Good option If you are looking for a freeview PVR with two tuners to replace Virgin/Sky etc... No requirement to have a BT contract. These work fine on Freeview (I have one myself). Manufactured by Humax

These sell for around £100 on ebay used. So £60 retail with a 24mth warranty seems a good deal to me. CEX also sell them at A grade for £65 but currently no stock

HDMI 2.0, HDCP 2.2, 4K, Dolby Atmos,

fast user friendly interface with Youview Guide gives 7 day rollback with instant launch of catchup programmes from ITV/BBC/CH4/Ch5 catchup apps. Also has thumbnailed recordings.

1Tb Hard drive

NetFlix/UKTV Play/NowTV apps built in.

Two tuners allows recording from two channels simultaneously (If your using recording on your TV most only have a single tuner)

4k Output with Dolby Atmos, yes I know there are no 4k Freeview boradcasts at the moment but at least you are ready if they ever appear! Also allows Netflix at 4k

Is there much point when you can’t stream 4k content? I guess you can record, pause and rewind live tv still.

Heated, total bargain, you could easily pay as much for the old 500gb version!

Netflix is 4k.

As I said in the description....there is no 4K freeview broadcasts yet, If you are looking to buy a PVR now at least this one is 4k ready.

And yes you can pause/rewind live Tv and also record another show at the same time unlike most non high end TV's that only have a single tuner.

Also If you have BT Broadband (which I don't!) you can get BT Sport in 4k

great deal, though OOS online and only 1 left in Sutton

shame

BTW heat has been added, as at least one is available instore

It's a great box, much quicker than their old stuff. 4K BT Sports (yes you need the BT package) looks great and the Dolby Atmos sounds brilliant when watching the football.
Looking to switch to Sky currently but can't really justify a £170 downpayment (for 2 mini boxes) and then £90 a month for the sports.

looks like its gone out of stock already, worth keeping an eye out though as they come in and out of stock all the time

Do the Now TV movies and entertainment live channels work on these boxes?

Yes it has the NowTV app built in. Just add your NowTV account details and view anything you subscribe to as you would on any other device

Ahh of course, I forgot about Netflix!
Still a good deal just wanted to be the guy that questioned it.

In that case these sound better than Now TVs own smart boxes (with the proper epg/ recording and 4k). Shame ive just bought a new one but will bear this in mind when upgrading. Thanks.

I got mine online from cex a while ago as new included was everything mint remote £60 del well £48 after buying £60 of cex vouchers with the usual 20% discount

grade b is £55 del
looks like prices gone up was £60 grade a when I got mine

Are there already plans for 4k terrestrial broadcasting? If so, is this capable? I thought the only 4k would be through streaming? I have one already, so I'm curious as to its future abilities.

No, you can only access the movies library on it, no other passes and no live channels.

We have the standard one of these boxes and they only support the Now Tv Movies.

Are you sure it does Now Tv entertainment?
because our standard box doesn't

Youview boxes are only allowed to have NowTV Movies (i.e. on demand content, not live channel broadcasting through an app).

Is this box any faster than the regular BT HD Freeview box?

My folks have the standard box, it does feel a bit more sluggish in comparison to my UHD one.

I'd ignore the bit about being ready for 4K broadcasts. 4K freeview broadcasts would probably use the DVB-UHDTV standards, which I've never heard of this BT box supporting, nor any other kit at UK retail, nor any plans to start using DVB-UHDTV in the UK, or any 4K Freeview plans at all.
The closest thing I've seen is the possibility of Freeview Play having 4K channels, but over broadband rather than over the air.

Now we no longer have BT Broadband so no 4K BT channels, I've got this box set to output 1080p. If your 4K TV has a half-decent upscaler, and it's own Netflix app anyway, I'd recommend you do the same, as the upscaler in this box is crap and 1080 channels look much nicer having the TV take a 1080p input and upscaling itself, than being output at 4k by the BT Youview box.

Mine has NowTV but it's always just been for Movies on the BT Box for some strange licencing reason.

Does this take satellite input or terrestrial?

I've had a freeview+ box for a while now and love it. It was from asda for £40 so it isn't branded BT or anything. Think it is the Huawei 500gb one. The app for setting recordings via your phone is very useful.

Last time I checked, it was only movies. No Entertainment or sports packs.

But that was a few of yeas ago.

How is the sound of these tv box? Can it reproduce i.e. Netflix series with 5.1 ? I have the previous version (non 4k) and I can't manage to do so.

It has Dolby Atmos. I have mine connected to a Denon Atmos receiver and Get Dolby Digital + from Netflix

Its a shame it doesn't have a 1080i/2160p passthrough setting like the Virgin V6 box, that allows you to watch normal TV at 1080 (with you TV upscaling) and Netflix at 2160p. Like you say though for now best to let this run at 1080p with Netflix 4k from your TV or another device

Yeah. When we had the BT 4K channels so I had the box at 4K, I was really annoyed BT didn't add an option for this. Pretty sure the first ever Sky HD box could pass through content at native resolution over 10 years ago.

The difference between an SD channel upscaled to 4K through the BT box, over an SD channel using the TV's freeview tuner, was even worse.

so can this work with a BT TV subscription as I want BT sports. Could I just replace the Youview box they give you with this one?

Standard TV Aerial for Youview content and Ethernet for catchup

Why don't youview boxes come with a youtube player? (I know they are totally seperate but this seems like a big gap for us, the nowtv box we replaced did have youtube)

Bugger. Thanks!

If you want to use a satellite disk connection (form an old Sky install) look for a Humax HD-1000s for around £50 (single tuner, no HDD but takes a USB HD) or a the newer HD-1100s (Twin tuner, internal 500gb or 1tb HDD)

both have all catchup apps.
