Intel® Core™ i5-460M processor, Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium, 15.6" widescreen display, 640GB HDD, 4GB RAM, NVIDIA® GeForce™ GT425M DirectX11 graphics, 1x usb 3.0, 8 cell battery.

Seems a good deal. I missed out on the Sainsbury's deal in the Christmas sales that had it for £499 which was a billy bargain for the spec. My brother bought it at that price and he's really happy with it. I've taken the plunge so I hope it helps someone else who is looking for a budget-ish gaming laptop.

Here is the link for the previous deal hotukdeals.com/tag/dea…834

It has a helpful thread about installing the 64bit system as it initially comes with win7 32bit installed.

Can't find many laptops with similar specification for this price and I have been looking quite a lot. Here are some reviews expertreviews.co.uk/lap…624

pcadvisor.co.uk/rev…691

Also it does say limited availability so might expire soon but as a plus it does come with a 2 year warranty.

Not bad at all for a £600 config. I have been disappointed too for missing the Sainsbury's deal.

Seems it has been replaced by the P6627 though on Sainsbury's:
sainsburys.co.uk/sol…766
...which is 50 quid cheaper but drops the core i5 processor for an i3 and has slightly weaker graphics (GT420M).

For £500 this is a sweet sweet laptop – bought one a few weeks ago in fact. Not sure its worth another £100 though.

Hot for £500.....not so much for £600. No vote for me on this one

gaming laptop with non widescreen resolution?

got this beast an year ago hotukdeals.com/dea…016 still very quick and able

Looks gud might get this to play a few converted ps3 games on if it can handle it

wouldnt bother with medion products. Laptop heats up too quickly, gets very hot screen breaks really easy, have broken 2 of them. Tried to charge me £200 to fix it. And i've gone through about 4 chargers..

quite a few manufacturers underclock components to reduce heat iirc so the medion should perform better, if wanted to reduce heat could underclock yourself probably.

Same CPU, same RAM, HDD etc.

Different GPU however. The 420M is ~10% worse according to Notebookcheck.

So have I and when it had Vista it was truely awful, but been a revelation since upgrading to Win 7, but its keyboard is still very very bad (loads of bounce/spring and double keystrokes).

I got the 5920g its still going strong after two years

yawn, the ill informed acer hate police are at it again. its your loss, older ones where dogs (like all newbie companies) but my 6930g has exceeded my expectations as a heavy user up to 17 hours a day over 2 years travelling all over the UK/Europe. They are good solid laptops with a good bang for buck, not one single problem with mine ever. As an IT professional with 16 years experience i would recommend acer to family and friends and would advise taking the advice of the hate brigade with a pinch of salt, i have found many people who slate acers have never had one, they just go by outdated opinions of others.
Times change, companies output quality can change. Acer where bad, now they are good, its a fact ...like it or not.

i dont fail to realise that companies improve over time... neither do i fail to realise that a blanket statement that one machine is better than a different (better specced) machine just because it is from a different manufacturer is idiocy.

Hi - nice thought, but there are no 'real' PS3 emulators out there. I have a quad-core i7 Alienware M17xMR2 with 8GB RAM and dual video cards - and that wouldn't be able to run a PS3 emulator, let alone this. A PS3 has an 8-core Cell running at 3.2GHz. In real terms, this means that an emulator would need to run at about 150-300GHz! Emulators don't optimise video hardware, so you need to calculate about 100x the CPU speed of what you're emulating.....even now there aren't any particularly good PS2 emulators, let alone PS3.

Anyway - not a bad spec laptop, but wouldn't want to pay more than £500 for it - not voting on this one. Sorry OP.

Not a bad price, though, not a fantastic one either - if it was still £499 this would be extremely hot. Hot, though I don't expect very.

Can some tecchies explain how it compares to THIS:

saveonlaptops.co.uk/Tos…tml

I don't know anything about graphics cards, but its got a bigger HD screen, and 6GB RAM !?

Companies improve maybe, all brands are concerned by flaws and defects, that's for sure...but in the end what does make the difference is that some brands design their product to last for the period of the standard warranty and others do provide decent product crafted to last a little bit longer (certainly not Acer...).

My Acer desktop died after a year and 2 months, faulty motherboard. If only I were the only one...

SuperDan - that model has a slightly slower processor but more RAM. The graphics on the Toshiba is ranked very slightly higher on notebookcheck, but there really isn't much in it. I think the biggest difference you would notice between the two is the fact the Toshiba is bigger and has a higher resolution screen. If given the choice for the same money I'd take the Toshiba BUT you have to mess about with the cashback, plus I think if you use a credit card with saveonlaptops you have to pay 2.5% extra.

ooooooo very nice find. I'd definitely take that over the Median at £600!

Not sure theres much between the i5-460M processor of the Median and the i5-430M of the Tosh. Defo better graffix card in the Tosh though! Better screen too......and the extra ram is always nice to have.

Well I had one that completely failed after 53 weeks and Acer wanted nothing whatsoever to do with it.

People need to wake up and realise people commenting about certain brands (on the whole), be it computer makes or your mobile network, have no useful information to add. Experience with brands varies so widely (as evidenced just by our experience with acer) you should pretty much ignore what anyone says on the matter.

I would (and did) choose a similarly-specced Dell XPS15 over this:

configure.euro.dell.com/del…08a

£629 as it stands, but £598.54 delivered if you use code CP1XJZM7F932MF at the checkout.

The p6625 with i5 and 500gb hdd was £460 a few months back. The 425 is an abysmal card, it underperforms most of the more recent ATI models which can be found in alot of machines in the same price range. To be perfectly honest, i wouldnt be suprised to see a budget SB laptop completely annihilate this machine(I hope no one needs an explanation on this one). Medion make fantastic machines, don't believe the commotion, but this is by no means an adequate gaming laptop.

Then what should be the minimum required for gaming? GT435M with i5?

reports say its a nice machine although the graphics are a bit weaker - what happened to the machines with 435 card?

as for the toshiba it doesn't have usb3 and has a very springy keyboard but is probably otherwise more usable all round than this medion due to the extra screen area.

unfortunately i just cant think what a SB laptop is lol.

gigix - depends on games and res you want to play at.

Bought this from Sainsburys for £465, (£35 refund for misadvertising TV card included), but that was only with a 1year warranty. This makes it a tad warmer...

Try to look for Gateway P7811FX, had this laptop for nearly 2 years and i can still play nearly any game in hd. It has nice design aswell in my opinion. Now you can probably find it for the same price as the laptop above.

who in their right mind would buy a medion laptop for £600 ???

According to this review:
expertreviews.co.uk/lap…4/2

the screen is not great quality, which has been an issue for other otherwise very well specced Medion Akoya laptops. Personally I'd rather spend a little bit more for a decent screen. Bit of a shame, but you get what you pay for sometimes.
