Very little stock around, used mainly by the elderly especially the ones that struggle with mobile phones.Great price in my opinion. (edited)

Used mainly by the elderly? Which survey did you get that from?

People who either choose to or can’t use a mobile phone.

If you're 'gone optical', your old landline number might still be there for you. Certainly for Sky, there is a specific socket to plug these phones into on the router...rather than dedicated wall socket, as per pre-optical (analogue) landline.

Note that, once converted to 'optical', it is now a digital signal, and now at the mercy of your internet remaining up.

As I really am that old...one good thing about having a landline, and if you had a handset not powered by the mains socket (literally powered by the phoneline connection) you could still make calls during a power cut. Not such an issue now, as most have mobiles but, at the time, it might literally have been a life saver.

Still useful to have DECT phones scattered about the house fed from a 4G router with phone outlet.

Does anyone know how good the sound quality/volume is? Need to purchase a set for elderly parents.

I also saw the Panasonic set but reviews suggest it’s not great for volume

I'm wanting to know the same, for the same reasons. Too many reviews saying "amazing sound" followed by "rubbish sound quality" on all these devices. I think I may buy from Amazon (not necessarily this item) because you can return.

Will these work when plugged into one of these new modems with these green slot for phones.

I'm conscious of the chatter about BT getting rid of PSTN and ISDN - of which I know next to nothing and can't find anything online geared towards a home user.

In the olden days during a power cut land-line phones still worked! These days were completely cut off. Sometimes a leap forwards is a step back. Although granted. These phones wouldn't work in a power cut either.
