BT broadband price rises - if you have a wife or someone else then sign up to a new deal BT Broadband £90 through TCB and £100 master card

Right been talking on the BT price rise forum and it looks like if BT will not give you a retention deal then simply sign up to BT again in your wifes name. You can leave penalty free and you will get the £100 card and £90 if you go through TCB. Making it £19.43 for broadband. But a new setup fee adding another 55.5p but still making it £19.98 much cheaper then £31.50 i've been offered to stop the price rise

I'm going to do this and let people know how it goes no way my paying £31.50 for a new 18 month contract. It says new customers only so your wife/gf/son is a new customer.

Thanks to this thread hotukdeals.com/dea…991 and thanks to deeperthought who said he'd successfully transfered to his wife same surname and bagged the mastercard and TCB.

Surely this has to better than retentions who will offer no tcb and card and you'll be lucky to keep your contract on the same price. For me thats £31.50 a month

Update: Retentions offered me £26.99 including BT sport

Just did this yesterday, 10 day wait for switch on. Left a day in between just to not confuse things.

Now I need to try and put my mobile sim only deal on this account to get the £5 discount. Think this might be a little trickier.

But i don't think thats the case you just simply sign up to BT again as if you were moving to a new provider.

however you use your wifes/gf names

So you were not disconnected and just wait for a new number? I want to bag the cards as it makes it much better than retentions

you can.. see link it was a customer services manager that actually told me how to do just that back in september. i was disconnected for all of 20mins lol edit.. i also could have had my old number back (they have to issue you a number one cause the old account still has old one until the day it ends) i just chose not to bother in the end..

I will be disconnected for 1 day. I can live with that. I didn't want disconnection day and switch on day to be the same to avoid confussion there end.

i wasn't but this is something you would need to check with cs as each account is different and it depends on the conditions your leaving under i would imagine.. but the same applies no matter who's name you put it you still get a final bill for your own old account... you also need to make sure you don't get charged a connection fee either .. i explained all this in the thread i linked ..

My old account has 9 months left but they sent me an email to leave penalty free do i need to ring BT to say i'm leaving my contract but my wife is taking up a new contract

Don't you have a 30 days notice period ? Even if you ask for cancellation?

yes you will need to cancel your contract by contacting them.. you don't need to tell them who is taking out a new one or if you intend moving to someone else either.... my advice to you all is talk it through with customer services they are legally obliged to give you the correct information. As i said i took a new account out in my own name.. it dont matter who's name it goes under but it is important you make sure you have cleared it with customer services that you don't get charged a fees for leaving and things like the notice you need to give etc and when you pick a new deal make sure it has no hidden one off reconnection fees either or at least ones you are happy to pay. (do have a read of my thread it answers many questions people asked.)

good luck everyone .. it can be done... just make sure you do it right for you...

I have done this in the past. They raised the prices and so could leave penalty free. I asked for a retention deal and they couldn't offer any. They then suggested that I leave and then sign back up as a new customer to get the new customer deals!! It sounds crazy but it's true. It's not like sky where you are classed as a existing customer for 12 months.

Don't mind it being under my wife's names but my email ( new email not the same one I currently have for BT) can also have the direct debit under my name my current direct debit. I also want to keep my landlines number. So how would I go about signing up a new deal with the above?

as long as you have a bt account at your address you get the discount.. if they try remove the discount just draw their attention to the new account... all my details the same as before including email i use, the log in details i use... the only difference is have two account numbers..

don't you think you really should have actually done this for yourself so you could have answered everyone's questions before posting it as a deal....anyway im unsubscribing now... i think ive done enough to try help

I have a BT mobile phone contract through them, as I'm on BT broadband I get £5 discount. Once I cancel an setup a new BT contract in my wife's name can I then transfer the phone contract onto it?

No - the minute the broadband disappears off the account the BT Mobile rental will go back to its full price

As your mobile discount is connected to your broadband, and broadband is being cancelled due to the price hike surely you can also cancel your mobiles

I realise that, but the argument would be the mobile would not be cancelled if the broadband price has not been increased..

you wouldnt be allowed to cancel the mobile unless it was out of contract as the price of it isnt going up you are only losing the discount you gained by having broadband - terms and conditions will cover it

my contract has ended already so do i have to phone them or can i do it online? just had a look online they charge a connection fee

Can I keep my by mobile discount? If yes how do I do so? I have got 3 sims so don't want to risk losing it.

That i don't know but as its the household then it shouldn't be taken of

Just phoned them to cancel, currently paying £33.49, they said it would cost me £34.99 for the next 18 months. Needless to say I cancelled. Even mentioned the deal on uswitch which offered it for £29.99. They then said that was for standard broadband and not infinity which it clearly wasn't. Why do they lie so much? Anyway, looking for new provider now.

So, there are compensations for having a wife after all.

Master.G32 m ago

So, there are compensations for having a wife after all.

Don't do it mate, might save some on your BT, but overall cost will be just short of donating your soul.

Is there any broadband company where you don’t have to have a telephone service as I never use the landline?

i went to sky yesterday BT are ****takers the only thing is the router they use is very good ... i am moving to sky i have had them before and never had a problem i am worried about their router but i will see how good it is ..
