Brother HL-L8250CDN Duplex Network Laser Printer £134.40 delivered @ Printerbase , £84.40 after Cashback

I've been waiting for this printer to come back up on the Brother cashback deals. I bought one of these back in Jan 2015, but wanted another as a spare for the included cartridges and machine/drum in case mine went wrong.

It's a great printer, very high up on the list of refillable toners, and a bargain at £84.40. Price is £134.40 from Printerbase, it's same price on Amazon which *should* be okay for cashback, but as it was the same price direct I thought I wouldn't risk it.

More info in first comment.

Here is a link to an old thread with some comments, but I thought I'd give you mine after a year or so of use:

hotukdeals.com/visit?t=2423931&hukdm=353&d=http%3A%2F%2Fhttps://www.hotukdeals.com%2Fdeals%2Fnetworked-duplex-brother-hl-l8250cdn-colour-laser-printer-91-17-after-cashback-191-2110623%3F

First off - it's BIG, and heavy, so bare that in mind if you've not got a lot of space.

It's full colour, networked (ethernet) and can be used with Airprint etc. You can plug it into your router, or through Homeplugs+router to make wireless which is how I use it.

Print quality is good - but don't expect colour photo quality. It was my first laser printer so I expected better, but I don't really use it for high quality colour anyway as it's mainly a business printer.

The biggest draw for it is that it is that the starter cartridges can be very easily adapted (by way of a simple gear added) to give full blown toners. So instead of getting <1000 pages per toner, you can get around 2500-3500 or so. And after that, it's really easy to refill. Here is a link: urefilltoner.co.uk/Pro…spx?manufacturer=Brother&productCode=BRL8250KITB&price=17.50&description=Black+starter+kit+(everything+you+need+for+first+refill)&engine=BR8250&printer=HL-L8250cdn%2c+L8350cdw&id=2710

I've reset all cartridges a couple of times and refilled them too and done around 7000 prints on mine.

Terms and conditions for £50 cashback here: http://www.brother.co.uk/~/media/Pdf/BUK/Promotion%20Ts%20and%20Cs/Q1%2016-17/Brother%20Colour%20Laser%20End%20User%20Promotion%201st%20Apr%20-%2030th%20April%202016.pdf

After you purchase, you register on Brother website, enter serial number, select model, and use the relevant code in the link above (Q1C50) then email/post invoice off.

Last year I think there was a mis-match between some sellers and the cashback of £100, so it was a super bargain price of about £44 after cashback, but I don't think it will hit that again, still worth it at £84 if you need a workhorse printer.
Good printer but it's huge

How many prints do you think you get out of the cartridges it comes with from new? Thanks:-))
Can't see any refill on eBay. Is it available only on urefilltoner?

Around 1000 out of the box, add the reset gear and you get a standard cartridge - on my printing I got around 2500 before refilling.
£132.90 @ box.co.uk

Obviously someone needs to verify that it's UK stock.

Also, check stock. I originally tried to buy this printer from Viking as I had a code, but after 9 days of toing and froing it turns out their dropshipper didn't actually have any stock of this printer and wouldn't deliver until May. A lot of companies drop ship - and wonder if box.co.uk are the same as they say 20+ in stock but 0 in store.

You'll need to be invoiced in April to get cashback.

The code names for these toners make it difficult to find for this printer. I bought the black kit with gears from urefilltoner (it really is a good kit, lots of thought put in), but I ended up getting some from toner from the US from this supplier:

ebay.co.uk/itm…162?hash=item339d695d42:g:d94AAOSw-W5U1ez2

about £63 delivered for decent quantity of toner.

Wow $45 postage, was that quick by courier or just standard mail. I presume you didn't have to pay duties etc?

Ah, I hadn't noticed the postage had gone up - it was £13 when I purchased, which was pretty reasonable.

Not sure, when I purchased it at £13 postage it was USPS and took about 10 days. No customs paid, could just have been lucky. Not sure it's good value at £49+$45, probably worth searching elsewhere.

Save yourself a fortune and don't bother buying the white cartridge! :-)

Sadly the offer has now expired and the price has changed to £170 inclusive. Dammit, I shouldn't have dithered for so long.
I did look to buy from Amazon but when I spoke to brother about the company on there, Brother stated that they do not allow cashback due to the company being based in Ireland. They also warned about using Amazon at all as many of the companies by German models and these are not applicable for cashback.

I did find printer bass as a supplier on Amazon at the cheaper price that is no longer available on their website. I rang printer base about this and they eventually agreed to price match. So we got there in the end.

Well, box finally got back to me and confirmed it was UK stock..... Just in time for their price increase.
Oh well, I'm sure another opportunity to buy a spare will crop up before mine fails.

I think you are safe buying it from Printerbase direct from Amazon too. For reference, you couldn't buy off Luzern as they are sourced from Germany. I don't know about Amazon themselves, you'd hope it was UK stock but they also might source from Europe - I suppose you could buy and return, but could be costly if they charge for "change of mind" as it's heavy.
Sorely tempted to go for the Amazon warehousedeals offer "Used - Good" @ £115.92.

Cashback would probably be fine...... but just can't bring myself to risk it.

I doubt Amazon would give free returns for "it wasn't eligible for cashback"
Edited by: "TehJumpingJawa" 18th Apr 2016

tempted to grab this myself have amazon credit/discount so would be encouraged to 'risk it' their : noticed that its pretty much the exact same companys on amazon as are selling separate ( like printerbase ) so to be fair theirs as much a chance of getting non-exact-uk-stock from their actual website just as much as their amazon page...

Printerbase sell the same printer on their amazon marketplace, I have emailed and asked them if cashback could be claimed if purchased from their amazon marketplace and they said yes.

So printer arrived and all set up. Thought I had it working perfectly, but when I print duple from Google docs the second page prints upside down anyone got any ideas as to what I am doing wrong.
I bought the warehouse deal I mentioned above, and the serial number is "E?J??????" (where '?' is 0-9), and it's not recognized by Brother's website
So this device has either already been registered, or it isn't UK stock.

My other 8250 (which is UK, and was registered successfully many months ago) has a serial number of the form "G?J??????"

I've contacted Brother to get some clarification, but in the meantime can someone else who has successfully registered their device(s) on Brother's site confirm that the 1st letter of a genuine UK device begins with a 'G' ?

Mine starts E7 from Printerbase, but you enter the back end of the code, which in my case is L5J??????

I would hazard a guess it's been registered and sent back - I did wonder on that when I first saw the warehouse used one.
Edited by: "vaugi" 20th Apr 2016
Ah ok, cheers.
Well, pending what Brother say, it'll be going back.

Shouldn't be a problem, as Amazon have actually mis-advertised it as "Item is in original packaging" when it's actually a generic brown box, not the original Brother box. (hence there was no product serial number on the box exterior)

:edit:

Brother got back to me; from the serial they established the printer was not UK stock, but had been sourced from ROI. =/
So although it hadn't been previously registered, it was ineligible for the cashback.

So yeah, don't trust Amazon warehouse deals to supply UK stock.
Makes you wonder if 'new' Amazon.co.uk stock can originate from outside the UK too.

Not sure exactly as I don't use Google docs, but sometime when you select two-sided you have the option of short side binding and long side binding, which might be the answer? If you've selected short side binding then it will be upside down as though you were binding into a flip notebook.

Thanks for coming back to me I do have it as short edge, so will change it to long edge to see if that fixes it.
You can get it from Rakuten here with free delivery it's £92 but with points it may work out cheaper for some.

I phoned Brother and they said don't buy it from Amazon direct because its not always UK stock. Other UK sellers on Amazon should be fine.
