Found 9th Aug 2014
My first deal's gone cold, so I thought maybe a candle would get hot. I'd bought one of these previously for £1.99 and thought it was a good deal for such a lovely candle. Today I was in B&M Bargains in Scarborough and they were marked on the shelf as £1. They were available in grey, brown and white. 12 cm tall.

I saw the ones in TK Maxx too and thought they were nice, but decided to pass.

I think this is a bit odd ... You wouldn't burn Jesus's head without getting stoned for it! Still I'm not religious and great price so heat added anyway

Or any other head really, deity or not. Sort of reminds me of the scene from Indiana Jones.

Buddhism isn't religion or any kind of belief system (BullShi). I am not religious either.

it is still a faith and I'm sure burning someone's faith icon could offend?! ...

In Buddhism, the head is the most important part of the body so lighting it with a candle at a dinner party will offend most people following Buddhism.

Not a Buddhist, but this is pretty offensive to those who follow Buddhism.

Buddhism is a conversation technically rather than a faith/religion/belief system, and whilst it would seem like it would be offensive to some to make an buddhist iconclastic candle, to those partaking of the conversation, it really is just another talking point from which to develop our relationships and understanding of each other and ourselves.

Buddhism is a religion and there are many buddhists all around the world. I am a buddhist and i am proud of that. So sad to see how some people think that buddhism isn't a religion.
Plz respect others religions and u dont have to be religious to do that. Thanks

*wonders how this will look after 10 hours burning*

Next we will have American Flag and Qur'an candles. At the end of the day people like candles for relaxation and serene mood lighting.
There is no point in reading too much into the design.

I agree on your point about religion, otherwise this is just a candle.

I think what Buddhism gives you is a way of accepting mortality without the fairytale of an afterlife. To me life is a holiday from death, we all must die and we all will, Buddhism allows you to accept this without deep fear. It even gives up the opportunity to confront death and be at peace with the fact, most of us are too busy and if the thought of death crosses our minds we momentarily feel the fear, we don't have to fear. Buddhism is about living and living to the full. From it comes mindfulness/meditation which the scientific community now accept as an excellent way of reducing stress and calming down your inner being. Buddhism is not about worshipping a diety, the diety in this religion is not omnipotent, not castigating our human frailties. More akin to a parent guiding us through life.

could you imagine the outcry or rioting if this was mohameds head candle.
Very stupid and insulting idea in any religion so which idiot thought this one up should have a candle whick shoved in each ear hole and lit.

On what basis are you saying that Buddhism isn't a religion? have you ever read anything about Buddhism? this is an offensive deal

Buddhists practice detachment from the material world and strive to be ego free so any true Buddhist would not find anything offensive

It's bad luck to have a Buddha head. Good luck lol

If it burns down your house, you might find yourself in real Nirvana?

I wonder if you can get a candle in the shape of Mohammed's head - that … I wonder if you can get a candle in the shape of Mohammed's head - that would get really hot

Might find yourself on youtube wearing an orange boilersuit & feeling a bit light headed.

Very offensive deal
Doesn't matter what ever the region you should not burn someone's head
Whoever do this will get the same in return.
Just think about your mom,Dad or someone closer to you, would you like to burn their head ???

Listen to yourselves! IT'S A CANDLE - GET OVER IT!

Candle of your mom. Cradle of your dad.
Do u really enjoy by watching the way that they burn?
Lool
Burned face of your mom. Wow how nice is that...... :)))

Years ago during my student days, I and a few mates used to get home from the pub, turn out the lights and light our own farts.
We used to think it was hilarious......but all our families were disgusted when they found out!
Goes to show no matter what you light up, somebody somewhere will be offended.

That's disrespectful. Some idiots should have common sense when they come up with these things.

‘If, bhikkhus, others speak in dispraise of me [the Buddha], or in dispraise of the Dhamma, or in dispraise of the Sangha, you should not give way to resentment, displeasure, or animosity against them in your heart. For if you were to become angry or upset in such a situation, you would only be creating an obstacle for yourselves[...]‘

‘And if, bhikkhus, others speak in praise of me [the Buddha], or in praise of the Dhamma, or in praise of the Sangha, you should not give way to jubilation, joy, and exultation in your heart. For if you were to become jubilant, joyful, and exultant in such a situation, you would only be creating an obstacle for yourselves (Brahmajāla-sutta (D I, 1).

As I said, a true Buddhist would not take offence at such effigies as it goes against the teachings of Buddha.

I doubt a true Buddhist would be that bothered, but I think many of us would consider it bad taste to burn the head of any religious figure as a candle. All part of the current fad for people incorporating religious symbols into their home decor. Plenty of Buddha statues in garden centres at the moment, but perhaps a Buddha head candle is a step too far - which is why they are a quid at B and M, a place that is truly the home of cheap tat.

On another point, how scary will that candle look when half the head is melted?

I'm not a Buddhist, but this thread has got me wondering what their view on this candle would be. I've found the following story on a few internet sites. Just a story obviously... but if it's good enough for a monk, it's good enough for me.

On a cold winter night, a big snow storm hit the city and the temple … On a cold winter night, a big snow storm hit the city and the temple where Dan Xia served as a Monk got snowed in. Cut off from outside traffic, the coal delivery man could not get to the Zen Monastery. Soon it ran out of heating fuel after a few days and everybody was shivering in the cold. The monks could not even cook their meals. Dan Xia began to remove the wooden Buddha Statues from the display and put them into the fireplace. "What are you doing?" the monks were shocked to see that the holy Buddha Statues were being burnt inside the fire place. "You are burning our holy religious artifacts! You are insulting the Buddha!" "Are these statues alive and do they have any Buddha nature?" asked Master Dan Xia. "Of course not," replied the monks. "They are made of wood. They cannot have Buddha Nature." "OK. Then they are just pieces of firewood and therefore can be used as heating fuel," said Master Dan Xia. "Can you pass me another piece of firewood please? I need some warmth." The next day, the snow storm had gone and Dan Xia went into town and brought back some replacement Buddha Statues. After putting them on the displays, he began to kneel down and burn incense sticks to them. "Are you worshiping firewood?" ask the monks who are confused for what he was doing. "No. I am treating these statues as holy artifacts and am honouring the Buddha." replied Dan Xia. (http://www.purifymind.com/StoryBuddhaStatue.htm)

Buddha statues are not objects of worship. An interesting Buddhist story … Buddha statues are not objects of worship. An interesting Buddhist story illustrates this point. Hundreds of years ago, a wandering Zen monk stopped at a temple for shelter. It was the middle of winter with freezing temperatures. Inside the temple, it was not much warmer than outside. The resident monks were shivering. The fire was almost out, and they had nothing more to burn. The wandering monk bowed to the wooden Buddha statue and threw it into the fire. He proclaimed, “Now it is finally good for something.” After all, it was just a statue. (http://www.thatbuddhaguy.com/BuddhaStatues.html)

It maybe a candle, however it's still disrespectful.
Those buying it because it's "Buddha" are ignorant.
How many non Christians buy a Jesus head to improve the look of their house or to give it a Feng shui effect?!!

I'm not saying that people wouldn't take it offensively. However, Buddhism is a path to enlightenment. An enlightened being, such as Buddha, surpasses all words, thoughts, imagery, emotions, material goods, etc, as they're all attachments. I'm saying that a true Buddhist would not take offence at such things as that's a manifestation of ego which is what Buddhists strive against. Buddha would not take offence at this as he was beyond the ego so anybody following the Buddhist way should also not take offence.

This has become an awesome thread. Some in the know, who are 'awakened', are trying to explain what IS to those who are not ready, just yet. I love the saying, 'life is a holiday', no wonder most fear death. It resonates with me. Namaste.

Do they have Jesus ones as well? I'd love to buy one. Lol

Shame on you op.....
