Instead of searching all of the cheap laptops, for ones with any powerful graphics cards - I did it the other way around; searched for specific powerful graphics cards, and looked for the cheapest.

Most of the specs for this laptop are nothing spectacular; but it's GPU is pretty darn hot.
Normally this GPU is reserved for £700+ laptops; it scores an impressive ~11500 in 3dmark2005 !

Tech. specs can be found on the dabs page, or immediately below in midnightz post.

Thanks to sirhobo for finding an alternative supplier for ~£481:
store.cbccomputers.com/pro…asp?partno=VFY:P3560MRCL2GB

Another source @ £479.79, thanks go to pepperoni over @ MSE for this one:
saveonlaptops.co.uk/Fuj…tml

Tbh I think this is a hot product, rather than a particularly special retail offer.
Opinions welcome; and please if you're voting cold, give a reason!

A thorough review of a slightly higher spec'ed version (CPU is a little better, and battery has twice the capacity) of this laptop is available here:
notebookcheck.net/Rev…tml

Thanks to daffidhippie for pointing out the voucher (£20 off £250) and quidco cashback (4%).
If you can get the voucher to work, the deal becomes a fantastic £441.58
With just quidco cashback it's £460.75

If it was a C2D processor, I'd buy it now :P

Heat anyway, excellent value for money.

with that processor it's a bit of a joke, you cant play games with that, if you mean games as in world of warcraft and such sure, but nothing much better. T4300 is very low compared to recent processors, you would need 7000+ to play decent games imo. Still the price is good and the graphics card is decent.

For the price its good though, heat added.

As far as i'm aware, the architectural differences between the more recent Dual Core & Core 2 Duo processors do not amount to much difference in speed or power consuption.

For instance, ]notebookcheck's processor benchmark list places the T4300 (dual core, 2.1ghz) @ 80th, and the T6400 (core 2 duo, 2.0ghz) @ 81st.

Agreed, definitely the weak point.... the system would be great for those games that are GPU bound, but would struggle with CPU demanding ones.

My search continues for a semi-powerful sub-£500 gaming laptop......

The Pentium Dual-Core is just a 45nm Core 2 Duo with some cache removed. A T4300 is more or less equivalent to a 2GHz/2MB cache C2D.

Is that intended as a suggestion to an alternative? If so; wtf?!

Your 'alternative' costs £120 more, yet has a woefully inadequate graphics card (for a gaming pc) - roughly 25% the speed of the GeForce GT 240M.
The only things it has going for it are the nice 17" screen, and the tasty CPU.

Buyers Beware! I spotted this a few weeks ago, but Dabs are also selling an identical version of this laptop with a 4500m graphics card that is priced at £598.98!

So, £120 more expensive for a poorer graphics card? I think they have mixed up the descriptions of the laptops, but fair play to you and the OP if you get the GT240m delivered for the cheaper price.

If anyone takes the plunge, let us know.

Thanks for the warning; that would explain why it seemed a rather sweet deal! (though it doesn't explain the lack of temp.)

If I were actually considering buying, I think i'd take the risk - although dabs CS can be a nightmare, you'd definitely be in the right if they sent you the wrong one.

It is a Core 2 Duo processor, it's a Penryn-3M chip in fact - the same one used in the P8000 and T8000 processors with 2/3 of the cache disabled.

An 11,500 3dmark05 score isn't great and probably an overestimate, Notebookcheck lists the score with the slowest processor as 10,000 for the DDR3 GT240M which is likely to be closer than the 11,500 rating for the faster CPUs.

Still, it seems a good price for a laptop with some graphics power even if it's not going to have anyone trading in their traditional graphics card.

Good spec - it's at a similar price at cbc computers although I think they're also confused by the different Fujitsu Amilo models because they mention blu-ray. BUT blu-ray is an option on this model so if cbc are offering with blu-ray it would be a good deal

Many games have been tested with a single Core Celeron processor versus a faster dual core and the games can lose about 2 frames per minute when coupled with decent graphics,

Feel free to buy a faster CPU and far slower graphics card but this is by far the king of the sub £700 laptops. Best laptop gaming deal ever seen here I imagine.

That's a bit misleading, since World of Warcraft generally stresses the CPU much more so than the GPU.

I think this would be fine for most games. It ain't gonna run Crysis well, but who cares about that.

]This laptop ( Acer 5739G-654G32MN, T6500, GeForce GT 130M) is of similar spec, and price.

Slightly more expensive (+£30), slightly better CPU (71st vs 80th), but slightly slower GPU.(-500 3d 2005 marks)

I too am stubbornly holding onto XP for as long as possible on my gaming rig; however, DX9 is getting long in the tooth and with no hope of DX10/11 support for XP, and DX9 driver support being dropped for certain newer cards I think it is inevitable gamers will be forced to migrate to Win7 upon their next upgrade.

So, turning your negative comment around; this laptop does atleast come with Windows 7 pre-installed; no charge for shipment of a 'free upgrade' like some Vista laptops

i got this laptop hotukdeals.com/ite…640 from argos refurb on ebay. was only £450 and its a brilliant machine with a c2d processor and great graphics card.

i play fallout 3 and cod4 with a very decent fps. no doubt a pc would be better but if your just looking to play recent games without being super competitive (i.e. cod clan games) then its great

theres about 15 different models of the 6930g though so be aware of the ones with the lower end graphics cards

That's excellent news; if the one you have linked to is a good games machine, this one should be too, as the differences in spec. are minimal. (infact, benchmark-wise this one should be marginally better!)

What a bargain, just bought a laptop with a GT 230 for £550, runs mw2 on high at around 30 fps, this should do a bit more.

I also don't think the T4100 with affect it too much on gaming.

It's not even true anyway (if you're referring to graphics drivers)..

Very good price imo.

Great spec for the money, but Fujitsu are rubbish. The only two people I know who have purchased a Fujitsu machine have had it die on them in a couple of years.

Their build quality is poor, and customer service wasn't very good either. If the price was for a Samsung then I'd snap it up straight away!

What laptop and where from?

Argos supplied me last week with an Acer 6935G instead of the 6930G that was in the link. The downside is that the card is a 9600M GS with 512mb. I am still thinking whether to send back it back, but presumably all the 1GB 9600m GT's are no longer available. This laptop may be an alternative. Any advice, swap or hold?

Really good laptop. Only thing that puts me off (this laptop and many others) is the fairly low 1366x768 resolution. My 12" laptop has the same number of pixels on the screen!

Used to be you could get 1440x900 or 1680x1050 on many models - now it seems it's "720p" or "1080p", nothing in the middle to keep me happy!

voted hot, bought one, £20 off dabs voucher in the voucher section on here, 4% quidco as well.

have been hunting for a decent gaming lappy for the last month, can't believe i didn't see it before.

The 9600m GT with 1GB are GDDR2, the same as the 9600m GS 512mb. The difference wont really be that much since the GS is just a lower clocked GT.

Thanks Nymins. I am a novice in these things. I need to doublecheck when I get home, but I thought that the spec/ system check I did, said it was GDDR3 for the 4GB RAM and also on the 9600m GS card. notebookcheck indicates it could be either. Presumably if it is GDDR3 that would make the decision for me?
