Have you been stalking me
That is one colour scheme!
I've just got back from Budapest and stayed at Amber Gardenview Studios for four nights. Highly recommend staying there, it's clean, functional, private bathroom & kitchenette at an economy price and the location is fantastic. You can get cheap flights like this from EasyJet throughout the year and with Hungarian Airline Wizz Air (although their hand luggage limit is smaller)

There's food EVERYWHERE in Budapest it's hard to recommend a particular place. The best advice I can give you is that you check Google Maps on restaurants before you go in, most are fine but there are the one or two that are tourists traps, they lure you in with a set price 3 course meal but sting you heavily on the drinks. We got caught out at a place called Monarchia Restaurant which is just around the corner from Amber Gardenview read the Google reviews to see what I mean.
The only place we went to twice (purely because the range of restaurants) was Jack Doyle's Irish Pub if you go there check out their Buffalo Hot Wings and their Guinness. Loads of Kebab shops or Gyros as their called and they are cheap as chips.

Had a nightmare experience at Jack Doyle's

What happened? It was quite in our first visit, second time there was a bunch of guys on a stag but they behaved themselves. I'd imagine it could get rowdy in the evenings

Here's my TA review. They may well be ok as the reviews suggest, but you never get a 2nd chance to make a first impression, or 3rd chance in my case

Spent 4 days in Budapest and had earmarked Jack Doyles for our English breakfast. We arrived at 10am on the first morning to be told that the kitchen doesn't open until 5pm on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Fair enough, I just wish they would make it clear on TripAdvisor.
Returned at about 10.45am on Friday. The doors were open but all the chairs were on top of the tables. I went in to ask what time they opened for breakfast. 'About 11' we were told. We returned at 11.15 to be greeted by a 'closed' board blocking the entrance. I asked the girl inside how long till they opened. 'about 30 minutes' we were told this time, whilst we looked at the opening hours on the window which said 11am.
About 10 minutes later we watched a group of about 5 men walk in so we followed them in. The chairs were all still on most of the tables apart from a couple. We sat down to wait to be served. The place was freezing cold, there was no music playing or anything. It felt like we were imposing. The floors were filthy from the previous night and the staff looked put out that we were there, snatching drink menus from the table after we ordered coffees. The final straw came when another group entered and we watched as the staff huffed and puffed as they watched them walk to a table. We just got up and left. It was a complete shambles.
Message to Jack Doyles: please just sort out your opening hours so that you are open, and ready, at the advertised times. And even better, teach your staff to treat customers as guests and not like unwelcome intruders.
We tried, and failed twice to get food here. We won't be trying again.

Something worth considering is the regular local bus into the city from the airport is only a quid.

A “nightmare”...?

You're quite correct, I've dealt with Very before so yes, perhaps I'm exaggerating a tad. Ok, a very unpleasant experience. Would you like me to edit my original assessment?
Went to Budapest for Christmas markets and it didn't disappoint. Great city, really cool nightlife (ruin bars are a must see) and so easy to get around with the metro and excellent public transport. Planning to go back in the summer because it's so big, even with 3 days I feel like I only scratched the surface.
