BT Sport £5.99 Per Month with plusnet broadband

Found 8th Nov 2013
Hi just found this, if you have plusnet broadband you can now get BT Sport 1 2 and ESPN for £5.99 per month via your sky box and HD for an extra £1.50 per month.

To watch BT Sport in your home, you'll need your television, Sky satellite receiver box and dish and an active Sky viewing card.

Access to BT Sport via the BT Sport app and BT online player is not available.

£7.50 per month for HD is pretty decent. At that price I would not mind paying for it. Had it on Virgin for £15 but cancelled as it was just too much.. Heat added.

BT sport offerings are seriously lacking. Hopefully in a year or two they will have established more licensing agreements. For me just now it's not worth the price.

Good deal, does anyone know if the picture comes via the Skybox from the Dish or the Internet connection? My brothers BT Sport via internet has very poor picture quality. He is in a non fibre area and is on a 6mps connection. Also there is talk that his BT Sport will soon be charged. Plusnet launch there own complete TV service next year.

It reads as if it's via the sky box/dish, as you need an active card etc. I don't think you get access to the app or online player via this deal.

If you follow the link it says in huge letters "BT Sport now available from Plusnet
on the Sky Digital Satellite Platform"
This makes it half the normal price.

Spoke to Plusnet, they didnt know if its over air or via internet, 2nd person put through to said its over the internet connection on the Sky box. Will await a real world user to report back!

It's always through the dish if it's on sky, if it's through vision on infinity it's through internet, if your non infinity and have vision it's through the aerial which is why you need the viewing card

I concur with nono2522. Looking at the details in Plusnet's support pages, it gives Sky channel numbers, which also backs this up. Although Sky has an extensive on demand service, with the bulk of the library requiring download over the internet, these need to be selected via that menu/library, rather than selecting channel numbers. Some items in the on demand library can be played instantly, but again no channel number is selected, and my understanding is that these come via the dish. Having to download, even partially, before watching "live" sport, would have a major flaw I'd suggest.

The support page also supplies the following points: -
Can be cancelled any time after the initial first bill by contacting plusnet a minimum of 2 days before your bill is due. So if you've just paid your Plusnet bill, you need to pay another and then cancel after that. So in effect the minimum is probably, something close to a 2 month commitment. The opayment will be on your PlusNet bill, not Sky.
Secondly, multiroom is not supported, as you need to supply the viewing card you wish to register. I guess if you have more than one Skybox, you could register another viewing card, but it'll cost you the full amount again.

Im with Plusnet would love this, but I don't have Sky :'( ...getting Sky just for this is to expensive. So I'm having to leave a very good broadband ISP and move to BT. So bloody annoying

brilliant find op..ordered ta...sat lunchtimes ere we come ..again!

Just about to subscribe to this but as I currently use Freesat with a Humax box for my TV I will need to change to buy a Sky HD box (PlusNet supply the Sky card). Any recommendations as to a good Sky HD box to buy?

Heat from me, thank OP.

I too am on Plusnet and don't have Sky, gutted I can't be streamed.

Can confirm the deal is as stated all done in a couple of hours...for those on plusnet and sky and footie fans (like me) this is a no brainer..cheers again..well happy.

Folk without a Sky box could ring up and ask Sky if they can get this deal with a second hand box . I bought a box ,put the dish up myself and bought the SKY FTA card [ was £17.40 at the time ]. Second hand Non HD Sky boxes are dirt cheap nowadays and are a good alternative to Freview boxes .I've actually fitted 2 other boxes/dishes to neigbors houses in the street . I honestly dont know if Sky would allow you access to the BT channels without a subscription service ...................but it's worth asking .

Plusnet provide a card for free which I assume will work with my old Sky Freesat box until I get an HD box. Cannot use a recording box.

You don't need a sky subscription as long as you have an active viewing card.
Also (with bt, not sure about plusnet but would imagine it's the same) you need to confirm the details on the sky viewing card as they were when you last subscribed to sky surname and address so don't be trying to pick up a second hand viewing card!

I have looked at getting a used Sky box, and new dish from Ebay, but i am told there can be problems with Sky in getting a used box authorised, plus its all very confusing with the huge array of different boxes for sale on ebay, i know with a Sky + box and no Sky account i cannot record at all, this could be a problem as some of the Moto GP races are early morning ones. I really cant see any other option but to move to BT : (

There is talk Plusnet will offer a youview box service next year. So it's not all bad news. Afterall BT own Plusnet and they will want as many people as possible viewing their sports channels. Having to go through Sky is a bit annoying.

The other thing to consider is how much broadband usage the tv channels will gobble up. Are Plusnet saying the TV usage is not linked to your monthly broadband usage limit? 40gb? More?

Just buy a 2nd hand box with a viewing card on eBay - there are loads. You are NOT required to have an active subscription to a Sky package - just an active viewing card and the Sky equipment - which is exactly what you have for a cancelled Sky subscription (i.e. FreeSat from Sky) that can be re-sold.

You can sign up to take part in Plusnets Youview trial, if selected you get to use the box with extra channels for free for 3 months.
