Impressive feature set for the price. Wonder what quality is like?

Same price on Amazon ATM. Nice piece of kit though.

looks like a decent feature set for the money

I have this with the pioneer speakers which retail at about £100. its a good little system. got a small to medium size lounge and its plenty loud enough and the quality is very very good for the price.

Nice bit of kit, doesn't look much different from my Yamaha rx673 performance wise. That cost me £450!!

not a bad amp for the money - it really does make me laugh though when you see bottom of the range receivers like this boasting about Ultra HD/4K support...would you really buy a £2500+ TV and feed it with a £130 receiver?:D

Still it has many of the same features as my 3 year old Onkyo, worth the money. Anyone got any idea if it includes analogue to digital upscaling? My amp doesn't do it, so I have to plug in a component cable to my TV to get a picture out of my Wii

edit: ah just noticed it's only 5.1 (should have read in the title ) so no good for me, still a good price though! The next model up is £50 more for those who are interested,

Good for those who don't have a richerSOUNDS in their area.

I'd be expecting DAB in this year, my 2010 AMP doesn't have it but you could buy them with DAB then, I just didn't bother looking

See....what not that much different really I have the RX-V671

A few newbie questions

1) If I connect to my Sky HD box via HDMI will I get 5.1 or do I need to connect via optical?
2) There is mention of iPhone compatibility, is this via a headphone lead or is there more to it?
3) Is the USB port for playing music on a USB stick/drive? Any ideas if there is a maximum drive size for this?

Thanks to the OP, voted hot. Thanks in advance for any help on the above questions

Very nice, but I wish they'd put binding posts or banana plug sockets instead of crimping terminals to connect speaker cable. It wouldn't cost any more in production terms. It means you're limited to the thickness of cabling you can use.

Also available on Amazon (Richer Sounds) for the same price.

Cold, only one optical input.....

Just kidding I've been looking for a reasonably priced receiver. Think I'll add this to my shopping cart. Thanks

1. iPhone via usb
2. I've connected my virgin box using hdmi and getting 5.1 for some channels.
3.dont know the usb max size allowed, but I suggest to put only few songs. it's taking ages to scan through the library.

hope this helps.

I have at the moment a Panasonic 1000 watt 5.1 surround sound cinema in a boix thing .

how would this and some decent speakers compare
I also have Panasonic st60 and like the viera feature

To be fair the Marantz may be great but it's not a home cinema amp so can't really compare.

hello.

bit of a noob question set.

with the HDMI inputs does this work as a passthrough type thing? can I connect xbox/bluray/digibox etc and get picture on my TV and sound through my TV speakers?

If so would all that work by just having the amp on standby rather than "ON"? its not every occasion I would want the hifi speakers on.

thank you.

But it's not an Onkyo.

Alternative to use thicker speaker cable for spring clip terminals.

Looks really tempting, wondering if its worth paying the extra for the vsx 528 as it has air play? Or just buy an apple TV?

No the amp needs to be on to pass through.

Seeing as the speakers in TVs are crap this is perfect if you dont want to spend a fortune. I have spent well over a grand on sound kit before and for the price this amp with the pioneer speakers are fantastic value.

Your sound is very good and the surround works great without too much setting up. Even watching programs which are broadcast in stereo it makes a massive difference to just using you TV speakers, your never look back.

thank you.

so with the amp on I would get sound through the TV speakers if I muted the amps audio?

I am just thinking of occasions when all I want is TV speaker volume.

Yes. They should work.

Is annoying if this one doesn't have pass through though. If you spend a bit more you will certainly get this feature

thank you.

its hard because I don't really understand this stuff and its hard to get over in words what I think I am looking for

I would like a nice amp/receiver, but not for surround etc, just to run a pair of hifi speakers...I would like to be able to connect multiple items via HDMI, effectively using the amp as a splitter box type thing. I currently use a "NEET" box to connect multiple HDMI items to one HDMI socket on the TV.

what would people recommend?

thanks for your time.
