is the terrible Virgin media hub router. Couldn't recommend enough.

Honestly? Why do you think it's called a printer?

It's an easy mistake-a to make-a.
Loads of printers come as all-in-ones these days.
I have a 3 year old Brother mono laser for occasional use still on original cartridge prints from iphone and double sided wish I had moved to laser years ago

Back in 2006 the EU banned printer manufacturers from programming printers to reject generic cartridges. So in theory it should be rare nowadays for it actually to be cheaper to buy a new printer vs refilling/generic cartridges, unless the printer is very new or rare.

I think some of it is just a persistent myth that a new printer is cheaper, combined with the fact that manufacturers (deliberately?) produce so many different cartridges which makes being sure of the right generic cartridge difficult, which causes the issue.

The best thing they could do would be to force manufacturers to say what percentage full the starter cartridges are compared to a full cartridge, so that people could more easily see whether a new printer with "free" cartridges is worthwhile.

Indeed. Something like HP AIO, it's all in the name
I don't find it ugly at all. But then again, I'm a nerd. What do I know about fashion?
At first glance I'm saying.

I have been deliberating whether to subscribe to Printer World monthly, but now you've got me thinking if it's Printer (inc AIO) World monthly I should be opting for

Keen to have your expert opinion.
Can I use this printer without being connected to a PC... ie just from my iPad or iPhone?
This is a great printer! I bought one when Mrs started doing PGCE and did the job well. I paid approx £80 from Currys. Also, the main reason for buying this one over the Samsung one was for the double sided function.

Yes you can! If you're connected on the same WiFi.
Thanks Top.
Closest model I can find which includes RJ45 connection is HL-L2360DN but it costs about £30 more :-(

Bought this printer 3 months ago (for £70) to replace a non wireless …Bought this printer 3 months ago (for £70) to replace a non wireless version of the usual Samsung printer. The one negative of this brother printer is that the starter toner lasted all of 2 months whereas after a year the Samsung starter toner is still around 60% full (according to the software).Apart from that, this is a great printer. I believe I paid £13 for a replacement toner, let's see how long that lasts.

Noticed this in the 'most helpful' negative review on Amazon, which has rather put me off, although I am still tempted. Have you or anyone else with this model had similiar issues?

I have used mainly after-market consumables and have few problems, although it's been increasingly difficult to trick the printer that a full after-market toner is not empty. Otherwise, fast, reliable printing, including double-sided
Update: Dropped to 2 stars because the original perfectly-printing-toner has run out... and built-in software stops the printer dead from printing anything else (when I know the toner printed perfectly last print and still has toner in it). I have had to replace a chip on the original toner to the new (non-brother) aftermarket toner, which now works (for now).

Hmmm. That’s interesting. My original starter printer supposedly ran out, but seriously I don’t print that much and it ran out in a couple of months. Maybe that review is right and it isn’t actually empty. Not sure tbh.
As for the after market toner, I got it off Amazon and it worked straight away no problems. Still showing as full...
Ordered to go along side a HP envy aio

Excellent deal OP... Thanks! Also thank to those pointing out the success they've had in using cheap compatible toners as this really helped me take the plunge on this one.

Ordered although Amazon is saying "Temporarily out of stock". Hopefully shouldn't be long before it's in stock, but either way I'm not in a rush.

Been trying to avoid buying a printer as life is so much more paperless these day l, but every now and then you can't avoid printing and it's such a hassle not having a printer. Hopefully this will last a good few years and not cost much in toner.

To be honest which domestic/small business printer doesn't do this. I don't have this model but another brother laser and can reset the original toner counter with a sequence of button presses.

It said that for me out of stop but it states 5th August - 23rd August. I’m in no hurry anyway
Can anyone recommend generic toner to go with this?

From the spec page here brother.ie/pri…0dw
"Supplies Inbox Toner - 700 pages*, Standard Toner (TN-2410) - 1,200 pages*, High Yield Toner (TN-2420) -3,000 pages*, "

Yes. Did you also read the comments to that review on Amazon?

"I had this same issue but you can easily disable this function. Press 'OK' button to enter menu, scroll to 'Printer' and press OK, then scroll to AutoContinue
and select 'On'. (The default position is off).

The printer will then ignore the 'empty' toner cartridge and continue printing."
Out of stock unfortunately.

Every make of printer has 3rd party cartridges that work.

Maybe I got unlucky then.

I bought 2 different types of non epson black cartridges on Amazon for my cheap small wireless epson printer.

And each time the printer kept not printing and would display messages warning me about not using non epson ink. They would come up in between each print making it useless as a wireless printer because you had to click a button saying the I accept the warning about 3rd party.
Order at the lower price but on back order. Fingers crossed.
Mine arrived this morning!

Can confirm some things:

1) IT'S WIRELESS.

2) IT'S EASY TO PRINT FROM ANY DEVICE ON YOUR NETWORK (ANDROID/APPLE PHONES)

3) HOLY MOLY IT'S QUICK. I THOUGHT IT WAS SPOOLING THE PAPER AT FIRST. NOPE! IF YOU'RE USED TO INKJETS YOU'RE IN FOR A TREAT

Haven't tried double-sided printing etc yet. Will update when I have. So far so good. As in best printer I've ever had. Bargain.
Any comparable colour brother laser printers?
Just what I was looking for and it's all gone! Anybody got any other recommendations?

If you’re looking for a wireless laser like this, you could have a look at the Samsung M2026W at John Lewis - £49.99 after £20 cashback from HP (bizarrely) until the end of the month Same price elsewhere but you get the two-year guarantee from JL.
