BT have a basic low cost phone package for people receiving certain benefits.

BT unsurprisingly dont promote this deal so I am posting it so people who qualify for BT basic package are in the know.

Just so people know Offcom are investigating BT's phone/broadband 'deal' for people on certain benefits/pensions as they fail to make it clear that this is only for 12 months max and then it reverts to the cheapest phone line/broadband price.

Get a BT Basic application form by calling us on 0800 800 864 (8am to 6pm Mondays to Fridays). You must be the named BT account holder to apply.

Thank you. I was on the live chat with them there and they are going to call my mum direct on Monday morning (we will see!)
Thanks!

This is just the line rental & it's a great offer for those who make few calls but need the security of a home phone. It's not just 12 months as long as your siuation does not change.

Tried to get this for my mum but they wanted £50 for line connection.

May look at this for my mum

My dad has been on it for years and don't think its a 12 month contract.

It’s not. The linked article isn’t about BT Basic. You can have basic (not fibre) broadband with it, bringimg the monthly price to £9.95

All providers jump after the contract ends its not sneaky either renew or get out as you would be free to leave. That article has nothing to do with BT Basic. My mum has been on it for two years. There is no contract. Please engage brain before talking about something complely irrelevant.

My mum currently has a regular line rental + 12GB ADSL BB + tv package. She's probably eligible for Basic - is the TV package an option with BT Basic + Broadband ?

You don't say how much she is paying? Remember this is people on some kind of benefit not just old people. If your mum has a full pension she will not get this even if its just the state pension.

My mum gets pension credit because she took years out for child rearing. So she never had the full national insurance allowance.

Don't think TV pcakge is an option that would be considered a luxery
