BT Mobile - Free enhancment WiFi calling

Found 5th Apr
BT Mobile now rolling out WiFi calling to their customer base. EE have had for a while, so nice to see this very useful service on BT Mobile.
I understand that the call minutes are deducted from your allowance and the service is currently UK only.

You need to check you have a compatible device too.

As im aware, BT acquired EE
I don't think so. The system i believe just uses the internet as the first link to the mobile network, or last link for incoming calls. Works brilliantly if you are in an area with weak mobile signal
Been available on Vodafone for some time.

Maybe, but not your Wifi / router.

They shouldn't be deducting the minutes if they're routing a call through someone elses infrastructure ( i.e. your router)
It still has to route to the cellular network to connect the call at the other end
Been available about a fortnight as it popped up on my oneplus 5t along with voLTE
have this on EE other side can't hear me when l make a wifi call, ok when receiving call but not for going out.

I agree, but they're still using someone else's equipment at your end! ... but people won't question it as they're not that bright and don't see the real reason behind this service being offered i.e. the network infrastructure is pants!

You can't polish a turd, but you can put diamonds on it.

Not on 30 day sim terms. It’s a ‘PREMIUM’ product, nowt premium about blocking fare paying customers from a signal where the signal isn’t up to par for the job/contract terms.
Not before time BT, honestly how long has it taken you to implement something from your sister company offerings that is kinda essential. Heat for OP, cold ice stares for BT.

They don’t, the third party infrastructure just delivers the call to BT servers via a non mobile base station method. Base stations are just WiFi with internet connections. It does save networks money (savings mean better deals) but more importantly people can get a call/text signal where they normally can’t. I was using WiFi Calling a decade ago on Orange, early adopter here before iPhone made it ‘popular’ some of us had no choice, used to get loads of free calling bundles to other countries with Orange

Your upload speeds are low I guess and when you make the call it’s not giving you outgoing QOS, are you with EE Broadband ? I’d give them a call.

People are bright, people know the difference between no/low signal and functionality, WiFi calling is about reducing carrier costs as much as handset ability. Saving money makes a telco offer better deals, so if you can use WiFi calling use it, cost reductions equal price plan reductions/promos.

4G Volte here on EE is pathetic, people can’t hear me for breaking up, no problem with it off (4G data only option)or using WiFi Calling.

Yeah, eventually BT Mobile (maybe even EE) will have free national wificalling 01/02/03 calls from YOUR Home Hub and a BT (Openzone) WiFi hotspot - offer something no one else can offer (Openzone footprint) as a marketing ploy, it will also get people in offloading mode to save BT cash.

They may may even do a triangulation ‘free calls’ offer - the nearest three ‘home’base stations allow you ‘BT Landline’ rates/bundles. As with WiFi Calling just give BT 3-5 years to implement such basic stuff lol.
I haven't come across any other provider that deducts the time from your package minutes for WiFi calling?

That's great to know. My LG G4 not seeing WiFi calling so thinking about an upgrade. The OP5t on my shortlist, so may go for one now. Thanks.
So this is available o the newer hand sets, I've got a Sony Z3 which was on O2 and used there TuGo app for poor signal which was great at home. They cancelled it so had to leave or pay £500 for a new hand set.

I thought BT was going down this route as now I dont get a signal at work on BT lol

OK well I take that statement back; I am on Three and they do the same thing. The calls come out of your allowance. Probably put it to the back of my mind as I quite a high allowance which I never use up.
it is available on android devices purchased through BT as the software needs to be built into the android device when ordering it (hence not any random android device can use it as android don't tend to build this it into the phone during the manufacturing) and available on all iphones' as they have the function already built in.

It may work on other devices, but BT will only support devices they have provided.

Not necessarily. The S8 has this built into the phone. You're talking about the CSC which is easily flashable via Odin. My unlocked, non-branded S8 didn't have this option, once I flashed the O2 firmware with CSC the option was there. This was then enabled for non-O2 bought mobiles.

I had problems with Sky Broadband & WiFi Calling on Orange even Sky couldn’t figure out, configure QOS on the WiFi Calling in the Sky Hub ?
WiFi calling is working on my Huawei Mate 9 which is supposedly incompatible. I've been on BT Mobile since the start and always had good service.

That's just one leg of the call. Once it hits the internet and re-enters the network authentication zone it's straight back to their infrastructure like any other call you'd make over cellular.

That's like me moaning Netflix is a charged service because it uses my router.

Agreed. If anyone can find a VoIP service/app (like Skype) that lets them make unlimited calls and texts to UK landlines & mobiles, completely free of charge because it's using your own wifi, let me know.
Does not appear to be compatible with my Moto G5 either 😣

Works fine on a Nokia 5 from carphonewarehouse
I know for a fact wifi calling is available on my Pixel 2 XL (worked with my EE sim) but BT not listing it as compatible. I have activated 'wifi calling preferred' in my phone settings but doesn't seem to do anything.

This whole caveat of non-iphone devices having to be bought from BT to be compatible is BS on their part.

You can also roll it in glitter. The results can be quite startling.

They don't have to be. My Galaxy S8+ works on it right now and I bought the handset SIM-free.
If anyone gets this working on the Honor view 10, please post here:/
