Btwin Triban 3 Red road bike (with carbon forks) £299.99 instore @ Decathlon

I know this is the standard price, but these bikes have been replaced by the inferior 'White 3a' model and are now almost impossible to find - unless you go to Decathlon in Glasgow! The Glasgow store has just possibly their last delivery of Red Triban 3 bikes in a variety of sizes, but be quick, because once they're gone, they're gone!!! I just bought one, so you can't have mine

Reading store had about 10 various sizes on display.

silly comment. these models are highly sought after and now discontinued so very hard to find. At the normal price, believe me, this bike is genuine DEAL and the lucky few who are near Glasgow and can snap one up... this post will have been very useful.

2 deals posted in nearly 5 years.. thank the stars we have contributing members like you

got my dad e white version, for the money this bike is incredible

Good bike and the carbon fork model is us a much better buy. It may not be a "deal", but it's hard to argue that it is good news that a few of these are in stock!

The new model is definitely a step down and sad to see. Get this if you can HOT

You should have known that comment would put it on the hot pages.... now it will soar to a few hundred degrees.

I was guilty of voting up after seeing that comment but it was at 70-odd already when I did. It is a hot deal. Places like Decathlon (Edinburgh Bicycles is another) should be up in top degrees a lot more than they are as they make very good bikes with good components very cheap. But bike deals will only really get hot if it's a full susp from Tesco for sub £100 after they stick a half price sticker on a bike that was overpriced by a magnitude of three.

Great bike.. I own one myself.

However.. not available in popular sizes in many stores and not available online.
WILL NOT be coming back into stock as it has been replaced by the inferior white Triban 3A.

is your local store still open at this time?

It's unbelievable that this has 268 degrees heat within a matter of hours, yet the bike has been available in decathlon for a couple of years and I believe was a little bit cheaper at one point but more importantly was widely in stock.

hi mate,

i was close to buying the moser but reading your comments think il go with this, that way i can upgrade in stages instead of forking out all at once.

whats upgrades would you recommend to do on this bike? taking into consideration im new to a proper road bike

any links to parts would be most appreciated

thanks

Not much of a difference but it says on their web site: "Price in store £329.99" and it's not available to buy online.

The very fact it's no longer easily available and there doesn't seem to be any better bikes out there for the money means that availability IS a good deal to my mind.

Plenty of things on large discounts aren't good deals, while often items at a standard price can be good deals.

the main upgrade to do on this bike is the wheels

It's a very limited deal though, there can't be many of them left and it's the same price as it's always been. Granted it's discontinued and a new and inferior model has replaced but I think in order for this to be a good deal, it needs to trump what was previously offered and as said, it has always been this price.

Both are good bikes, but many don't like the Shimano 2300 shifters which operate more like Campagnolo ie thumb shifter on the hoods.

The shifters are the most expensive part to change in a groupset so make sure you are comfortable with either before buying.

Voted hot BTW

HOT! any triban 3 or 5 60cm frame in lancashire?

Hi there, completely new to bikes. Is there much between this and the current bottom end Specialise bike? Cheers

One mine in the pic, over stock I have the following

Shimano SPD clipless pedals

Charge spoon saddle (not shown in the pic as my girlfriend was trying it out today on her triban before buying the saddle)

Pro race 3 Michelin Tyres (red)

Fulcrum 7 wheels

Token Triathlon speed bars

Carbon look waterbottle cage.

All in i think i was about £150 on top of the cost of the bike. Also got 50 back from selling the wheels that came on it and another £5 from selling the flat pedals. That was enough to get me a pair of wiggle DHB shoes and a pair of gloves. Sorted

Anyone needs any help just ask.

Check out Bolton branch. I saw few 56 & 54 last week, not sure they still there as they sale the reds like hot cake!
Love my T3 it's true workhorse.

337 now. Whats for tea? Humble pie?

There's a few in the warehouse that keep coming in dribs and drabs to the stores (the stores don't know when they come as they can no longer order them in especially).
In reality the real replacement for the Triban 3 is the Triban 5a which for £120 more comes in black and has full 2013 sora groupset (still a good bike for the money imo).
I'd highly recommend anyone purchasing a Triban or B'twin bike to check out the owners forum, a google for "triban owners club" or "triban 3 owners club" should suffice.
There's a really friendly community full of knowledgeable people and advice on technical queries & upgrades!

guy in glasgow said they are sending stock from the continent to the UK as they can get it because the UK stores were unhappy about the downgrade, so they will still trickle in I guess.

Love my T3. Good luck on anyone finding one

great bike. did my research before buying and this bike had great reviews and for this price you will be pressed to find a better bike for the price. heck even similar specced branded bikes would cost £150+ more.

what wheels have you got?
looks great

I have this bike and its a cracker. anyone thinkin of buying one go for it you won't be disappointed. I have had mine for a year and love it, just changed to spd pedals as I was a bit worried about being locked in but man what a difference. halfords were doin them for £24 including cleats shimano ones.

Reading store had approx 3 57" and 5 54" frames in stock on Friday.
I bought a Triban 5 as I needed a 60" frame.I love it,it really flies.

This is definitely a deal when these are going on e-bay for (in some cases) more than £299, good post op

Can I eat fish fingers with the carbon forks?

I have this bike too! It is brilliant you can't do better for almost double the price, it will keep up with most others on sportives, my only upgrades so far are 'look' pedals, bottle cages and gatorskin tyres (the original tyres didn't offer enough grip during winter).

When you take account of inflation and the way most things are more expensive than it was a few years ago, you could see that by being the same numerical figure, it's actually cheaper relatively :).

If I had some cash and a store near me, I'd definitely be tempted - if nothing else, it looks like resale values should be good!
