Voted cold...i pay £4.99 per month from Vostel and its a monthly contract

Beware of this if your calls are with another provider - BT will add a charge if you do not place 2 calls a month using them.

bit of a daft comment! Hardly comparable considering most people need a phone connection to get broadband (required for Vostel PLUS the cost of an IP telephone).

I'm with Orange, line rental costs a bit more but Broadband is only a fiver and £70 Quidco.

Be careful with this offer and bt.
I took this offer earlier in the year but they carried on billing me for line rental every month even though I had already paid for 12 months. They also took the £120 line rental fee on three separate occasions from my bank. Three months in to the contract they owed me £350!
26 hours were spent on the phone to various bt call centres around the world before they would even acknowledge the mistake!
Eventually, they agreed to let me out of my 12 month contract as they had broken it. It then took another 3 months for me to get my money back.

cazcool's situation a one off? i am considering the year up front deal .but only cos i need the bt openzone and fon thingy as i spend a lot of time on the road ..

whoops ! sorry its caz1cool :-(

When I was in the midst of trying to get my money back etc, I read a lot of forum, web pages etc regarding other bt customers in similar positions. So sadly no, I don't think i was a one off

I would never deal with any BT company again...ever.

Avoid them like the plague.

Agreed I tried to go back to them once and they wanted over £120 to flick a switch at the exchange, crazy it's basically turning customers away. Went with Virgin in the end £24 for 30 meg broadband, free phone line and free weekend calls....result.

I have just rung Virgin and the charge me 27.99 a month for 10Mgb broadband and weekend call they offered to make it £22 if I stayed and give me weekend and evening call and 0870 and 0845. But this is still £4 more for the same service and the home hub will be useful. I Think I will change. Also all the cheaper tariffs need a BT line so to move it over will allow me to compete with cheaper tariffs I could not get before.

Never had that problem.Paid the money for the year by credit card.Cancelled the existing direct debit to cover myself. They did mess up on phone charges but because I made a complaint they sorted it out and refunded me £30 as a goodwill gesture so my rental for the year was only £90
You don't need a D/D setup for any phone charges, you can pay by c/card.

the £120 was paid by debit card, but they debited it 3 times over an 8 week period - it wasn't a direct debit payment.
When I complained they initially credited my account with £40 but then clawed it back anyway.
In the end I was just relieved to leave them! with virgin now and had no such problems

Done this for the second year with no problems
If your with BT pay up front you will save money!
Also renewed my O2 BB with 9 months free
So as good a deal as I was going to get anywhere
(2x calls can be 0800 0500 or included off peaks)
