BT8500 Home Phone with Enhanced Call Blocker (Includes BT's Call Guardian to Block up to 100 per cent of Nuisance Calls)

The BT8500 DECT home phone puts you back in control by allowing you to choose the calls you want to take and those you want to block. Call Guardian means that any caller not on your contact list or already blocked is required to announce their name prior to getting through, allowing you to choose which calls to accept or reject.

Quality Built-in

Designed in UK, the BT8500 has an enhanced design that makes this phone an addition to any room whilst only taking up less space. The phone also offers you a 1.8 inch full-graphic seven-line easy-to-read colour screen - see instantly how many voice messages, missed calls or text messages you have. The screen has also been designed to be large enough for easy text messaging. The BT8500 has enhanced sound quality, meaning you won't miss a word of your calls or messages. The durable, backlit buttons are easy to see any time of day.

Easy to Use

With the BT8500 you can save up to 200 contacts. All these contacts are automatically copied to all of your handsets. You can also see a list of who's called you, who has left a voice message, and then choose which message to listen to first. This phone also comes with outgoing call control, allowing you to prevent any surprises on your bill by PIN protecting calls to Mobile, International, Premium Rate numbers, or even all outgoing calls. This can also be useful for elderly relatives who may generate large call costs unknowingly. Never miss a call with the call waiting feature - the BT8500's screen shows you who's trying to get through and, at the press of a button, you can switch to the other call or reject it. We've also made it easy to divert calls to your mobile or other numbers when you are away from home. If you want to have a three way call the BT8500 helps you get it set up in a few simple steps.

Nice. Just looking for some. Cheers OP.
These stop unwanted calls dead! I have a set. Brilliant.
100% recommendation for these, they simply do what it says on the box. One of the best buys I've ever made.
You don't realise how good these are, until you get them.

Not a single unwanted call since I got them over a year ago, before I was inundated with junk calls and used to get 4-5 every day.

Enhanced Call Blocking Features
Block by number, type or Do not Disturb. You can block 1000 individual numbers and you can choose the type of calls you want to block such as mobile, international, withheld, unknown or payphone numbers. You can even block numbers by area code or suffix. For those times when you just want some peace and quiet, switch on Do Not Disturb so that your phone won't ring or light up. If you want key friends and family to still get through they can do, by tagging them as VIPs in your address book.

I've got the quad set of this phone, it's great and you can set up how you want to deal with the various call types

I use mine on my Virgin and have had no issues whatsoever

Yes you can. I've not had a single unwanted call since getting mine a couple of months ago.
I got my grandparents these, they are great but they have acedently blocked my wife's mobile number.

With any unknown number and you can get the phone to talk to them first and then the phone tells you who is calling so you can decide to answer our hang up.
a week ago I bought in asda BT8600 £35
I've got the newer 8600 which is much the same.

Brilliant. No more cold calls since we set it up. Highly recommended.
Heartily recommended though you still get the odd chancer trying to bypass by offering a false name or business. Something that works unlike the useless TPS...
dont you also have to pay extra to your provider for call id? e.g. £2.25 per month with VM

Are you sure it was an accident?!

Yes, you can, but only effectively blocks calls if you have caller ID, essential for proper operation with these. We have a virgin line, managed to get caller ID for free out of Virgin after complaining we were getting so many nuisance calls, and have had a twin pack of these now for the past 8 months and it has blocked all nuisance calls.

Usually, we managed to complain about nuisance calls and get it for free.

How good are these? I have a current BT Verve set that has had its issues. But what puts me off, is the wide availability of the refurbs of this and the very very new 8600 already.
Got the twin set of these from Amazon Warehouse (VG Condition) in December for £18.77

Ours have been just perfect, we got refurbs ourselves, as did my parents....my parents had a problem after 1 week with the display on one of theirs which was replaced.....I always assume the wide availabilty of 'refurbs' are ex-display or customer returns of those not realising that caller ID is a necessity for the call blocking operation.
These really do stop nuisance calls but no one ever phones me on my landline any more because of the screening at the start of the call. At least it's forced my mum to start using her mobile to phone me!

I'm with virgin and have these and confirm they work; however virgin charge you £2 a month for caller ID.

Only downside is withheld numbers, my work phone is withheld by default and whenever I call the house I have to speak to a robot. Annoying as hell and no way to resolve it
Used these phones during BT's research and development process, absolute brilliant kills all unwanted and nuisance calls.

Add them to the caller list and they get straight through.
Bought these on offer for £25 at Sainsbury's best phones out there in my opinion.

When I was with virgin I was paying for caller ID then I found out my neighbour was getting their's for free, I called up to complain and they said depending on geographical location some costumes get it for free, when I told them someone in my street was getting it for free they added a discount to my account and refunded what I had paid. Might be worth calling and and asking them. Seems a bit unfair some pay and some don't.
sound quality isn't a patch on panasonic or Siemens but the call blocker does.work not had any since installing mine

Blocks all calls including with held numbers your personal PA
Top set of phones. I got mine dirt cheap from Amazon Warehouse and have recommended them to lots of people.

The twin set refurbs from Telephones Online (via Amazon) are only £32.99 and the set I got from them for my parents was "as new". Way better than the BT4500 which they replaced.
Had to take out BT Caller ID Display at £1.75 / month to get peace. With these phones also purchased maybe now i'll get a full days sleep!!
These are brilliant but I do feel for all the good folk who can't sell me all there fantastic goods and services any more.

Well they do a good job of blocking junk calls, but the software on the phone is poorly designed and rather buggy (though maybe it's been fixed since I bought mine).

These phones are bloody awful! We bought them directly from BT , okay for a few months then they don't work! The facility on them to block callers is fab but the battery life is pants!
