If we sign up now, will they implement a price increase in April?
    plunet's avatar
But if you push the installation date into April, that will mean you go live beyond the price increase date so in theory you would have most of the first 12 months at the headline price a s hence minimise the impact of price increases on your overall cost....

I've now got full fibre in the street and Voda are offering £30/900rate for 24 months.
I can't get any prices from BT website and rang them Friday to see when there going live as my BT contract ranout last month.

Don't want to leave BT as sim prices will rise and I will be hit elsewhere

Vodafone offer FTTP via multiple FTTP backbones providers - 1 is Openreach while the second is via CityFibre. So it looks like in your area, CityFibre have built an FTTP backbone and Vodafone is offering it's services over that. Hence BT is a no show currently for FTTP in your area as all its services are based on Openreach technology.
In a year or two, Openreach will probably build their own FTTP network in your area so you'll have a choice of FTTP connections.
Many areas will have multiple competing FTTP back bone providers soon. My area currently has 2 (Openreach and CityFibre) and some areas have even more. It is a competitive business.

Every interaction I have had with this company ends up with them charging me more than was agreed and leading me to spend hours having to go through the resolution channels. They always end up apologising but I have wasted so much time fixing stuff that should never have gone wrong in the first place. It happens too often to be bad luck and I'm beginning to suspect there is a deliberate policy to see what they can get away with. Do not trust.
    Searching4deals1234's avatar
Yeah I’ve had the same. I was swapped contract 3 times once just to add something and every time they did it wrong the last time they doubled my price. In the end it took a while and they give me what I originally asked for for next to nothing.
It just shouldn’t have been that difficult

Not sure if anyone else has said this but if you sign upto a deal before march you will get the price rise this April. Only deals signed upto on March 1st or later won't go up....and funnily enough the deals on BT website all expire at midnight on February 28! As I was going to sign up but il wait till march now and see what are the best offers. As I need broadband with TV with BT or sky preference as they have TV over WiFi now
    Waynej's avatar
I have seen this mentioned elsewhere, be interesting to see if it actually works in the end.

Do you have any idea how much the price rise is actually going to be? Currently paying £39.99 for 500Mb, I’m anticipating it’ll jump up about £5-6. Be a good idea to have a grasp on the pricing when comparing  how good/bad the offers may be in March.

I would rather eat my dog's poo than ever go with BT again.

    Why??
  6. jimbo001's avatar
BT fibre availability is sorry surprisingly poor compared to virgin
    harrythefish's avatar
Exactly. Deals like this should put a postcode checker link front and centre so non-eligible people don't waste time reading further. We are due to get FTTP in maybe 2027. This might as well be called a local deal.

Funnily enough an independent fibre start-up rolled out a huge rural area with FTTP a couple of years ago, starting about 500m from here.
  7. xPabloz's avatar
You can cancel contract within 30 days of price increase without paying termination fee
    plunet's avatar
This is no longer true, when the price increases were not written into the contract you could use a price rise to exit the contract. But as the price rises are now being clearly signposted you can't exit the contract penalty free unless OFCOM decide to change the rules
  8. Chrispyphillips's avatar
Anyone got any ideas why this is £43.99 for the FF500 in some areas (MINE) but some areas get the better deal of £30.99? Makes no sense to me. Technical reasoning?
    Waynej's avatar
Likely factor is competition. In the towns and cities where BT’s FTTP Openreach network has no rivals then they can get away with charging more.

I’ve recently upgraded to Full Fibre 900 at £44.99mth and avoided the price rise this year too. It’s OK, I’m just happy that I can get FTTP at all - though I would have preferred a somewhat lower price.
  9. Max-Power's avatar
Vodafone have their 500mb via USwitch with a voucher, better deal. I'm looking at that potentially after all the price increases.
    Rhakio's avatar
Vodafone show me 500mb for 30, than they offer 200, so really depends if youre lucky. In my place i cant get anything more than 200 but bf offer 900 without any problems

What is BTs promised speeds tho, because with VM they tend to exceed their speeds promised.

Im on full fibre 100 and I usually get 140-150 mbps but sometimes it goes up to 160mbps. It basically never goes below the stay fast guarantee.
  11. COMARANTZ's avatar
You can get FFTP BROADBAND, LANDLINE, VOIP DIGITAL PHONE with ALEXA, and UNLIMITED PHONE CALLS, all for only £20, but the package is only available for those on a low income. Obviously not this speed, but this might be a useful optional upgrade if it was available.
    Katt667351's avatar
    Is this with bt?

Try YouFibre, £25+ a month 900mb. No price increase for the term of your contract.
    pull's avatar
Not available in my area.. any nationwide providers with similar offers and no contract increases?
  13. rimz790's avatar
I am with Community Fibre and have been using their 900mb package for £27 per month. How are companies like BT not being able to give such low prices to compete with the likes of CF?

Guess they're able to charge these kinds of prices if they're the only ones who are providing fttp in that specific area and potential customers will have to go for it at the higher price points...

Luckily I have Hyperoptic also available in my block of flats, but sofar CF's pricing has been the best.
    TinplateGeek's avatar
BT are price controlled by OFCOM so have a floor on their pricing. No other company has such a limitation so BT are hindered by law. Meanwhile all the other providers can make massive losses if they choice to and currently most of them are.
They also use the courts to try and force OFCOM to put up BT prices so the so called alternative providers are more than happy to make those people who can only get broadband via BT Openreach pay more.

Giganet is hands down my go to when it comes to Full Fibre, no price increases and rolling monthly contract...
    Kermatt's avatar
£32 per month for 150Mbps. And an activation fee of £55 stings.

I'm paying £17.99 to Hyperoptic with no activation fee for 150/150 (actually 168/230). But as part of the 24 month deal it effectively works out at £12 per month thanks to a prepaid Mastercard (used it to put a credit onto my Hyperoptic account) and TCB. I guess there will be inflationary price rises (not heard about it yet though) but realistically this demonstrates to others in this thread that you save a lot of money by going on a contract with some suppliers.

No price rise until March 2024 ? Did u call them to check this ?
  16. No1_Dave's avatar
Since this deal was posted on 26th Feb, BT has updated their website to say "no price rise till Mar 2024".

Can anybody who signed up to this 500mb for 30.99 deal since the BT website update, confirm that they definitely got this speed for this price? and also got email confirmation of no price rise till Mar 2024? (edited)
    Ts1899's avatar
I got a text confirming no price rise till 2024 on this deal

Honestly, 24 month contracts should be banned
    j__k's avatar
100% agree - you wouldn't sign a house rental for more than 12, why should we sign for their broadband? They already have the lines in place, there's zero investment from them to take on a new customer.

  20. Gee123's avatar
My contract has a while yet left on it " August " but after that I'm downgrading from 900mb it's too much. Will probably get the 500 unless the 100 drops down abit.
Basically there's no point of having the highest mb. BT hub wireless gets you around 250mb, a wired connection 900mb you can download games faster that's it. Doesn't make gaming any better as that's all about ping.

I was offered 500 for £30.99 before Xmas to stop me moving to Sky then the contract came through as full fibre 100 !
    I wouldn't trust BT anymore.
Resulting in 8 hours of phonecalls & 2 broadband contracts running at the same time.
A complete nightmare to get a refund too, robbing a bank would be easier.
    Shocking customer service
    iby2012's avatar
yeah, BT are terrible. Trying to sell my boss a Samsung A13, 3 new landlines, a 500MB sim and charging £8 per person working there. oh we cant adjust the package its what we offer. like lol, no, and then get daily emails of please sign this terrible deal we have sent you. They are awful.

Oh and once the contract expired the £27/month contract which they were charging £37/month for turned into £70 and i only noticed a year later, dad never even realised it went up. terrible people.

Go to Zen. It costs more, but over the length of the contract it actually works out less. In april I'll be paying £72 a month. Zen locks theirs at 55, it never goes up.
    Waka69's avatar
Zen charge 40 pm with no price increases
  24. Amos91's avatar
Funny how BT increase the price for existing customers (inflation & CPI), citing that their costs are increasing bla bla. Yet the new customer pricing is as before the price increase.
    Soni84's avatar
they do it as a "new customer discount". So they basically give new customers preferential treatment. If you call this out, they deny it and they say they treat all customers equally. bs.
  25. roythomas's avatar
My current BT contact has run out (Halo 1) and they’re desperately trying to push into a 2 year contract, where I am locked into it and they’re not - the price WILL go up in March by inflation plus 3.9% and again March 2024. Total money grabbing b*******

Zen is coming up at £55 per month for me, and the BT deal is £27.49 for 5 months then £55 (edited)
    jazid's avatar
Did that include the BT future price rises ?
  29. Mr.No's avatar
Another vote for Zen who are a proper ISP.

I had my FTTP with BT, the service was shocking and then I was hit with the mid contract price hike.

I would never return to BT.
    DanielJB's avatar
Our sky is coming to an end for full fibre 500mbps. Want to raise it above £50. Is it worth us looking at Zen? I’ve never heard of them before now
  30. ukbill69's avatar
Makes me laugh that they dont think people need high upload speeds. On 600mb up and 600mb down full fibre with gigaclear, brilliant.
    duggie1982's avatar
Genuine question here in case i am missing something, high upload speed would be good with people working with large files on computers etc, is there any other need for it?

  32. Waynej's avatar
b t.com/mybt Goto manage Your Products > Broadband, and just below the details of your current Broadband package you should see an Upgrade button. Press this and you should see some offers to upgrade or renew current contract.

If nothing looks appealing you can try haggling on the web chat or call them. If you have the freedom to leave them soon they may well do you a good offer to keep your custom.

I’d eye up the current offers at EE for new customers too, these are basically still BT, but should give you a reasonable idea of what to expect offer wise. (edited)

    jjames87's avatar
Don't do it. It'll just go up again in April. Go elsewhere.
  35. LazyDonkey's avatar
Price goes up by 14.1% end of March, if you take out a new contract in February. Defer the start point to the 1st and you won’t get stung…..otherwise wait for the March offers.
    Sewerprat's avatar
You will still get the increased price, even if you delay installation until April.
  36. chrisuk1's avatar
    EE price match this ?
    plunet's avatar
As EE is BT, they would be price matching themselves.
  37. professor78's avatar
So wish VM did better upload, that's why can always get it cheaper I guess.
    DarrylJohn's avatar
It's fine enough for majority, so that'll likely be why!

My ISP line is symmetrical, but have no need for it, its just already included.
  38. Username50's avatar
Order march 1st and it won't go up in April. All the major providers have a price increase. If you go to dodgy ones like zen or shell good luck.
    redworf's avatar
Zen have been rock solid for me. No complaints at all
  39. irradiated's avatar
and yet some pay BT nearly as much for speeds upto 75Mb, perhaps if BT charged per Mb then pricing would be fairer
